We called in on a midweek evening whilst visiting Windermere and were immediately welcomed by the staff. We were offered a choice of tables, then the lady kindly took our coats. The menus provided options for a la carte and set options, plus daily specials. We ordered 3 courses each from the different menus and could not fault anything about the food, the service or the value for money. One of the best meals we have had eating out recently and I would recommend visiting Francines to anyone!!

Following Corvid19 and the opening up a little, after lockdown we just wanted to go out, have a nice meal and try a bit of new normal. We booked at Francine's. With the hand Jell by the entrance, our table as you would expect was placed well apart from the others and we made our choice from the once use Menus, it was good to see all the staff in masks. What followed for our table of 4 was great service and super food, I had the Goat's Cheese as a starter followed by Rib-eye steak rare to medium and it was perfect, with Westmorland Suet pudding to finish, all our dishes were perfectly cooked by Graham and his team. The wine list has some really good wines at around £22 per bottle for a 2017 Chilean Reserva. We all had a fab time and Jelled on leaving, as requested by Francine. visited 9th July 2020.

We were a party of 4 for a birthday special occasion on 22nd September 2020 The food, service and ambiance was first class and all at a very reasonable cost / price. As a master chef myself my expectations and standards are extremely high and not very often met. However this dining experience blew me away best I have experienced in a very long time well done to Francine and her staff you are a professional credit to the hospitality sector and we will be back in the future

Visited Francine’s last night. We ordered the full Lobster and a steak meal. Lobster was ok.. we got half with the cheese and the other half with the garlic and herb I believe. Felt like the cheese Lobster one was just overpowered with cheese and you could hardly taste the lobster. Comparing it to like a burger and lobster, it wasn’t really on par with that and for £55, maybe expected more. The steak was cooked nicely but wasn’t really impressed by the presentation. We did turn up 30 mins late to the booking due to traffic as we were heading back from Ravenglass. They mentioned they needed the table back by 8pm which was fine. Felt as though we were getting rushed. They kept looking over to see if we were done. The food came out within 10 mins of ordering. It was my wife’s birthday so it was really nice of them to all come out singing with a sticky toffee pudding which we ordered for dessert. For Covid, they had sanitiser at the door, Salt and Pepper at the table (Not sure if they were sanitised). Nice touch as they had cutlery for Children.

We were up in Windemere between Christmas and New Year. Francines was recommended to us by our Air BnB host. The food was delicious however the service was very rushed on both evenings. They were only able to accommodate us at 8.30pm on both evenings which was fine for us (we live in Spain) however the entire service was rushed on both evenings and there was no break between courses. On the Friday by 10pm all the other guests had left and we were the only table left. We felt a bit uncomfortable because it was clear they wanted to finish up and leave so asked to take our wine away with us as we had half a bottle left due to the service being so quick. On the Saturday night it was the same. Rushed service and no break between courses. Again by 10om everyone had left. I went to the toilet and when I came back to my seat I sat on something. It was my coat. My coat had been taken from the hooks and put onto my chair which I found very rude indeed. I asked the waitress what time they closed and she responded with 'when everyone has left'. Then she was laying a table near to us and i said to her 'don't worry we will be gone soon' (we were trying to finish up our wine as quickly as we could) and she responded with a just smirky smile. We felt uncomfortable and left (rushing our wine) Probably wouldn't go back there which is a shame as the food was lovely. Tables are also far too close together.

We booked a table at Francines over 6 weeks ago for 8pm on Tuesday evening. We were texted during the day and asked to confirm out table which we did. We arrived at just after 8 to be told our table wasn’t ready and we would have to wait in the street outside. No indication was given for how long or what the process was for us being admitted. We left but the two people behind us were clearly then seated as they didn’t come out. I have never in 40 years been treated with such rudeness and unprofessionalism. Luckily our hotel found is a late table so we did get to eat. I appreciate that restaurants have been badly hit by the pandemic and are trying to manage as best they can. I also think no shows after bookings are heinous but restaurants have to meet customers half way. If you take a booking you have to honour it which means if you let the table before you make it clear when it has to be vacated and you allow sufficient time for those customers to eat. I am sure the food would have been lovely based on previous reviews but hospitality requires manners too

Staying for a week in Windermere and we were recommended to visit Francine’s. It did not disappoint! From being greeted and given our table to getting our coats returned at the end of the evening, the service was impeccable. And the food was amazing. I started with the goats cheese mushroom and then had the smoked haddock, scallops and chorizo dish which was cooked to perfection with a delicious sauce (I even asked for a spoon). My OT had the turbot which he said was lovely. So glad we visited. Would thoroughly recommend!

My wife and I visited Francine's last month during a short break in Windermere. I had mussels to start followed by a Rib Eye Steak which was cooked to perfection. My wife had the salmon. With glasses of wine to accompany the meal and a tip the whole thing came to £60 which I thought was reasonable for the quality of the food and the ingredients used to prepare the dishes. We would have returned had we stayed in the Lakes a little longer.

We booked a few weeks in advance as wanted somewhere a little more special to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary when we was visiting for the weekend. We were glad that this is where we chose to enjoy a 3 course meal. Service was great from friendly and helpful staff and we were seated on a table well away from any other diners, so it was a nice relaxed experience. All our food was lovely and we were not disappointed with our choices of goats cheese stuffed mushrooms, steak/seafood stew and sticky toffee pudding/chocolate brownie... perfect with a bottle of pink Prosecco! The tasty canapés at the start of the meal were also a nice touch and the truffles that came with our bill were absolutely gorgeous! Not your average meal so exactly what we was looking for to enjoy a special evening.

My partner and I came here recently and had the best experience ever. A total gem and truly brilliant service. I can’t fault the staff here. I have a severe allergy to Sesame seeds/oil and they were really professional throughout. Even going as far to find out whether I could have some of my partner’s food! So lovely. I had the salmon and quail eggs to start, divine. My partner had chicken liver parfait, also divine. I then had the truffle and mushroom spaghetti which was genuinely the BEST truffle spaghetti I have ever had! My partner had Pork Belly as a main and was very impressed. We both had desserts too which are made in house! Thank you for a wonderful evening. The price was surprisingly cheap too considering we had 4 alcoholic drinks, starters, mains & desserts! Less than £100 for the whole night! We were also given a complimentary amuse-bouche on arrival! Thank you. Anyone considering coming here - you would be missing out if you didn’t come by while you visit Windermere!

It was highly recommended, so we booked in advance as this was meant to be a special no expense spared birthday dinner for the missus ... couldn't wait. We arrived on time, sitted at a spacious table and our initial waiter was awesome. He took our orders, was very helpful and everything (drinks and starters) arrived on time and all was going great 👏🏿 The main course, 1/2 Lobster arrived and was okay. My fish dish wasn't cooked properly because when I mentioned there was blood in the fish, the waitress / manageress response was "They come cooked this way" 😮 No effort to ask or offer if I wanted it cooked further or have another dish! Overall, nice starter and helpful waiter but let down by quality of main course and waitress lack of customer service.

Another great meal at Francines. A step above others. Fabulous food. We ordered leek and potato soup, and scallops with black pudding to begin, followed by Dover slip sole, fondant potato, asparagus, beans and scallops for mains. Cooked to perfection and delicious. We try to book here every time we visit the Lakes (we stay at Langdale), and Francines is always top notch. Great service and friendly staff too..music pretty good too!

We were in the Lake District for our anniversary and wanted to go somewhere special for an anniversary meal. We had hoped to go to one of the restaurants in some of the local hotels but were unable to book as most places were only accepting hotel residents for dinner reservations due to the coronavirus crisis. I found this place on trip advisor and thought it would be worth a shot and I wasn’t disappointed. From the first steps in the restaurant we were greeted by friendly polite staff and taken straight to our table where a paper menu was provided along with a drinks menu. We ordered the pink Prosecco to share. I had the salmon terrine, guinea fowl for main and orange panettone for dessert. My husband had the goats cheese starter and the pig on the plate for mains. As lovely as my guinea fowl was, I tried some of the pig on a plate, which was beautifully presented, and wished I’d ordered the same. The pace of the restaurant was quite casual and laid back, we didn’t feel rushed. The only criticism I have is that it would have been nice to have a cocktail menu. Otherwise it was a great dining experience and I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a special place to celebrate.

Sister booked this as had excellent reviews. Didn’t fail to meet expectations. Menu was clearly explained and were given the specials menu too. We all had fish or steak and it was delicious. Prices were fairly reasonable- only thing I would say is the napkins were paper and not cloth - may not be a be a big thing for some people but when you’re eating a seafood shell fish dish it is messy! Overall felt safe with covid and would visit again.

We visited earlier this week and were very impressed by the food, wine and service. Best place we ate all week - definitely book ahead as capacity is reduced due to COVID rules. We had gravadlax and pig cheek to start - both excellent, followed by Pig on a plate and Dover sole special for main - the fish was cooked to perfection. We couldn’t resist the Pear Belle Helene for dessert which was a good decision as the chocolate mousse (more of a ganache) was heavenly! Highly recommended if you’re spending time in or around Windermere.
