Like the other reviewers, great soup, the rest depends on how much you like traditional French food.
The French Onion Soup was the best I've ever had. The onions were sweet and the flavor worked through the entire broth - not like some other soups where the only time you get an onion flavor is when you eat the onion. The cheese was creamy - it didn't create a thick film or produce strings to get caught in the throat. The bits of bread absorbed the entire flavor without getting too soggy. Again, perfection.
The place struck me as a typical neighborhood French bistro - we went during lunch and it was packed with locals. The person at the table next to us didn't even have to say anything, his usual order just showed up. Didn't notice anyone else who looked like a tourist, and our waiter didn't speak much English, although he was friendly and politely worked through our attempts to order.
My wife ordered some sort of fish dish with a creamy sauce which she didn't particularly enjoy and only finished about half of it. We're typical Americans when it comes to our food preferences, so I suppose it's a matter of how much of a palate you have for French foods as the French patrons of this place clearly enjoyed.

What a perfect night we had at Le Bistrot des Vosges! We decided to make a reservation because we'd heard the onion soup was the best in Paris. And it certainly was from our experience. But we were impressed with so much more! We were greeted by the owner Siegfrid when we arrived, and he delightfully showed us to our reserved table by a window that was so romantic. Siegfrid was one of the kindest people we met on our entire two weeks visiting France on our honeymoon. He was genuinely happy to make us and the rest of his guests feel special at the restaurant, which he runs with his wife.
The menu is extensive and has a lot of variety that's different from other places we visited. Everything is quite affordable and very, very good. We obviously both got the onion soup and enjoyed every bite of it! The onions were perfectly cooked, the broth was rich and tasty, and the flavorful cheese on top was the perfect amount. Yes, best in Paris in our opinion. We also enjoyed the duck confit and the restaurant's specialty grilled sausage with aligot. And the cheese plate we had to cap the meal was excellent as well.
The ambiance of the restaurant was very unique, too. In the end, it was the warm and kind service from Siegfrid and the high-quality food that had us smiling from ear to ear when we left. What a meal and what a night! Merci Beaucoup to Le Bistrot des Vosges for everything! We can't wait to return on our next trip to Paris! If you're in the area, you definitely want to book!

Their popular ‘plat du jour/dish of the day disappears quickly that locals ring ahead to reserve. This combined with their star entrée, onion soup, it makes a perfect Parisian meal. Another recommendation is their dessert of the day. Their fruit Tarte is divine and not too sugary that I opted to take another slice home. And their house wine Marcillac is tasty but reasonably priced. It is 30 seconds walk from the Place des Vosges, but it caters to both the tourists and the locals, which is rare in le Marais.

Went here for dinner before going to the opera at Bastille. The service was fast and professional and the food excellent -- we had speciality local sausage with Aligot (a mix of potato puree and cheese) and a regional beer, plus roast duck and rose wine. Very tasty and genuine flavour. Recommended.

The onion soup is rich and balanced. The broth is deep and flavorful—more so than the others we had in Paris. It had perfect ratios of broth, onion, bread and cheese. Often times I find the onion soups that get praise here are overloaded with cheese. We will be back every visit to Paris.
The service was excellent. I’m not sure if it was the owner who helped us, but he was so inviting, attentive and helpful.
He makes his own version of an aperol spritz with aperol that is less sweet and it was incredible.

We enjoyed a lazy, late lunch here in November. The grilled sausage made with pork from Aveyron and served with Aligot - potato puree mixed with Tome cheese, with garlic sauce on the side, was wonderful. I've tried to recreate Aligot at home, but theirs was much better! Very good regional comfort food. Attentive and friendly service. We'll be back next year.

This was most delicious and I would return the next time that I am in Paris. The Aligot as many others have noted, was delicious as was the tartar and the foie gras. The onion soup looked good but it was too warm out to get too excited about warm soup. The portions were generous. The service was ok- I speak fluent French but I think that if you didn't, you'd find communicating a bit challenging.

Reasonable gourmets will debate this but my vote is in favor of Bistrot over Les Philosophes. Their styles are different. Les P’s is more traditional continental French and Bistrot is unabashedly regional southern French a la Averyron or Dordogne. You can eat a full meal at Les P, but you should pick and choose from Bistrot‘s immense menu, AND PLAN to return for more selections. This is “bistro “ cuisine of the highest order. The terrine of ham is light on the garlic and delicate in texture. The onion soup is the richest bone broth you ever tasted and its Emmental is richer than Les P’s Cantal. Matching regional table wine for Eu 29 is a fruity and balanced winner. Decor is freshened Belle Époque, again a perfect match. Value is TOPS: full meal for two was Eu 74. Dessert of lemon lime sorbet was the best cleanser. Service was prompt and attentive without being rushed. Say a few halting words in French and you’re treated like family. Enough said?

It is a beautiful french bistro. The workers, there are really nice and they also have menus in English. Their speciality are Aveyron food which is set between Paris and the South, sorry i had to Google map cause i did not know where it was.
Well pictures will speak for itself.
French chicken was really tender, juicy and it was melting under my mouth, so smooth. It was "formidable", french fries were perfectly crispy. Dessert was ice cream Mövenpick from Swiss, best ice cream i know on Earth.
Great Time.
The beer was really nice match with the plate.

Great French onion soup beef tartar and chicken with ham and cheese. But the star of the meal is the aligot,a mashed potato cheese dish that resembles fondue. It is truly a decadently rich and delicious dish. The creme brulee was also especially good. Our smiling waiter was terrific as was the bottle of chardonnay for 33 euros. Incidentally did someone send out a memo to all French waiters that they must smile and give exceptional service to American tourists. That is what we are finding on this our sixth trip to France. They have always been nice but this time they have been over the top. Anyway do try this place. Make a reservation and you can get a lovely table by the window in the front of the restaurant.

We went here this evening for a traditional French dinner and was so delighted we chose this place. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was so warm, friendly and welcoming. No silly tourist nonsense, just efficient and kind staff who pay close attention to their job. The onion soup was superb, as was the beef tartare and the grilled sausage and aligot. Our server was excellent at his job. Don't hesitate to go here if you're looking for an unassuming, high-quality establishment! The prices are also very reasonable, which is hard to come by in this part of Paris.

We popped in here for a quick lunch and we’re extremely pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food
We received a warm welcome and we’re assigned a pleasant table by a very polite waiter.
I had the onion soup which was as good as any I’ve had. Husband had the smoked salmon pasta which was plentiful and delicious.

We stumbled upon this bistro on a rainy Sunday evening and was lucky to get a table! The restaurant was very authentically decorated and quite full of what seemed to be local patrons. We weren't very hungry, so we split an appetizer of "eggs mayonaise", which were very yummy and then I had the duck confit and my husband had the butchers cut beef. But the best part was the "aligot" (supplemental charge). It is basically mashed potatoes, but the most delicious, cheesy, starchy mashed potatoes ever eaten. Served the traditional way with garlic oil to drizzel on top, it was one of the best things I had eaten in Paris (and I ate a lot of things!). Can't wait to return the next time we are in Paris!

Living up to many positive reviews, nice and relaxing ambience, the waiter was very friendly, food quality excellent and price reasonable in Paris. I had Aveyron Jambon Cru and sausage with aligot, my family had onion soup, galettes and omelette with finishing desserts. All satisfactory, washing them down with Aveyron local beers and red wine. Great place to experience the Auvergne cuisine with a nice bistro atmosphere.

Had a lovely dinner at le bistro des vosges. The staff were excellent and food was great. I had a classic duck confit and after another Paris–Brest dessert, the waiter recommended a traditional drink made of prunes, which ended the evening with a kick.

Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
