We are not fans of tasting menus, and we only went to Five Fields because the head sommelier is a friend. Suffice it to say that this was one of the most memorable lunches we have ever had. It is a lovely and very comfortable...room. The service is impeccable. The food is almost too beautiful to eat, but eat we did, and it was outstanding. The amuse bouche are clever and tasty. The first course of fennel paste and poached oyster was full of unexpected horizons. The pickled carrots with the Scottish lobster tail were so tasty that we almost ignored the lobster. The crispy rabbit sausage course was spectacular, and, again, the veg was a star: charred gem lettuce may not sound exciting, but that's only because you haven't tasted it yet. The short rib was the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked and like butter. Again, the veg were outstanding: the artichoke and girolles, as well as the spinach roll, were the perfect accompaniments to the rich, luscious meat. The pre-dessert of fig leaf ice cream and caramelized almonds offered a wonderful contrast of textures-- as did many of the dishes-- and it was the perfect palate cleanser. I am not much of a dessert fan, but I could not resist the apple mousse with hazelnut ice cream, not too sweet and full of flavor. The sommelier has chosen a superb wine list, with some very good choices by the glass. This is a farm to table restaurant, and it really shows in the interesting and delicious vegetable dishes. They also source their own game, so we look forward to going back when the season starts. This chef is an artist of the first rank, who is all about freshness, flavour, texture, and beauty. There is nothing superfluous or precious here. Just impeccably sourced ingredients, ingenious recipes, and exquisitely presented food. We will definitely be going back. :More

The food is beyond amazing. Every mouthful is complex and delicious. We are not foodies but were blown away by the effortless mastery of the chefs that turned a dinner into an incredible experience. All so beautifully designed that a ten course meal feels light...and manageable. One of the best restaurants I have ever visited. What a joy to have it close by!More

A previous reviewer mentions that in his opinion, The Five Fields is better than La Dame de Pic. In my opinion-these two restaurants are very different and therefore not really comparable in terms of which is better, however, they both share impressive creativity, innovation and...exciting cuisine. Service is impeccable here-warm, friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. There is no staff/customer overt deference or obsequious haughtiness - it is a totally relaxed environment . The dining room is very pleasant with well spaced tables. Cuisine is exceptional and the lunch tasting menu a great and flavoursome journey. Our amuse bouche strawberry gazpacho was sweetly sharp and a great way to start the meal. Six delicious courses followed, fennel, lobster, rabbit, beef short rib, fig and black cherry tart with an optional cheese course. The stand out dishes for me, were the braised beef short rib with girolles, bone marrow and baby artichoke - delicious and the fig leaf ice cream and caramelised almonds. However, it must be said that I couldn’t fault any dish - everything was delicious, exciting and flavoursome. There is a very impressive wine list and our claret was excellent. This is a lovely place to lunch/dine and we will return,More

I am lucky enough to have been to The Five Fields three times now - albeit well spaced out (2017; 2019 and 2021) - and each time I have been nothing short of delighted by the quality of the cooking, presentation (dishes often served in...two parts, which is quite fun) and the innovation. The most important thing, however, is that Five Fields has not fallen into the trap of style or innovation over substance. Everything I have eaten across each of the three visits has been utterly delicious - I still think back to the poached langoustine and mushroom mousse from 2017 fondly! Its first Michelin star was long overdue and it thoroughly deserves a second. Cooking is absolutely first class and gastronomically on par with Kitchen Table; the Ledbury (RIP) and Aulis. It is much much better than La Dame de Pic! Service is very professional but maintains a sense of personality which keeps the neighbourhood vibe. Sommelier recommendations were excellent and (possibly most importantly) within my proposed budget - he in fact recommended a bottle that was marginally cheaper than my default option, which I found to be most heartening!More
