The food was as you'd expect from a 2AA Rosette and Michelin Plate restaurant - fantastic. The atmosphere was good, with the music and table arrangement creating a perfect balance to have a quiet meal whilst not hearing any other conversations (unless you really want to). The service was the best part though; barely noticeable except the odd moment of saying 'oh wow', 'great', and other such things. We took advantage of the three-course deal but looking at the standard prices of the dishes, and having tried the food, you can't say they are overpriced, especially given the service and ambience. 100% would recommend.

Dined this week at this lovely restaurant. The food was very good, the COVID precautions excellent and the service attentive and professional. We all enjoyed all 3 courses and thought the standard of cooking was very good. I don't think it would eat too much into your profit margins if you were to add some vegetables to some of the dishes? I had the fish special of the day, which was very special, but came with just lovely new potatoes. From memory, I don't believe there was even an option to add vegetables as a side dish? Bit of an oversight, but didn't detract from the dish. BUT, I do hate the 10% discretionary service charge? This always says one of two things to me, either a) you choose not to pay your staff the going wage or b) you have little confidence in your training and service standards. As it happens, we were happy to pay the 10%, but don't put it on the bill and call it 'discretionary' as we all know in reality it's not. Very few people will question or challenge this poor practice when in the restaurant and faced with the waiter who you would be taking the money directly from. If you want more money from people, just add another 5% to your prices and trust in the staff you have. As a result I have taken one star off your review. I also don't like the 'dishonest' online menu where you have the prices of your dishes but no mention of the 10% 'discretionary' service charge on there. I don't think this is very open and fair I'm afraid. That said it was a good evening, and would recommend a visit. But more so now people can read my review and when setting their budget can add another 10% minimum to what they believe they will be paying.

For a birthday treat we had heard good reports of the Arbor, so booked a set menu for Sunday lunch, The service as soon as we entered the foyer was second to none. The waiters/waitresses never hurried us, explained all the finer points on the menu. We were offered water as soon as we arrived, which continued to flow. The food was exceptional , incredible flavours, We had a real good choice of dishes on the set menu, all locally produced too. The chef needs to be congratulated ! Also I had an unexpected treat from the chef as it was a special birthday, thankyou so much

Very disappointing afternoon tea experience at the Arbor yesterday. We opted for the champagne afternoon tea but when the champagne arrived it was both warm and a little flat. We mentioned this to the waiter and he quickly responded, (without surprise) that he would take it away and replace it with some from the back of the fridge. The sandwiches arrived on an unappealing platter devoid of garnish or any colour with disappointing fillings of cheese, ham, egg mayonnaise (no cress) and most surprisingly tinned tuna! The smoked salmon mentioned in the menu online was nowhere to be seen. These tiny four triangles amounted to two small pieces of bread each. The waiter returned when we were halfway through our sandwiches to say that we would have to wait for the champagne as they’d put it on ice and it would be at least another 10 minutes so we decided to pass on the champagne, the moment was gone and we would have long finished the small savoury part of our tea before it was available. Instead we moved on to our teas which were fine but nothing remarkable, all used tea bags rather than leaves and the choices were a little odd ‘peppermint and spearmint ‘mingled’ with red fruit’ sounded particularly unappealing. The sweet element arrived and again was disappointing, the scones were good but they were plain or chocolate chip and the latter didn’t really seem to go with jam. The other sweets were coffee doughnuts (not to the taste of three out of four of us but my husband benefited from this!), an orange cheesecake which was quite bitter and mini creme brûlées which frankly just tasted odd, none of us enjoyed them. All in all just a disappointing experience and I definitely wouldn’t go back or recommend. Whilst the service was polite and friendly (and they were very apologetic about the champagne), no one actually asked us about our experience so we didn’t feedback. It’s a real shame, particularly about the sandwiches because it’s not hard to get that right and for the price we paid we expected more.

Having heard positive reviews, we visited this restaurant expecting good things, but were a little disappointed as I don’t believe it quite lives up to its ratings. Positives: Service - the staff are polite, attentive, and helpful. Taste - the food in general tastes ok and is reasonably well cooked. I’d describe it as solid popular restaurant quality but not on par with similar priced restaurants in the area, like The Pig or Neo. Negatives: Price/value/quality - given where the menu and prices pitches this restaurant, sadly the menu quality vs the portion sizes are rather cheeky. Scallop starter which was £10.50, was tiny. One would expect 3 or 4 large scallops with garnish and maybe something to contrast the taste like black pudding or chorizo. It was very ordinary tasting and hugely overpriced. You wouldn’t mind if it was a taste explosion but it wasn’t. The lamb rump at £23 to be quite frank was a p*ss take. 2 small slices of rump with barely any additional garnish or vegetables (just a very small bed of creamed potato with a token addition of mushrooms). Rib eye steak again for £26 was very average, poorly presented, and equivalent to something I’d expect at a pub not a “fine dining” restaurant. (Note: I was served 5 pieces of delicious locally sourced lamb rump with plenty of veg, at the Pig on Beach the day before, for £21. Fine dining and vfm.) Do note that I accept some fine dining locations are less about portion sizes, but it’s important to remember this isn’t Gordon Ramsey, or Raymond Leblanc, this is a local restaurant trying to make a name. I don’t expect plates piled high, but I do expect the quality to match the price. Based upon the gastronomic quality of the food, the portion sizes are just too small. Needless to say, the Arbor needs to try a lot harder and value for money needs a huge improvement. Won’t be visiting again until such point it either changes hands or I hear improvements have occurred with regard to their menu and portion sizes.

Thanks for your review. The 2 restaurants you mention above are 1 rosette or no rosette restaurants. We are a 2 rosette restaurant and we hold a Michelin plate. No we don't have Gordon Ramsey or Raymond Blanc working in the kitchen but we do have a local chap Andy Hilton who has been with us for 10 years now and has earned his stripes. Pricing takes a lot of things into consideration for us, we look at the providence of everything we buy and the carbon footprint but never compromise on quality. We are also an independent and try to purchase from independent suppliers as well which means farming on a small scale pushes their prices up. We also have to take into consideration the skill that is required to cook the dish and the hours that these skilled team put in in order to make everything fresh to your plate. I hear what you are saying about portion size and this is not something that gets mentioned or raised a lot with us so I'm going to have to put that down to personal preference. No plans for the restaurant to change hands at the moment so we may not see you again. Thanks for sharing your feedback, and if you do feel like giving us another go we'll always be happy to welcome you back.

Prior to Valentine's day, we received an offer DIRECTLY from the Arbor Restaurant telling us about an offer of 3 courses for £25 per person. We decided to book a table and even e-mailed your restaurant to confirm our booking and the offer; your receptionist confirmed our offer of 3 courses for £25 and we have e-mail correspondence to prove this. We have also paid a deposit of £20 under those terms. Unfortunately, upon arriving at the restaurant and being sat down we were only then informed that this offer had been rescinded; I should add that we had to query this ourselves and this information wasn’t volunteered by your staff. This was not only embarrassing for us to discuss in front of other diners but highly embarrassing and unprofessional on your part as you did not honour what you promised your customers who only booked under the false impression of the deal, and even paid a deposit. I wish we walked out but it was Valentine's day, we were hungry and at this point, other diners were staring. Now on to the food. Let me begin by saying that we have dined in fine dining restaurants before in London, Copenhagen, Paris, Vienna, Krakow, Bali etc. before the management responds by telling me that such small portions are typical of fine dining. We had a starter, main, desert and left the restaurant hungry. We actually stopped off at our local co-op on the way home to pick up a pizza. Please see attached the photo of our main dish. The meat was the size of my finger. For the prices we paid, it was unacceptable. Though nicely presented, it was bland. I would highly recommend you go elsewhere to spend your money.

Saddened to be writing a review which isn’t as favourable as past visits but believe feedback is how things improve. We visited the Arbor restaurant on Sunday 13 September for an afternoon tea for our anniversary. I was excited as we had been the previous year for an afternoon tea (as well as several dinners and tasting menu evenings) and had an amazing experience. This time it felt like a different place. I didn’t expect to go home smelling like a brewery but the poor girl serving us knocked a full glass of champagne over me, which was of course an accident, but soaked not just me in a new dress but my iPhone. I had to ask to move tables as wasps were immediately attracted to the spillage which was all over the table and floor as we were seated outside. The staff were all very friendly and polite but the service was slow and felt non attentive, especially when we were ready to leave and trying to pay the bill. I was also surprised to have been charged for child portions of ice cream we had ordered given the ‘disrupted’ service we had received. All in all not the relaxing, luxurious experience we were hoping from past visits and given this was our first outing to a restaurant since lockdown I guess we felt a little let down which is a shame. 😞

Sorry to hear about your disappointment. I believe the girl who spilt the champagne was a new starter to the team. So sorry that this dampened your experience. It is tricky with a spillage outside as the tables are wooden and the terrace is stone so not easy to "mop up" hence the wasps. Reopening after COVID has been super challenging for the team as not only had they not worked for 4 months but when we opened Arbor we have been busier than anticipated and unable to find the extra staff we needed for these few months. Guests expectations have been super high as well which is completely understandable as we all spent lockdown dreaming of a day we wouldn't have to make our own meal! I do hope this goes some way to explaining and apologising and I do hope you will give us another go again soon, especially as our business seems to be settling back down.

We'd heard good things about The Arbour restaurant at The Green House from a few friends and colleagues so thought we'd try it out to celebrate our 5th anniversary, and we were absolutely blown away. The online booking process was quick and easy, and my partner requested roses for our table, which was a lovely romantic surprise. The restaurant itself is elegant and intimate so it was the perfect setting for our anniversary meal, and the food was out of this world. Seasonal ingredients, locally sourced and perfectly cooked, and served by knowledgeable and attentive waiting staff. As I have both gluten and dairy intolerances, we often find eating out can be a struggle, but every menu item was clearly marked with the allergens, including those that could be optionally adapted, making the whole experience effortless, reassuring and an utter joy. Thank you to all the staff at The Arbour for creating such a perfect evening.

The meal and experience here was really below the standard I was expecting. The starters were generally tasty, but we were made to feel a little rushed and - maybe because we had the set menu - we actually all felt like we were treated a little differently in terms of service. Almost like an inconvenience. The mains were where the food issues started. My Dad ordered the Burger and, given than he cannot have dairy, requested the 'dfo' (dairy free option) from the menu. As it turns out, this option is just the same meal minus the bun and the cheese. On his plate was a single burger patty placed on some lettuce and a side of chips. It looked absolutely ridiculous and was not a full meal. My Mum selected the Turbot and immediately spotted something wrong. It was fleshy and seemed under cooked in parts. When we alerted the waiter they rushed it away and then came back and said that it was cooked (quite rudely, almost as if we had offended the chef), but the fleshy part was actually the 'belly' of the fish. In all our collective meals in all our lives, none of use had ever had belly on a fillet. It was inedible and clearly not supposed to be served, but there was no apology. The original portion was replaced with the smallest piece of fish I've ever seen on main meal.I thought they might apologise at the end, but in all honesty, they just made us feel bad for pointing it out at all. My partners vegan option was the star of the show, but my fish and chips were completely forgettable, with soggy batter, average chips that were more like wedges (far from being 'addictive' as the menu states) and a side of lukewarm garden peas. We shared some desserts that were quite good but we only had them because they were included in the set menu - we felt rushed and the blunt service really made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived. A real shame because my parents have had good meals here before (not set menu) and we were expecting much, much more.

Well, having written a review about a week ago, (an understanding the governments steps to prevent covid19), I have still not personally rceived a message from management with regards to our meal out. The waiting staff were fantastic, but the food wasnt. Given that this is advertised as a 4* establishment, then you really shouldn't expext paxo stuffing to be used to fill up the plate. I used to work in a kitchen for Center Parcs, and frankly, what should have been a happy birthday meal was dull, tasteless, and I really regret taking my friend there as a birthday treat. I'd already emailed the manager, and had no response, so I',m more than happy to say to all potential clientele that this establishment should be avoided. Having said that, the service from the staff was fantastic - it really was the food that let it down. I sent of a similar message about a week ago, and have still had no email back from management. If management is so bad, I'd happily take that job over as clearly they don't care. I'd reccommend going elsewhere, as anywhere that advertises themselves as one of the best places to dine, is just a charade.

Thanks for the review. Yes that is correct, you wrote this a few days into lockdown and indeed again you dined with us a week before lockdown. You might remember this was an extremely confusing and upsetting time for everyone especially those in hospitality as we did not yet know about the fantastic Furlough scheme. As a hospitality colleague, I'm sure you can understand that my priorities at this time were with the future of the Green House and Arbor restaurant and the welfare of my team, some of whom felt they were looking at being homeless. Yes that is correct, I did not prioritise emails. We were working on shutting the hotel down safely and ensuring that relevant safety precautions were put in place as well as ensuring that all future guests were addressed and reassured also. As we have now opened I have taken a look at the 1000's of emails and I can't seem to find any emails of complaint. If you feel you would like to send it again to me then please do as we are now open again as normal and I can take a look. If you would also like to send your CV you can send it to the same email oosullivan@thegreenhousehotel.com but we are not hiring at the moment as we are post COVID and my current team take priority for any available shifts.

We visited the Arbor using a voucher from buyagift.com and the reception, service and food could not have been better. Starting with Champagne, flavoured Cider for me, a lovely selection of sandwiches was served along with cakes and scones which were freshly made along with jam, curd and a huge pot of cream. We finished with lattes and then retired to the lounge and had two more lattes. It was all included with the voucher. The lunch and dinner menus looked lovely so we will be back.

Booked because ‘it is the best in Bournemouth’ but certainly didn’t live up to this- we paid through the nose for a truly awful supper ! Pleasant enough room but for a fine dining experience things should have been spot on - the windows were dirty and the floor needs a scrub. Confused menu and the food was really not good at all . The cook ( I can’t use the word chef in this case)has no finesse with ingredients and some terrible pairing ideas. Bread thrown on a slate accompanied by awful paprika butter ... why, why, why ? Poor crab drowned in Hellman’s mayo with added oil poured over the top with an overcooked mouthful of a fritter thrown on top. Hake Kiev ( I should have been warned ) no garlic butter - filled with badly chopped capers and on a slick of truffle ( yes I know) mushy peas with hard confit potatoes . Wine list really shabby. Couldn’t face dessert. Very poor show . This place needs a decent maitre or chef patron to pull it into shape. My advice ? Don’t go

Thanks Claire for your review. I think firstly I need to address the fact that you refer to us as a "fine dining" restaurant. This we are not. Others on here may have, but we don't consider ourselves fine dining. In fact our website states "serious food in a chilled out setting". The windows could do with a coat of paint for sure and we did have this planned-in pre-covid, but as you can imagine, all updates and upgrades have been halted for a while. We are running on a reduced menu but our wine list is short, not extensive like fine dining establishments. Maitre'd or chef patron... this is not what we offer and not who we are. If you are looking for simple food, locally sourced from sustainable and responsible farmers cooked well then you've come to the right place. If you are looking for tablecloths, endless wine lists, maitre'd and chef patrons then we are certainly not for you. Sorry that you didn't enjoy your experience with us.

Had a meal at Arbor Restaurant with my partner Monday night. Her starter of soy glazed chicken thigh was extremely salty. I had the pork for main which has to be one of the tasteless pieces of pork I have ever had we mentioned this to the waiter who just dismissed the feedback. The sweet was still frozen from the freezer. So I would avoid if you can. Also the local fish was stone bass which isn't caught in our local waters

Thanks for sharing on here. Its just a shame you didn't mention about the saltiness to the waiter when he checked back with you. He also noted that as there was none of the pork left, the comment was probably not founded as you ate it all. Also we served 8 other guests the pork on that very night and we received some excellent feedback so perhaps this was a matter of taste? The sweet you chose was the Iced Parfait (Is it not clear from the name that it is "iced"?) this dessert is served frozen. All our desserts are made on site by Jimmy our head pastry chef and this particular one is very well received usually. The market fish was Stone Bass and you are quite correct that this was not local on this day. When we called our fish merchant this was the closest caught fish to us available on the day. We always source our fish from reliable and responsible sources, we could have found something a little bit more local but we value sustainably caught fish over locality. I hope this helps and all of this information could've been available to you on the night had you just talked to us at the time!

The restaurant itself is beautiful and perfect for a ‘grown-up’ evening. The staff are polite and attentive and the food is delicious. We experienced some problems however, which took the shine off an otherwise perfect night:- We are both in our eighties and a bit doddery (but recycled teenagers at heart) and the lack of exterior lighting was a problem, especially for me as I have never fully recovered from a stroke and multiple fractures to my spine in a car accident, so making our way from the car to the entrance was nerve racking, made worse by the fact that two coaches blocked access to the car park. The steps to the main entrance were also a problem. If there is an alternative, it was not evident, in the dark. Once inside, we were greeted and seated by a lovely young lady. So far, so good! Then the menu arrived and the problems began. Everything sounded delicious but for medical reasons, my husband is on a low carb diet. This is usually easily overcome by making minor adjustments to the dishes. We asked if he could have a starter of prawns on a green salad but was told that the restaurant didn’t have prawns as they ‘go off’ quickly. I suggested a small green salad on it’s own but this wasn’t available either and the waiter told us that “If it’s not on the menu, we haven’t got it”. My husband had the lamb with feta. I ate the feta! We both had steak for mains. The meat was delicious and cooked to perfection but my husband could not have the chips and ordered a side dish of green beans instead We paid extra for this, which I thought was unnecessary. My own meal was perfect and the chips were probably the best Inhave ever tasted. Sadly, for the above reasons, we are unlikely to return to the Arbor.

We have had a Cream Tea at the Green House Hotel on two previous occasions, the last just over a week ago, and they have been excellent so we decided to book an evening meal under the ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme. We got the usual friendly efficient service that we had got previously but when the food came the steak was very disappointing. £29.50 for nine chips, half a Tomato, a Mushroom and a Steak that was just about lukewarm. The pat of Cheddar Cheese and Onion Butter on the Steak had not melted in the slightest. I had it taken away but it was only marginally better when returned! My wife had Plaice with Capers and Shrimps and that came with New Potatoes and no other Vegetable. She said the fish was very nice. We had Desserts, which at £8 each, were expensive but okay. The waiter took my Rekorderlig Cider off the bill to compensate. Sorry to say but the visit was an expensive disappointment.
