My boyfriend and I booked a reservation at Melodie ready for when we arrived in Bordeaux in the late evening (booking is advised in most restaurants if I’m honest, they all get pretty full in the evening).
The menu is small and very affordable, but offers pure quality. To start, we had the fois gras and cucumber gazpacho - simply delicious! For main, we had the duck “shepherds pie” and duck breast. Both dishes were outstanding and left us with incredibly high expectations for the rest of our trip. We also tried a bottle of fantastic red (from local St Emillion, suggested by our waiter Lucas) and it really hit the spot!
Our two waiters, Lucas and Joey, were incredibly friendly and attentive, and they really topped off the whole experience for us.

A little gem. 20 Euros to 3 courses - eggplant caviar, salmon risotto and apple pie with caramel. All absolutely deliciously. Atmosphere and staff were all great. Tucked away on a bustling little street. Highly recommend.

May at first seem like a below average place but a menu at $20 for 3 courses of this quality deserves 5 stars. The wine list is also very reasonable.
If you are a vegetarian or even worse vegan you, however, doomed to a very poor choice.

We were quite disappointed with our meal. One dish was magret de canard and the order was for medium rare, but it was done medium and barely pink. Our waiter saw it and offered to exchange it, but the second one was the same. It was still too cooked and not very flavorful. The other main course was sirloin steak which was cooked to order, but was quite chewy. The sauces for both dishes were tasty as was the salmon tartare and fois gras we had as starters. Overall, the menu is limited and not very exciting. One dessert was ordered, crème brûlée, but the custard was quite dry and overcooked. When we requested a café lattée, we were told they did not have any milk. The waiter noticed we had left most of the duck and crème brûlée, and apologized, but nothing else was offered. Sadly, it was a very disappointing experience that we would not repeat. There are many better restaurants in Bordeaux. We were very surprised at the high rating this restaurant received, and believe it is due to the reasonable prices.

French cuisine like a melody, two very cute young waiters bring a great menu for a great price, and also adapt it according to wishes or diets. Just perfect, also all gluten free possible. Great wine and Cognac. Merci for a great evening.

We enjoyed an excellent 3 course meal at Melodie which, at 20 Euros, was very good value.
Charming, attentive staff and lovely atmosphere. Make sure you book in advance as, not surprisingly, this place is very popular.

We ate here for the second night of our long Jubilee weekend (thank you, your Majesty). We were very pleased we had booked as it was full and they kept having to turn people away.
We were impressed with the quality provided for a three course meal for €20. There were only two front of house who were very busy and on the go all the time, but they provided good, cheerful service and were very willing to break into English to bail out our mid-level French.
We had the baked cheese starter and gazpacho followed by salmon risotto and pork mignon with an excellent creme brûlée and tarte tatin to follow. Add in a kir royale and beer to start and an excellent bottle of haut medoc at €35 and the entire meal came to €88 - very hard to beat in the value stakes.

Slow service with very little attention paid to drinks - it took me quite a lot of effort to wave down the waiters every time and one of them just didn’t put our order in. Entrees were very uninspiring. Couscous was dry and a bit boring. Eggs mimosa was also dry and flavorless - needed some umami. Chicken was dry/overcooked but the sauce was delicious. The beef tartare was OK. Tarte tatin was not caramelized. Crème brûlée was the saving grace as it was delicious. Location was great in an idyllic alleyway. Lighting inside restaurant were way too bright so there was no ambience. Need to dim the lights! The price was reasonable so I’d recommend increasing it and focusing on quality of cooking and attentive service.

This little out of the way restaurant has a lovely, intimate, stone interior. They serve a 20€ lunch menu with 3 choices for appetizer, 3 choices for main, and 4 choices for dessert. They have a good list of wines, cocktails, non-alcoholic beverages, cider, and beer. What North Americans need to understand is that the food is excellent but what is advertised as the "menu" is what you get. There is no à la carte. Two of us had the heated Saint Nectaire with bacon which was very yummy and the third enjoyed a salad chevre chaud. We followed this with one beuf tartare, one fillet mingon de porc, and one saumon with risotto, all very tasty. Desserts were two tarte tatin and one crème brûlée au caramel, all delicious. If you plan to go, reservations are advised. We arrived just after 12 and secured a table but the restaurant filled quickly. Very friendly servers.

Restaurant Melodie was a choice as a first time visitor to Bordeaux based on reviews that we read ahead of time. It was highly rated for the food, affordable prices and fixed menu choices, plus it’s been operating since 1989. My husband and I both had the the butchers cut beef with boudelaise sauce and parsley potatoes, which was just so-so. As is typical in many European countries that tend to eat meat very rare, so knowing this we asked for it more medium well. It came to us very rare and tough to chew. It was an inexpensive cut of meat which added to the chewiness. Not great. We also both started with gazpacho which was nice but on the bland side of the taste buds and ended with pannacotta which was the best part of the meal. They get an A+ for atmosphere and service, however the main person in charge of seating could be friendlier. Perhaps she was not having the best of days! Overall it was just an okay eating experience. I would not recommend it as a dinner choice. There are a ton of restaurants to choose from in this wonderful city.

Want a succulent, high-class, three-course meal for 20 euros per person? A stop at Restaurant Melodie in Bordeaux is a must! We were delighted to spend an evening at this romantic restaurant in the bustling streets of downtown. The service was fantastic, the bistro was perfect, and our meal left us very satisfied.
I got the cucumber gazpacho and steak dish, and both were well presented and delicious. My wife enjoyed the fois gras (her favorite of our 2-week trip throughout France) and was also quite pleased with the salmon steak. Pair all of that with a fine bottle of Bordeaux wine and two tasty desserts and you have an amazing meal at a fraction of the price you'd pay for similar quality at other restaurants in the city.
We were treated extremely well and had a meal we'll always remember. I can't wait to go back one day. If you're in the area, book your reservation at Melodie now! I think you'll be delighted as well.

Amazing food and great atmosphere. Booked on recommendation while researching Bordeaux. Highly recommend to book. 63 euros for three courses and a bottle of wine for two people you can’t go wrong

We were hoping for a much better experience than what got. The ambience was warm and inviting but unfortunately we were not warmly received. The meal was a big disappointment. The gazpacho was bland at best. The Beef entree had nice flavor but we explained that we wanted medium and it came out very rare. The beef was extremely chewy and hard to eat. The panna cotta was too citrusy and had way too many crumbles. We really were looking forward to trying this restaurant based on reviews so we’re very disappointed.

Actually we have not noticed that there was a fixed price menu before we went there. It was some how you are dining in a uni campus. The staff was very friendly, very helpful but the quality of the food and the atmospehere was not pleasant at all. We ordered grandma’s soup and we are sure that it was ready to serve and definitely microwaved. The meat was juicy but very hard to cut. After dining there we could understand why it costs this low for a 3 set menu. Also we recommend the restaurant will reorginize its web site because the way they put the pics are far away from the truth. If you want to have a nice dineout this is definitely not the place.

Bonjour,

Came here for our anniversary dinner after a friend’s recommendation. Greeted at 7pm sharp with very friendly server in full English (no need for my average Francais!) and chose our seats. Drinks arrived swiftly but the pace for food order, eating, attention from staff was perfectly paced. We’d recommend you book ahead- the place was full within 30’ of us sitting down and several groups were being turned away
