We saw a recent write up in The Echo about how The Winston was reinventing itself and having passed a few times when passing saw the garden more popular, so thought “why not?” We ordered the steak frites and lasagna with garlic bread. The steak was perfectly cooked and very tasty, the homemade lasagna really good and the homemade garlic bread was superb - a proper ciabatta with lashings of garlic butter. The service was polite, welcoming and very efficient, the food fabulous and the value for money - I don’t think I could’ve done it at home for the price!! I can’t recommend this enough, good old fashioned quality and value. We will definitely be back and as my wife works for the NHS, the fact they accept “blue light card” even better news. Thank you to the team for a lovely dinner and we wish you the best of success - if you keep that up, you will have a little goldmine on your hands.

The place is amazing inside and outside. The selections of drinks and foods is incredible at most pubs they only have x amount of choices but the winston never lets me down as there is always something different to try out.
I have been coming here more often as staff are friendly and it doesn’t take long to wait for food or drinks
Ps they have a pool table and TVs to watch football ⚽️
High recommend checking it out I’m sure you will enjoy!

Erica the bartender and waitress and JP the chef were amazing today! We wanted to find a dog friendly pub for me and my family and we had a lovely experience here. The food was amazing and so was the service they even accommodated for our dog with doing two beef burgers patty’s for him so he could have lunch with us.
Overall had a lovely time for drinks and food.

I was looking forward to seeing how the pub has changed and was pleasantly surprised, however staff were slow and drinks are very overpriced for the demographic. Amazing job in the refurbishment. Shame the same wasn't applied to the thought of the bar

We stopped because of the location. We went back several times because of the food and service.
We had to return to try more on the menu. I had the most amazing lasagna the first night. It was really not a single serving portion, but I managed. 😉
Another night we were lucky to get Frankie as our server. She was lovely and managed to give us a few minutes for a chat in the middle of her caring for all of her tables.
Also got very good recommendations from a bartender for places we might want to go for a proper meal (They had run out of food on a Sunday night after a very popular 2-day Jamaican feast.)

Me and my partner had a disappointing service from another establishment that didn't really do anything to cater to my allergies.
We recently visited the Winston the night before with family and couldn't think of a better place for our anniversary dinner.
We were blown away with the beyond excellent service from the waitress Jaz for looking after us and always asking if all was ok and always happy to ask the chef about my allergies.
Have to say a special thanks to the chef Chad who went above an beyond to ensure the food I ordered was not cross contaminated with any of my allergens and cooked the best fish I have ever had.
And of course lastly big thanks to the owner JP who came over after hearing our feedback. Was nice to see the face of the business and I was glad that it felt like we talked to an owner that cares for his customers and not just our wallets.
We will most definitely be coming back in the near future and recommending to friends and family.

Having previously drank in the Winston after work before it’s closure earlier in the year myself and my partner visited on opening night for dinner and drinks and both couldn’t get over how great the refurb looks and how amazing the food was. We returned a few days later for dinner again during the week and this time took our baby son. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and accommodated us with a quiet corner of the restaurant while our son slept in his pram. The cocktails and mocktails are as amazing as the food, I’d recommend the “el bueno”. All in all we enjoyed two fantastic nights - a busy and fun Friday night and then a much quieter mid week family setting the second time.

I couldn’t recommend The winston enough lovely venue, clean, amazing refurb. The staff are polite, very helpful and attentive but most of all the food is fantastic! I’ve been to many restaurants in Southampton/Hampshire but this was far the best. Great presentation, good portion sizes to suit all and the taste was fantastic, not your average bland pub grub. It was delicious with a great use of flavours, my whole family really enjoyed it, something for everyone on the menu. Looking forward to my next visit!

We came for the mother's day menu and then some cocktails in the evening. Very impressed! the scallops were cooked perfectly and a generous portion at that. The mains again were cooked to perfection Beef Wellington and lemon parmasan chicken both very tasty then for dessert we switched to cocktails that were great and what a bartender! Thank you again! We will be returning:)

We were impressed with the friendly staff, delicious food and great new surroundings, including the outside play area for children. I came with my family on the second day of the grand opening weekend, obviously all teething problems had been resolved. We came back in the evening and had THE best cocktails 2 for 1, so value for money as well ! This place recommended!!

I live very close to the Winston so this is my go-to place to enjoy some food and drinks. The food is AMAZING (best halloumi fries in Southampton) and they drinks are reasonably priced, and they will always accomodate if it’s a drink that’s not on the menu. Holli, Frankie and Alex are particularly lovely and have always been accomodating and will go above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable. 11/10 recommend!!!!

I came down to The Winston for the first time on Saturday Afternoon after hearing about an all day music event that they were hosting.
I wasn't sure what I was about to walk into, but I honestly could not have been any more pleasantly surprised. The set up was extremely well organised, the music was all brilliant with a ride range of genres that made my afternoon incredibly enjoyable. I was there with my family, and honestly could not have asked for a better day out.
After speaking to a few of the acts that played, they all seemed incredibly polite, friendly, gracious, and grateful that people had come down to see them, and were a credit to The Winston.
The drinks all day were excellent, with a great selection of cocktails and beers, and the service was incredibly quick considering how busy they were, and I don't have a single bad word to say about my experience.
If The Winston keep putting on days like this, I would have no issues about making it my new local.

This is our 2nd time here since reopening and we would thoroughly recommend it, there is a range of traditional lagers and beers alongside the new additions of cocktails and even mocktails for the kids. The staff have always been friendly and helpful and with a small kids play area outside they feel welcome too. A welcome addition for the area.

In my opinion its one of the most underrated spots in Southampton.
The sunday roast is elite...and the portions are HUGE!! If your appetite isnt massive- the kids one is more than sufficient as that is also massive!
Homemade pastas (when they dont put onions in the carbonara!) is incredible, but their roasts I think is one of Soton's hidden gems.

I wish I could give separate reviews for the hotel and the pub, as there were totally different experiences. I would leave a 5 for the pub and a 1 for the hotel, so I averaged a 3 for them both.
The Bar and Grill was fantastic! The food was delicious and the beer was ice cold. We ate there for dinner the night we arrived and breakfast the next morning. Both meals were great!
Then there was the hotel. Definitely not the same experience. A huge old house converted into individual sleeping rooms. Ours had a private bath but most had to share a bath in the hall. Our room as filthy, loud and uncomfortable. The worst place we have ever stayed in. The mattress was something out of the 1950s, so thin and lumpy with the springs trying to poke through. The entire suite was disgustingly dirty. It was quite obvious that it had not been cleaned in months. Toilet was dirty and the seat was broken. Dirt and hair on the floors and shower and mold in the shower. This place needs some major work! Every room in town was booked for an event and we knew we were a stuck there. The room was affordable but not worth it. Others have posted the same complaints, a few years back, and we had hoped that the new owner would have made the appropriate corrections, but they had not.
