Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We called in here on our way home. Had the pulled beef dirty fries and chicken wings. Both were very good! Also a good selection of beers! The music was good too! The venue seemed a little worn and needed some TLC!

Short beef rib on the bone nice it could be better with some extra bbq sauce, extra bbq sauce was £1.50. The pulled beef fries were good and a large size portion.

4 drinks for £28 and adding a sneaky £4 tip on top at the bar. Out of order that. If you like being ripped off this place is for you, if you don't don't bother

Worst staff I’ve ever come across. Stopped by for a drink with friends, never have I come across staff so arrogant, won’t be calling in again.

Great bar, staff - drinks and cocktails great, but food not good. Small menu lots not available, website says ribs but not on menu, loaded burger small, missing stuff advertised on menu and pay extra £2.50 for tiny portion of chips. Better places and value...for food nearbyMore

Refused entry in a group of five guys purely because we weren’t female. Pure sexism and not on. Furious. Not acceptable.

We booked for the Science and Industry cocktail bar upstairs at Cane and Grain. It has a very different vibe to downstairs. Cosy sophistication. Bartenders were friendly and helpful, cocktail menu was extensive and varied. Cocktails were in sections Past/Present and Future and we thoroughly...enjoyed the time travel. Standard cocktails and drinks also available.More

First visited this establishment on Friday night for a cheeky cocktail in the secret bar upstairs behind the wooden panelling - Science and Industry! Came shopping to Manchester on bank holiday Monday and nipped in originally for another drink!! Great decor (including taxidermy squirrels -...Graham, Terry, Patches and Stitches) quiet with tasteful music. Great for having a chat over cocktails! Salem who served us on Friday instantly recognised us and remembered our order we had previously ordered - Old Fashioned and a Bloody Mary (strength 3). Decided to order food this time - truffle poutine and 12 wings with bourbon gravy. The wings came with a blue cheese dip (Kyms favourite). Reasonably priced, quick service and delicious! Defiantly found our new favourite haunt and will definitely be back to try the great selection of whiskies and cocktails! Kym and Ste xMore

I have been quite reluctant to write this but its been bugging me all week. Me and my friend came here for drinks on Saturday we had a table booked in the evening. Upon greeting we was told we could not bring drinks from downstairs...(cain and grain) to upstairs which was fine so i went back downstairs to take the drinks back when a staff member at the desk at the bottom told me who ever told you that is talking rubbish and then he escorted me back upstairs with the drinks and spoke to someone then everything was fine we was seated and given menus. A male came over he was slim build and had a tash/beard we asked some advice on some of the cocktails he was very impatient gave no advice and he had a really bad attitude and told us the description is in the cocktails, my friend asked for 5mins to decide as he dosnt handle pressure like that. 5mins goes by guy comes back i order us both same cocktails. Cocktails arrive we cheers then the guy who serves us comes back with the bill on the table which we are confused as we didnt ask so i took the bill to him asked him why he got the bill his response was and i quote “im finding you both difficult to serve and quite frankly i do not like the look of you” i was in shock so i asked to see the manager straight away i told her the story she went in the back to talk to him or someone and came back out and said we have to leave as he feels uncomfortable now. Honestly never in my life have i felt so embarrassed and in shock how a premises like this can treat customers. Looking back through the reviews of this place it seems a common pattern of rude staff which is a shame as it seems a cool little place to drink. Let me know when under new management or you hire some staff who have a slight interest in the customers needs il give it another shot until then i highly advise people stay away and i do not recommend, however i do recommend cain and grain.More

Arrived for our prebooked birthday treat for my wife. We stood at the bar to ask how we get to Science and Industry, and were ignored by the bar staff while they finished their own conversation. Finally we were told to go upstairs. When we...got upstairs, we were told it was closed for a private function, he could not serve us, and to go downstairs. The man behind the door said that he'd emailed me a month ago to explain the change, but I didn't receive an email. And to further counter his email, 2 days before the date, I got an email to confirm my Science and Industry booking. Absolute shambles, shocking customer service, and it spoiled our day in Manchester. When you book the cocktail experience in a speakeasy, you don't expect to be told to sit in a normal bar! This review is from an email I received to review the booking I apparently didn't haveMore

Such lovely service! I really wish I knew the name of the lady that served us but I can’t remember! She was friendly, chatty, attentive and kind. The food was excellent! Tasty, proper dirty American food. We ate it all!

This place was super really busy on a Monday night in January, and although it's clearly aimed at a very young trendy crowd, we didn't feel unwelcome or out of place and overall I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, the service, the cleanliness in...particular- most bars in this area are know for grubby toilets and sticky floors but this one was lovely and clean, clearly they have some pride and the customers follow suit. Food coming our looked pretty nice too, we missed last orders for it but would go back for drinks and keep that in mind for future when we start eyeing up peoples burgers and fries.More

Quirky bar in Manchester’s Northern Qtr. Popped in early evening for a quick drink on the way back to the hotel. Buzzy atmosphere and a good selection of ales and cocktails.

Hi, same as the others, I don't work for Cane and Grain, I just wrote a review after I had dinner there. Try emailing the restaraunt or phoning them; you'll find their details on their website. Thanks. Charlotte
