When this restaurant opened we visited and have never used anywhere else since.
Staff and owner very pleasant and helpful.
Fresh good quality fish, cooked while you wait or you can call to order and pick up within 20 minutes.
Good bar , drinks selection.
Highly recommended

We were a group of 6 adults and 7 childrens two nights in a row having dinner and we were treated very well, especially highlighting the good attention and sympathy of the 2 girls who attended us. The fish was excellent and we were all delighted. If we ever go back to London we will repeat in this restaurant without hesitation. Greetings from Pamplona.

I arrived at 8.25pm and placed my order for a takeaway. Unfortunately, a large party of customers who were dining in had just placed their order, and it was 40 minutes (!) of waiting before my food arrived. I appreciate that all fish is freshly cooked to order. However, If only I had been at least told that I would have to wait for half an hour or more, I would then have been able to decide whether I wanted to stay or not. The staff were perfectly friendly but they seemed to work on a first come first served basis instead of taking a more flexible approach to serving takeaway customers who usually want smaller amounts faster. The fish, when I got it home was good, the batter was crisp. The chips were unfortunately only average - similar to that provided by many other fish and chip takeaway restaurants for half the price.

Tonight was the 3rd time I've purchased take away from here in the last six months. It has declined drastically in quality, although the price is the same. The waitress behind the counter was shockingly hostile and almost threw the food at me, walking off before I could say anything. The portions of cod were a lot smaller than my previous visits and tasted very bland. It appears to be a completely different management ethos/team from even three months ago. Suffice to say, a fourth visit to this establishment is not on the horizon.

Having read that this place is in the top 10 Fish & Chip restaurants in England I obviously had to try it. I've been looking for a proper wet fish chippie for ages and as it is up the road from a friend we decided to check it out.
Full of expectation and hungry we were warmly greeted by a very pleasant young Indian lady. Another waitress was perfectly pleasant too. There was a chef in the background who was not so cheery and couldn't be asked to greet us. Is he the owner??!
The menu is pretty limited really and not cheap. Must be good then eh? Well it wasn't. Having asked the chef if they did whole plaice on the bone and being grumpily told that they only did fillets I began to doubt if they did actually use fresh fish.
The best thing about our meal was the nice thin, non-greasy and crispy batter but the fish had no flavour at all (or size) I'd say it was frozen. The chips were far from brilliant. Is it that miserable people produce miserable food?
So with a bottle of wine we had yet another expensive and not very good meal out, so easy to do in London these days.
On the bill is a "Misc" which I assume is service charge. I bet the girls don't get any of that. Big rip off really.
To anyone reading this and thinking of trying it, there is a Wetherspoons just down the road where the fish & chips are half the price and a lot tastier. I thoroughly recommend everyone to go there.

Since lockdown this place has gonedown!
Chips used to be the best around, delicious, crispy and fresh - now they’re sad, soggy and mushy - for the past 4 visits and deliveries at least.
The last fish we had here didn’t have the freshness it used to and tasted old. Has it changed owner’chip’ ?
Then as lockdown went on they started charging 20p for some cheap ass vinegar sachets and today they had even taken the vinegars off the tables and only the server behind the counter is allowed to administer the vinegar! You’d think it was made of champagne!
Oh and don’t even think of asking for 1/2 peas 1/2 curry sauce. Even though they’re the same price they don’t allow you to mix them. Must be the same person who’s in charge of the vinegar stock takes!!!
Such a shame guys as I’d always recommend you and take my friends and family there but not anymore.
Stop being so tight with your acetic acid and bring back the standards you had when you initially opened and we’ll be back.

We are sorry that you feel that way and sorry for you experience. We can assure that we have not changed hands, but we can not guarantee quality of the service when you order by a delivery partners. Delivery times and conditions we have no control over. No food leaves are shop cold or soggy.
We had to move everything from the tables as we do not offer table service due to the current condition.
Vinegar is priced like that online but we alway add couple on the house.
Staff are not allowed to modify the menu without management consent.
We hope to see you instore once all this is over and can show you that we only use fresh fish and top quality nut oil to cook.

I ate here recently. Very expensive but the freshness and quality was not there.
The staff were pleasant enough but that’s the only positive, the food was dire.
The worst element of the meal was the chips. They weren’t fresh, by that I mean there is absolutely no way anyone on the premises is peeling fresh potatoes to produce those chips. Without a doubt these were processed, from a packet. They tasted disgusting and didn’t at all taste like potato. Freshly out of a packet isn’t fresh!
The batter on the cod wasn’t great either. I know the food was cooked to order but that doesn’t make it fresh.
At this price point I expect old school, ie sack of spuds that they peel to produce fresh chips and for the batter to be done on the premises. For proper old school “chippy” standard fish and chips go elsewhere. If you like processed food you can get that at half the price elsewhere.
Sorry, I don’t recommend this place.

We return here regularly as we’ve never been disappointed in the quality of the food, the staff or cleanliness. I had a beef burger and my partner cod, both with chips. Pies, sausages, saveloy etc all available. Portions are large and very tasty, no grease and cooked to order. Fully licensed bar and take away available too. Will definitely return again.

What used to be my favourite Fishie, Kerbisher and Malt, has gone and in its place I found What the Fish. And oh my God, if anything, this is better than K&M. Last time I ate at K&M, I was disappointed by the size of the fish, and today the fish was generous in size, and perfectly cooked with delightful crispy batter. Alongside it I asked for a salad, eschewing the chips in favour of something healthier. It was satisfying in every respect,, crisp salad, cherry tomatoes and thinly sliced red onion. Perfect.
But what really made it for me was Nicole the waitress. She struck exactly the right balance between being friendly and at the same time professional. Totally amenable, with a lovely sense of humour, I would come back to WTF just for her.
K&M are gone, but on the basis of my visit today, I am not sure that matters!

I have used this restaurant a few times when staying in a hotel nearby. Of the last 3 times I have been 2 of the fish have been dreadful. Cod first time and plaice today. The worst of it though is the total disinterest when the staff see an almost untouched piece of fish. I was asked today "how was it" and after saying it was bloody awful the waitress laughed and presented the bill! Avoid at all costs.

Having popped in on numerous occasions and never being questioned as to why I order the childrens cod and chips I was shocked at the staffs attitude towards myself and my partner
We ordered two Childress cod and chips and extra drinks .
The food was bought out and some of the drinks were missing so we went in to collect them.
We sat back in the seating area outside and the male member of staff ( wearing a black north face T-shirt) come out and pointed out that we had purchased childrens cod and chips and told us we couldn’t sit in the seating area and had to take it away to eat .
I am disgusted and really annoyed
I suggest you train this particular staff member on customer service skills and also his appearance as he looked untidy was very rude and abrupt.
Rip little fish shop we won’t be back !!

The staff are very cold and dispassionate. The prices are insanely inflated (border line cafe/comfort food place) for what essentially is a literal fish and chips van service and quality. The food is tasteless, lacking any sort of fragrance or flavour. Chips are soggy and lack any crispness on its surfaces. The fish is simply bland. After not finishing the meal and paying 27ÂŁ for two worst fish and chips we ever had we immediately felt very sick and nauseous. Granted we do not have any allergies, such a reaction to something as simple as fish and chips presents questions about the quality of produce used to cook this stuff. This food is dangerous and tasteless!

Have used WTF regularly particulary Acton Town but this evening was absolutely atrocious. The chips were old and dried out, the 'delicious' cod was thin and mostly batter, from time of order till delivery was 14 minutes and we live 12 minutes away, clearly not fresh. Not to be recommended unless you go to the shop personally, was this really from them? Tried complaining nobobody could understand a word I said! Ref order noC751E

Prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. Always waiting a long time. ÂŁ14 for fish & chips is ridiculous when the quality is this poor, it certainly is not fresh. Chef is very rude. Shame because the waitresses are nice.

We invite you to come and down and see our fresh fish any day.
Regarding the prices we kept it at a very competitive price as you are aware of the current economic situation with the fresh fish and also with the the increase in bill.
I am sorry regarding my chef if he was rude in any way this is not acceptable. And Regarding waiting time we only cook to order and this can take up to 20/30 at busy time.

A mixed experience for us: The cod and chips that my husband had was lovely - a hot, generous portion and plenty of chips. The cod was lovely. However when I was trying to explain my lactose intolerance the server thought that I said I could not eat 'batter' when I was saying 'butter'. As a result my choices were very restricted and I ended up having the salmon and new potatoes. To be honest the salmon portion was not massive, the potatoes not very, but the side salad was really fresh. In all honesty, they need a clear allergen menu available that the customers can read for themselves.
