At the Corner House, we believe in serving quality British food in relaxed surroundings. Our menu changes frequently, depending on the seasonal availability of ingredients and all dishes are made from scratch including the pasta, bread and ice creams. We also source all of our ingredients locally where possible.
I cannot praise this restaurant enough: the delicious food, the wonderful service, the extremely reasonable prices; I cannot fault a single thing. There's always a little bit of apprehension that returning to a restaurant you loved the first time won't quite live up to expectations...the second time, but The Corner House certainly did.
I like that the menu (we visited on a Sunday evening) is small. That is absolutely not a criticism, it means the chefs can take the time and care they need to produce a handful of well-thought-out, 5* dishes, rather than twice as many lacklustre ones. Less is definitely more.
Our waitress told us the owner is considering opening a third restaurant in Maidstone – that's all the information I need to begin my lobbying campaign. For the love of God, come to Maidstone!More
I came here with my husband for lunch during the Canterbury Festival, very glad that we did. The service was friendly right from the start and the food exceptional. We started with the home made pork scratchings while we were perusing the menu, then a...gorgeous celeriac soup - so good I ate really slowly just because I didn't want to finish it.
Then we shared the roast shoulder of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes. Every mouthful perfect. Finally I managed a lemon posset and he had the sticky ginger pudding - which he declared was the best he had ever had!
We then lingered over the rest of our wine. At no point were we made to feel rushed from our table, which happens far too often nowadays. We will most certainly be back.More
Once again Corner House has delivered, great meals, a lovely friendly atmosphere, attentive and caring staff and Gadd's ale. What's not to like!
We took our daughter and grandaughter for lunch, it Wass just perfect in every respect, one very minor observation, the portions are...so generous that my granddaughter was the only one of us who could manage a pudding, she pronounced the bread and butter ice-cream as yummy.More
Took my wife to the Corner House for a birthday dinner. The dinner did not disappoint in the slightest. Lovely welcome from the very pleasant staff. Both of our meals - belly pork confit and flat iron steak were beautifully cooked, well presented and delicious....Had planty of drinks, local gin, whisky, wine and parisian coffee - all good and resonably priced. Nice environment and good to watch the chef at work. Excellent.More
Knowing just how popular this place is, we reluctantly accepted a booking for 5.45pm .. much earlier than we’d ever usually eat..
We were greeted and sat by a delightful young lady who looked after us beautifully the entire evening..top marks
We had the pork...platter… which was pork scratching (amazing .. how do you get them ruler straight and perfect??) the tureen (delicious) sausage roll (just right) and the mousse-y stuff that does have a name I can’t recall but was equally delicious
We all opted for the flat iron steak which all came out in good time and as requested (medium-rare etc) with big fluffy chunky chips and a fresh crispy salad ..
Then….. THEN .. we made the best decision of the night and indulged in the sharing dessert platter and … OH MY!!!!! Admittedly I have a sweet tooth, and often have a dessert .. and these were on a different level.. if you like your puddings then you will LOVE these.. and even though the portions didn’t look huge.. even I had to admit defeat as couldn’t quite finish them..
Good value .. can certainly see why it’s so very popularMore
Food was excellent - service was great - although waitress was a bit loud! The only reason the experience didn’t get 5 star was because it is so hot in the restaurant that we were all so hot we wanted to leave ASAP to get...some cool air! We stayed in hotel for two nights and breakfast was awesome, room was good only issue again was heat in room and windows wouldn’t open. There was an air conditioning unit but was very stifling at night. In all food is excellent but need to sort out air conditioning in restaurant and be able to open windows in room.More
Delicious meal in a lovely restaurant ambiance. Couldn’t fault the food for the price. You need to book this place. We went on a Monday night and it was full. I’m sure that is partly it’s reputation but also one of the few decent places...open in Canterbury on a Monday night.More
We booked in advance as part of a 3 night stay in Canterbury. I'm glad we did as this place is very popular, and deservedly so.
Friendly staff and a cosy ambience were a good start.
Warm, home made bread, was brought to the table...to enjoy whilst perusing the menu.
We opted to share the Shoulder of Lamb, served with Dauphinoise potatoes, carrots, cabbage and cauliflower and a tasty gravy. Superb!
We had deliberately omitted starters in order to opt for desserts, and we were not going to be disappointed. I had Ginger & Apple sponge served with a salted caramel sauce and stem ginger ice cream. Quite possibly the best pud I have ever had, and that includes home made panna cotta in Venice. My wife had Maple & Pecan tart with Lavender infused chantilly cream which was also delightful.
Highly recommend this restaurant for a treat...but book in good time to avoid disappointment! You can book on lineMore
If you try booking a table on their website, it would appear that they are not taking bookings from 25 to 28 Dec, so I would guess NO. I would suggest you try to contact them rather than asking tripadvisor.
