there's a lot of things to recommend this place - but we thought that overall it promised more than it actually delivered. There was a sense that they were just trying too hard and were putting too much into each dish - far too complex. that said it seems to have a good atmosphere and welcomes families, so worth a try I think - and I ought to add we got a table at fairly late notice

Fab / great food near St. Pierre. Super starters / definitely try the Prawns starter and Mackerel with Avocado starter - the flavours !! 👍 We had veal as our main course on 2 nights and Mahi Mahi another night. The red wine superior was great at €20 / all courses with a bottle of wine is about €110. This place is packed / booking is a must! Definitely not to be missed / street tables on a pedestrian street / great indoor tables too. Lovely atmosphere.

Restaurant Loulou was just down the street from our apartment in the Saint Pierre district. We were visiting Bordeaux for a 1 week stay during an unseasonably hot week in July. A friend recommended Loulou to us, so we booked a dinner on night 2. The service was by and large the most friendly we have received in France. The passion for customer service is clear. The ambience is welcoming, with good music - not too loud, and a tasteful selection of New Orleans brass, jazz, and soul. The menu is simple, with 4 or 5 choices each of starters, main courses, and desserts. For starters, we highly recommend the prawns and tomato salad (when in season). Both were light and fresh - perfect for a hot summer day. For the main courses, we enjoyed the veal, pig cheek, and mahi dishes. When I felt like indulging myself further, I opted for an extra side (un plus) of puree potatoes. All were cooked to perfection, artfully plated, and simply delicious. We enjoyed our first experience so much, we booked another reservation for the following night. On our last day, we opted to pop in for lunch - only offered on the weekends. That evening, we had reservations at another restaurant, but the consistent service and quality food led us back for a final meal. If you find yourself in Bordeaux, you will not go wrong with a meal (or 2, or 3, or 4) at Loulou. Highly highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our visits with Nathan and Louis (who owns the joint with his sister). We look forward to our next visit!

The terrace (most of the seating) was the best part of the meal, set against the rear walls of the beautiful St. Pierre church in the late summer. But my first clue the this was not to be the best dinner in France was the pigeon roosting in the roof above, who pooped on my balding head! The menu seemed more promising than it was. We had a large group, and arrived near 7pm in late August. We were almost the first diners to arrive. But it was packed by 8pm, evidently the hour to dine in Bordeaux. We had several courses, but mainly a seafood dish and several platters of a beef in sauce, each of which was enormous when they arrived. We took much of it back to our Airbnb and ate it the next day. It was tasty in sauce but nearly raw; we sent both servings back to cook more. We are not Brits, we like rare meat, just not raw. The desserts were OK. All in all, it was a good meal, especially if you are tired of tiny servings in haute cuisine restaurants in France, but not a great one. For our first group dinner of a 10-day tour we ere hoping for something a bit more impressive.

Food was good, and serving staff friendly. We had made a reservation for a Monday evening after it had been fully booked on the Saturday. Ambience was good and waiting staff pleasant and helpful. Food was tasty, especially desserts, but quite expensive for what it was. We ate indoors but has an outdoor terrace, and Food was not very hot. I had hake which was nice but only warm on arrival and cold by the end

The food was OK but served cold. However, the most disappointing point was the service when trying to pay the bill. The young lady serving us was amazing and gets 10/10. The manger was a useless, arrogant idiot. When I asked to pay the bill, he kept stalling and talking to his friends. When I made a point that we had been waiting over 20 minutes to pay, the same manager came over and said that we were just tourists and they were busy with locals. This restaurant needs to be avoided!

Loulou’s advertises itself as a restaurant with a terrace. The terrace is in fact a smoker’s area on the sidewalk by the church across the street from the restaurant proper. We didn’t realize it was a smoker’s area. We were sat there unknowingly. The service was fast but the menu was quite limited. For a starter I had the octopus carpaccio which sat on a sauce that tasted quite disgusting. It took me several glasses of wine and water to rid myself of the awful taste. During our first course we had people smoking all round us. So we asked to change our table, and we were sat at the bar at the restaurant. As main course I had the roast veal and my wife had the hack. Nothing to write home about. We obviously skipped dessert at this awful place. Bordeaux is a beautiful city that we will definitely return to but we will never go back to Loulou’s.

We had a lovely dinner at LouLou. The cote de bueuf was perfectly cooked, and tasted great. One staff member was unlucky enough to drop a plate on the floor, spilling some food on us, but the manager solved it in a great way, and treated us to dinner. Much appreciated. Great service.

We decided to choose the beef platter which was €70 ! this was a massive mistake as the beef was inedible (tough, fatty and grisly). We complained but they were totally uninterested in our comments. The wine was nice which was the only positive. This experience tarnished an otherwise pleasant stay in Bordeaux.

Everything was absolutely lovely. Service was top and meal was one of the best of our 16 day trip. They were happy to let my kids split an adult main and had a nice vegetarian offering. We were almost too full to eat desert—-but glad we got one to share. It was delicious.

My wife and I dined here tonight, on the recommendation of our guesthouse host, and had an excellent experience. Our meals were interesting, well prepared and tasty. They have a very good selections of wines by the glass. Service was great all through. The staff was pleasant and efficient and worked well together. Prices were reasonable. I would recommend highly.

Fantastic (except slight smell of drains where we sat outside! - not the fault of the restaurant of course). We had a lovely evening with great food and plenty of life going on around us.
