Massively underwhelming. The restaurant was all but empty (not a great sign for a restaurant that's meant to have a great reputation) , with one (lovely but flustered) waitress working - did not see any other staff members (other reviews state that this is common,...even when there is a larger capacity) - can overlook as essentially empty. Plates and coffee mugs had muck stuck to them where the dishwasher clearly needs more salt. A minor detail, but when you pay £20 for a main meal...basic stuff. Side note: coffee- not good, could not drink (and I love good coffee). The food itself was underwhelming and the quality was poor (stringy beef - again, to reiterate, £20). The vegetables and accompanying potatoes were only just warm, but basically room temperature, meat was hot. I can't complain about the naan bread though...tasty. Dessert was deep fried samosas - again, not warm (heated in convention oven from frozen? - fresh fruit also suspiciously warmish). The space itself is a bit like a dated Indian takeaway, large open spaces and not very cosy or with very much ambiance (at least light the candle in the middle of the table!) Very clear that the bones of the dodgy pub it used to be is still underlying, just with a paint job. A shame, as when this opened and we went, our experience was great! Flavours are good, but the experience and execution was not. Pandemic times, perhaps. But I think this place has dramatically gone downhill, and i honestly wouldn't go again - sorry to say.More

Had a wonderful evening with some lovely food. What we liked was the fact that the menu offered more unusual choices, such as goat. The food was well presented and deliciously spicy without being uncomfortably hot. The street food trio starter was gorgeous and there...was plenty on each plate of food. We finished with a lovely coconut cheesecake - sublime.More

The menu here is full of Indian dishes but they all have a bit more of an upmarket twist. Every dish we had was interesting and delicious. The service was very good. We went on a Tuesday and it wasn’t very busy so it lacked...a little in the ambiance but I’m sure later in the week it would be busier. Well worth a visit.More

Pigeon, Quail and Goat all treated with brilliantly judged, delicate spicing absolutely delicious. Already planning our next visit.

We both chose the meat/fish tasting menu (there was a vegetarian option available) - the food was simply amazing, the chefs should be congratulated. And considering how many courses there were, there was a LOT of food! A few hiccups with service, we had to...ask for the wine that was supposed to accompany each course as it didn't always arrive, but the staff were polite and professional, just busy. Tables were well spaced and a lovely ambience, enhanced by an amazing pianist. A little bit of a disappointment at the end when the bill came and they had added on £10 for each tasting menu, claiming the price had gone up last week, even though it was clearly stated on the laminated menu we had been left with to read as we sampled the courses. The advertised cost was honoured. Overall, a fantastic meal, a lovely experience and I would definitely return.More

I booked breakfast/brunch by phone for 11.15a.m. on Tuesday. We have visited several times before for breakfast, lunch & dinner. It appeared closed when we arrived at 11.15a.m. I found a chef and was told we don't do breakfast any more and turned the lights...on. A waitress arrived and said the same thing, to which I said I booked three days ago, no one contacted me. "Change of management" apparently. We were then deafened by music which was eventually turned down. Our order for lunch arrived and my wife found a piece of plastic in hers. The meal was reduced as a consequence, a totally unpleasant experience for our wedding anniversary. We will not be returning. (The sign outside still advertises breakfast and it is still on their website including the breakfast menu) A great first impression for new customers.........More

I have used Ambrette many times as a takeaway, and always been impressed. Unfortunately our eating in experience was disappointing due to the hiked up cost of dishes compared to the takeaway, and the reduced size of the portions. The mushroom starter was tasty but...1 mushroom with no garnish was poor. The fish 3 ways was also tasty, but tiny portions and hardly any veg, just a few beans. My friend had the pork and was similarly unimpressed. When your paying around £20.00 for a main dish, I expected more, not to leave peckish and fill up on cake when I got home! No wonder the restaurant was half empty on a Saturday night. Such a shame, the staff were polite, but we won't be eating in again, and hope the takeaway portions don't go the same way as the eat in experience.More

I cannot find the words to describe how wonderful this restaurant it. The staff couldn’t do enough to help celebrate my Mother’s 80th birthday. Staff were very attentive and friendly and the Manager was so lovely to us. The food was, hands down, the best...I have ever tasted. Every plate we had was cleaned! An amazingly talented chef indeed. I can’t wait to go back.More

Wow, what a find! Lovely designed restaurant, friendly and helpful staff. The main event? The food was so awesome. We savoured every mouthful. Top quality and a brilliantly imagined twist to Indian and Asian cuisine. Can't wait to introduce our friends to it.
