My husband & I stopped at the MC for lunch. We’re not vegans but fancied trying something different. We weren’t disappointed. I had the bean & quinoa chilli served with sweet potatoes, my husband had the quiche & salad. Both dishes delicious. The berry smoothie was amazing. Service polite. So glad we chose this place. We don’t live locally but will definitely re-visit when we’re next in the area. Not just for vegans but those who want to try tasty, fresh food.

OMG we had the Avocado Boat, it was excellent, very tasty food and a decent amount of salad. Coffee was also very good. The choices here are great and we even came back for breakfast but they stopped serving at 11.30, we missed it by 8 minutes. All the food served looked fantastic. I would definitely recommend it and if back in Bournemouth we’ll be back.

Mad Cucumber is the absolute best! I always look forward to visiting Bournemouth just so I can eat here. The quiche is absolutely to die for, but everything I have eaten here has been great. The satay tofu, fried breakfasts and even the salad dressing is incredible. I bought 4 pieces of their berry cheesecake last week because it was just so unbelievably good. Staff are so friendly and lovely and new covid measures in place make eating inside the cafe feel very safe. The matcha latte is unlike any other I've ever had. Absolutely amazing vegan comfort food! I will return as often as possible!

“100 stars!” - my daughter’s comment. Funky environment, lovely staff and delicious food. Highly recommended :) We had the smoothie bowl, fluffy pancakes and avocado on sourdough - plus a complimentary piece of pie we couldn’t even manage, so they gave us a takeout box for it. We’ll be back!

I'm 11, and I'm also vegan. My parents come here all the time with me. The staff are so friendly, and I'm really fussy, so a big round of applause to them, because I haven't had a single one of their meals that I have not liked, now that's immpressive! It must be hard running a restuaraunt when a huge pandemic is going on, but they are still managing to serve amazing food. I really appreciate how much effort goes into making the food. It's a great place, which does not support animal abuse (everyone deserves to live a happy life, even animals, and yes they do have feelings, so totally go to Mad cucumber, instead of going to a local butchers.) Even if you're not vegan, it is still delicious in there, so I suggest it. You don't have to eat meat to enjoy a meal (in fact, I enjoy it WAY more being vegan.) Mad cucumber is really welcoming too.

The interior is very "upcycled" but that's part of the charm of the place. Interesting menu. I thought the staff could have been friendlier and more welcoming. When I asked about the spice level of the Quinoa Chilli I was told "not spicy" which is not a helpful way to describe a Chilli. I ordered it anyway. I had to repeat my order 3 times (food and a tea) to get it received correctly! It was a gentle warm spice level and very tasty. I didn't particularly like the silicone re-useable teabags - eco but unappealing. The restaurant was very busy so is popular which is a good sign. If the staff could just smile and say hello that would get a fifth star.

Visiting Bournemouth for the first time last weekend, I searched for somewhere Vegan for my first morning in the city and decided to check this place out. Well I'll tell you what... I've never felt so welcomed. The staff there were so friendly, warming and always with a smile on their face. I went Saturday and Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed their cooked breakfast and good coffee. I also had a wonderful fruit smoothy on the Saturday and although it was a one day only thing they were trying out (I'd recommend you keep making that one), they were willing to make me another one the next day, which was really wonderful of them! I'll be moving to Bournemouth next year and will definately be popping in as often as I can. Thank you all so much again for the service you gave.

Be kind to everyone is printed on the wall. HA! That certainly starts with the humans handing you their money! The portions of food are minuscule and we felt royally shafted at extortionate prices. This was reinforced when we saw staff bring out their food bowls stuffed to the brim. If you can go when staff are eating you’ll see how much they have on their plates/bowls compared to you the paying customer. And the bowls are small don’t let the photos deceive you. The rice was so hot in places I’d swear it had been microwaved as it burnt my mouth. I’ve cooked rice in a rice cooker and have in the past used a saucepan to steam on the hob and I never got it that hot! There is no atmosphere in the place as the staff are not interested. Nobody came and asked how our meal was half way, we weren’t offered any more drinks and the place was quiet.

Dear Hotpoisonedcrane, Thank you for taking your time to leave us a review. We are sorry to read you comments which we don't believe reflect our offer (good size portions) as it can be read in several reviews left by other customers. Very often we are asked for boxes to takeaway leftover food and in general people praise our big portion as we believe in offering nutritious and filling meals. We would like to mention that our staff works super hard on the floor and behind the scene to try and deliver a great experience to our customers, & as we believe very much in our staff, we want to make sure their hard work is paid off; therefore yes, we do feed them during their shifts with food that can nurture their working bodies. Comparing what our staff eats to what is offered on the menu or on our special board seems a bit unfair to us. Sorry we weren't able to impress you. Mad Cucumber Team

I booked in advance for breakfast here whilst visiting the area with friends. As it was a friends 60 th birthday I also ordered a cheesecake for her that the cafe was happy to make gluten and dairy free to enable me to have a slice too ( I’m Coeliac and dairy intolerant). We were so impressed with our food that we booked again for the following morning. None of us are vegan or vegetarian but it was a pleasure to try something different. The porridge was so tasty but bowls way too big ! Service was superb and surroundings quirky. Thank you to the owner for all her help and good luck for the future.

Fabulous, fresh and nutritious food in comfy setting with friendly and helpful service. Honestly couldn’t have enjoyed lunch more. I had the Avocado boats with hummus on sourdough. My wife had the Moving Mountain burger. Plates full of delicious and nutritious food prepared and served with care and love. We both had mocha made with almond milk. Rich coffee and deep chocolatey goodness. Delicious 😋 This is one of the best meals I’ve had in years. So once lockdown eases get yourself to Bournemouth and eat here!!!

As a newly transitioned vegan, i am still exploring recipes and meals whilst discovering all the best local vegan cafés and restaurants and The Mad Cucumber did NOT disappoint!!! Very friendly staff, gorgeous decor and warm feel. Me and my boyfriend (also newly vegan) visited on Saturday 9th April for a mid shop lunch. I had the Marinated Tofu with Satay sauce (as a peanut butter addict) and my boyfriend had the Bean Burger with Wedges on the side. We both were extremely impressed with our dishes; highly tasty, full of flavour and a good portion. The price was also very reasonable considering alot of vegan venues charge very high prices. The staff were oh so friendly and accommodating and our visit was one i would repeat again and again.

Went here for lunch, and took my (non-vegan) parents. The food was really tasty. We had the burger, poke bowl and marinated tofu. Wonderful polite service and the vibe of the place is really cool too. Recommend for vegans and non-vegans alike - a good place to show skeptics how tasty vegan food can be!

My wife, daughter, and I, decided to make our first visit. My wife has recently joined me in the vegan lifestyle, and our carnivorous daughter was intrigued. We each had the vegan burger, a different smoothie and, being particularly hungry, I treated myself to the avocado boat. Firstly, we were greeted on our way in. Great start. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. The satisfaction continued. Within the first bite of her vegan burger, our daughter said “How can this be nicer than a beef burger? This tastes amazing. Dad, will you let me try your vegan burgers at home?”. Another convert in the making? Give me time. The smoothies were absolutely delicious. In fact, I was tempted to try a different blend. The avocado boat with sour dough bread and hummus was also rather tasty. What more can I say? Oh yes, the decor and ambience is very relaxing. 10 out of 10 guys. You’ll definitely see us again. We hope you have a wonderfully busy Summer!

Unacceptable. I visit here every time I go to Bournemouth for a sit down meal. Always great portion sizes. This time we had a take away and I took my package to the beach and opened it. Before I opened it, I wondered why the carton felt so light. I was shocked when I opened it. My friend looked at the portion size and said ‘That’s a toddler’s meal’. I paid £12 for a heaped tablespoon of rice, a tablespoon and half of curry and table spoon of salad. I joke not. I had to use bread we had brought with us to bulk up the food. Thinking back I should have taken it right back to the shop. They would never have served us that if we were sitting down. My husband was also disappointed with his portion and said it wasn’t worth the long walk from the beach. Shame as we were so looking forward to our visit

Came with my kids and 3 other adults. 3 of the adults wanted avocado madness and they didn’t have so we ended up with wedges as no options for us to eat. The kids and one other adult had the pesto pasta and Mac n cheese kids meal but that amount was what my kids would have eaten as toddlers not 7 year old boys. I now need to go and cook them a second lunch.

Dear customer, We are very sorry to write that your review is extremely unfair. You booked a table over the phone after confirming with our staff that we would have been able to cater for you nut free & mushroom free food for your kids (leaving a 1* for service feels wrong already). Once you arrived, on a absolutely busy Sunday lunch time (in fact we had no tables available but the one you reserved) our staff immediately informed you that we were out of avocados, this because we had a a cospicuos number of orders wit avocado, and because unfortunately we can not control the ripeness of the fruit that gets delivered to our café (worth a mention that one of our staff was even sent to buy more avocados at the beginning of the day just to be extra stocked but we ran out nonetheless before lunch even started & there is nothing we can do about that). This said, you wanted to confirm the same matter with the next member of staff who came to get your order & once she confirmed the same, you highlighted how you were forced to only eat wedges because we had no avocado. Our menù is offering a wide variety of food, we are fairly sure you could have enjoyed another meal of choice. The kids menù describes our dishes thoroughly just like our regular menù, so with a price half of an adult portion I am sure most people expect just the half portion that we always serve to our younger customers; worth another mention that even one of you adults decided to go for the kids pasta portion. The plates collected were clean, which leads us to think that after all you did enjoy the food, not a 1* worth.ù We take seriously all our customers feedback & reviews, but honestly we don't accept things written out of spite just to give our working hard staff and place, a bad look. Best Regards Mad Cucumber Management
