Visited Slug and Lettuce Southampton for drinks and food.
Ordered the chicken burger and steak.
Josh was the chef on that day and have to say the steak which was ordered rare was cooked to perfection. The chicken burger was also lovely and the chicken was moist.
Drinks as always were good and the 2-4-1 on cocktails is always a great deal.
Look forward to returning.

Came for bottemless brunch with a friend. Served by DJ Matt and food cooked by Josh. Very accommodating made me a bacon sandwich when didn’t fancy anything on the menu. Lovely staff and a great experience overall.

Bottomless brunch was great enjoyed the food a lot more than most food at bottomless brunches. We had a minor issue that the staff sorted well. But we were slightly disappointed to only have 4 drinks during the 2 hour window of bottomless brunch. As much as we appreciated it was a busy Saturday afternoon we were left with empty glasses for long periods and every other brunch I have been to we have had a lot more drinks and therefore expected more than 4 drinks for a 2 hour bottomless brunch. This made it less value for money.

The slug and lettuce, a place when young adults come in their masses to have their cocktails then head off into town to further their enjoyments; however, this is also a well respected establishment for all.
Myself and my partner came here and I have to say what an awful experience!
Firstly we had booked and paid a £10 non-refundable deposit for a table (wish I hadn’t now) this deposit can then be used towards drinks at the bar.
As we were being told all of the new safety measures surrounding COVID we felt quite confident that our stay would be good.
We were shoved in the worst area imaginable, right by the toilets and in line with the one way system. To make matters worse, from my perspective all I could see was a dimly lit bar that was shut and it looked like it was being renovated.
We ordered our drinks and dinner and the cocktail I had ordered was the pink gin fizz but it mainly tasted like gone off Prosecco!! When the food came out it was another disappointment, my partner ordered smothered chicken and on his plate which resembled burnt gunk at the bottom of my oven was in actual fact his grilled tomato!! I ordered the smothered chicken burger and instead of just one sauce in the burger I had 3 which meant that as soon as I bit into it it just fell apart, another problem was that my chicken was hard.
And before I get comments saying “did you speak to the manager”, I didn’t because if it was the same as the person on the door then they were very unapproachable.

We have been inundated with bookings since reopening and unfortunately due to distancing measures, we have lost half of our normal tables.

I am a person who has worked in hospitality and am not usually in the habit of complaining, however I need to say something.
A friend and I decided to go out for what was potentially our last meal for the foreseeable future as Covid-19 appears to shut down everyone and everything. We decided on slug and lettuce due to their Monday discount, 50% of all food and drink (awesome discount btw).
We had some great cocktails to start and I went on to order a rare steak with chips and calamari toppers where as my friend opted for a selection of starters.
Food arrived very promptly.
I'm sorry to say it was honestly the worst meal I've had in my life.
My what should be rare steak came out Medium, not even medium rare, not only that, freezing. Chips were stale, dry and cold. It came with cold bland mushrooms and a cold grilled tomato. The steak hadn't even been seasoned, it was honestly the worst steak i have ever had.
No steak knife either!
The starters were okay, bland but at least they were warm!
The restraunt wasn't busy and I couldn't actually see anyone else eating, so i think stern words are to be had with the chef who thought it was okay to send food out like that!
Given the current climate, stress and the fact it was a cheap meal we decided not to complain, however after sleeping on it, i feel its worth mentioning!
Apologies guys but you really cocked this one up!

Went with my partner last night with a table reserved in the dinning area but were sat in the noisy bar area. We were initially sat on a high stool table, which considering my partner has a broken ankle we thought was a bit comical, and were able to move table when requested. However the new table was next to a group of screaming adults who would consistently vape inside in front of staff, yet at no point were told not to.
Went to order our meals online, but most of what we wanted was out of stock. Sent my partner up to bar to order hoping there was some kind of mistake, no mistake, most of what we wanted was indeed out of stock. Order two starters (wings & beef tacos), two mains (chicken burger & beef burger) and two drinks (a beer & a Fanta). After 20 minutes the mains and starters all came out together, so we obviously sent the mains back so that we could enjoy our starter properly.
The mains then came out again 20 minutes later, with the waitress having to use tissues to carry the burning hot plates. As someone who works as a server I know this means our meals were simply put in a hot hold for that period of time. I asked the waitress if these had been freshly cooked or if they were the same plates from a hot hold. She awkwardly said they were the same ones from a hot hold. When asked why, she said it was just standard practice in their restaurant to store full meals in the hot hold if their staff put it through wrong on the tills and walked off before I could say anything else.
The chips were soggy and cold, the burger buns rock hard, the sauce inside the burgers completely evaporated & the bacon resembled cardboard- devoid of any form of moisture.
Complete disappointment and waste of our evening- stay well away unless you just want to drink cocktails and smoke electronic cigarettes inside a building.

I went for quick fish & chips perhaps on Saturday, can't remember, but it was memorable enough to make time today and write about it. Like the review before me, I worked in hospitality and it's shocking where or who is training the staff. I know people come here for cocktails but because I was in hurry I ordered cider and my friend ordered pint. I got served fish and chip in few minutes, waiter didn't even ask who is it for and put it at front of my 'guy' friend. When I mentioned no drinks yet, no apology. he didn't ask if I need anything else, like for example salt as chips didn't have any on it and mayo in little plastic bag...
Another thing is there aren't any prices on the menu, which is very disappointing as they secretly increase them but you don't know until you order :( I went there for drinks before and as soon as staff who works there but not on the shift, they got drinks way before me.

Awful can only describe our experience.
Working in hospitality I understand that current circumstances aren’t great and I have empathy for the industry, but this does not warrant the service we received on our anniversary.
Myself and my partner use slug and lettuce as a go to for food and drink when we travel away, we’ve been to the chain all across the country and understand what to expect. On this occasion it was a disaster from the moment we walked in.
We booked a table for two for our anniversary, we first got sat on a high table right next to the bar, we didn’t care too much but considering there was multiple tables elsewhere being sat right next to the bar with people walking past us every minute was not ideal. I then proceeded to order food, three of the starters were not available so we settled on chicken wings and tacos as a starter and buttermilk chicken burger and bacon cheese burger for mains. 20 minutes later all our food comes out at once, we said to the waiter that we didn’t want the main straight away which she was fine about and took it back. We ate the starters which were ok, 20 minutes after they asked us if we wanted the mains to which we said yes at this time they brought us back the original food which has been sat on a hot hold for the last 30 or so minutes, we asked the waiter if this was the case to which she confirmed that ‘this is just what the chefs do’ and walked off. the burger bun was crunchy and the actual burger was like eating rubber, the bacon had turned horrible and was inedible and the fries had turned soggy. At this stage before I let the place put a dampener on the evening I decided it was best to leave and head out somewhere else to drink.

Visited this evening and were very disappointed. Ordered on the app, both starters and mains, all of which were brought to the table at the same time. Steaks were not cooked as requested. Two were rare when ordered as medium and one was over cooked for a medium rare. Sweet potato fries (usually really great) were soggy and paying £1.50 for two tablespoons of peppercorn sauce was ridiculous. When questioned a second portion was provided, but the sauces was cold. My daughter’s blue steak was cold in the centre and even after requesting it to be cooked to rare, was still cold. (Was refunded). We have frequented here many times in the past but to be honest will not eat here again.

We waited a very long time for what turned out to be a remarkably mediocre meal. Two of the four meals were incomplete and incorrect and when we drew this to the attention of the staff, they truly could have not been less interested or less prepared to put the problem right. We spoke the the manager (Matt?) who offered a vague and utterly implausible explanation which was basically a defence of the ineptitude of the staff and justification of the errors and omissions as being some sort of mysterious ‘miscommunication’.
Avoid this place at all costs unless you want to be blamed for receiving and incomplete dried up meal after a monumental wait.

We went to the slug and lettuce Southampton fir a bottomless brunch as a birthday celebration everyone there was friendly and provided great customer service. Roberta served our drinks and was very attentive. We were topped up whenever we finished a drink and she was engaging while keeping an eye on other guests. The food was really nice and I would definitely go again. We had a fantastic afternoon. Thank you Roberta! Xx

My daughter treated me to a brunch where the food was delicious and the service by DJ Matt & his team was great, so much so that we arrived at 1pm & didn’t leave until 6pm. The afternoon tea also looked great. Will definitely be back.

Very warm comfortable seating and quick friendly service. I ordered green Thai curry which was delicious with lots of fresh chicken breast and rice well cooked. For dessert I chose Magnum ice cream balls which was presented with very pretty edible flowers. My friends also enjoyed their respective meals.
The Waitress service was outstanding. Finally I would add that the meals and accompanying drinks we ordered were excellent value.

Table was booked between 5-7pm, so an early pre theatre dinner.
Ordering of food was done via both the app and at the bar.
We asked for cheese to be removed from 2 of the burgers and went through it with the member of staff a number of times.
Even though it was very quiet we had to wait approx 1 hour for food.
When it arrived one chicken burger had cheese in it, another chicken burger wasn’t cooked and had to be returned, the chips were very over cooked and dry.
The beef burger like leather.
Everything took so long and made us very close to missing the start of the theatre.
We will not be returning.

I’d like to clarify that our burgers are pre-cooked to ensure they’re fully cooked when served, but I can appreciate that this didn’t meet your expectations. Although it may have appeared quiet on the floor, the kitchen can sometimes get backed up, and it seems this was the case during your visit, leading to the delays.
We take special requests, such as removing cheese, very seriously, and I’m sorry that your order wasn’t correct. I’ve passed your comments on to the kitchen team to make sure they double-check such requests in the future. I also want to apologise for the quality of the food you received—the chicken burger not being the best quality and the overcooked chips are not up to our usual standards.
I hope you understand that we strive to provide better experiences for all our guests, and I regret that we fell short this time. I can only hope you might reconsider and give us another chance in the future.
