First time visiting Bournemouth and so glad I found Vicolo. My partner and I wanted to have an early dinner on a Saturday night and a quick Google maps search came up with a long list, but not many with a 5-star rating as Vicolo has. Although the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived (at about 6pm), it very quickly filled up - and it’s no surprise why. Really incredible food and inventive mocktails, excellent and attentive service from friendly staff and a very comfortable and warm atmosphere throughout the restaurant. And as a really lovely finishing touch, the staff are building a ‘visitor photo wall’ with little Polaroid pictures; we got given one to keep so we’ll always have a nice momento of our visit. Vicolo deserves every 5-star rating it holds and if I ever find myself in Bournemouth again I won’t have to think twice about where to eat!

We had lunch there yesterday for about the 10th time and continue to be impressed by the high standard of all the food. Their Lasagne must be probably the best in town and the Tiramisu is unmatched in our experience. Everything that we have tried so far has been really good.
The staff are always friendly and helpful and overall the menu offers good value for money. If you haven't done so already, it's got be worth a try.

Lucky find spotted the day before by my brother. Food was outstanding and the staff were great. Very knowledgeable about menu items and answered all questions without fail. They even offered a non spicy sauce option once they realised I would not enjoy the advertised sauce. Pizza was massive and option given to box up for later. A must try in Bournemouth!

My family and I visited the restaurant tonight after reading all of the great reviews, however this was the complete opposite experience for us. I am not one to complain, but I feel I have to express my complete dissatisfaction on this occasion. When we arrived, we were not greeted by any staff, so seated ourselves at the allocated named table. We then had to wait a good 15 minutes to be hosted by anyone to be given menus. A while after, we had to get up and ask someone to please come and take our drinks order. We decided at this point to not waste any more time and give our food orders. After 2 hours of being in the restaurant, we had only been offered one drink and had our starter. At this point, again, we had to leave the table to ask where our mains was. May I note here that, when our starter plates were finally removed from the table 1.5 hours after eating, we was asked if we would like our desert menu!! I explained we hadn’t even had our mains! When the food eventually came out after 2 hours, we had to send a dish back as it was so cold, you would think they had waited to defrost the meatballs before they made it. They gave us other tables meal, of which, after we had to endure that table speaking terribly about us, as If it was our fault - we had by coincidence ordered the same dishes-this obviously wasn’t explained the other table as the were completely vulgar about us. The food was average at the most - what did come out. Tables that arrived after us all came and left while we were sat there patiently waiting. After we complained, the manager was apologetic and did discount our food by 20% & offered a discount on future visits. But by the point we had been in the restaurant over 2.5 hours and were just fed up & unfortunately would never return. Utterly disappointed. The customer service needs some attention, lacking in hosting skills. It shouldn’t take someone to complain to get any attention and we absolutely shouldn’t have to prompt a waitress to offer us drinks. I personally only had ONE drink in the whole 2.5 hours. Sadly, the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. However, on a brighter note, they do appear to take allergy’s very seriously.

Dear Rebecca, I Vlad and I am terribly sorry to hear your experience at Vicolo. Obviously this is not what we sacrifice our time for. We are eager to make every customer happy. But this time it seems that we made you very unhappy and I wanted to apologise for this. Your feedback is very important for us and upon review the CCTV I cannot agree more with your disappointment. It was a busy night but it is not an excuse, we take full responsibility for your bad experience at Vicolo. You are our fist, and I hope last, non 5 star review. Our manager promptly came to your table and apologised for the error with the wrong food served and also apologised to the other table, he does not recall other customers making unpleasant comments to your table and we did not want you feel threaten by other customers just because you were voicing your opinion. The reason why the manager wanted to invite you again, and offer a discount, was mainly to give you the chance to experience our food and service without any issues. I hope, that you would try and give us another chance, but will understand if you won't.

We were excited to dine here after reading the reviews but our experience hasn’t lived up to the hype! We were greeted by a friendly waitress who took our orders. We were told we would have to wait for the kids menu as it was being printed - not a problem!
Took our orders and we eagerly awaited our food. The kids meals of spaghetti bolognaise arrived - tasted good. No offer of Parmesan?! Husbands pizza arrived and was good. I sat and waited. And waited. After 7 minutes of no food the waitress then arrived to tell me there had been a problem and my food would be another 2 minutes. No problem. Further wait. Then a different man came and explained that there had been an issue so my food would be a further while. My son had finished his meal when my very mediocre pesto tagliatelle arrived. Whilst eating, we heard the waitress and another man saying my name and how we had not arrived for our reservation. My husband called over to say we were actually here to no response. I returned home to an email from the booking company to say I was a no show and if I did this again I wouldn’t be able to book through them?! Finished the meal with two Irish coffees - no cream in mine. It wasn’t my night. To be fair they removed my meal from the bill but for a 70£ meal it just didn’t seem worth the hype. Shame!

Hello, I am sorry to hear you had such a bad night. We did everything we could on the evening to make it right but it was not good enough. It is not what we work for. We are such a small business and we give our 100% all the time. This time we fell short. However it was a very busy night, it does not want to be an excuse, but we were overloaded with reservations and I think there was a confusion with the booking system. So I apologise and I will see if I can change the status on the system from no-show to present. I hope you accept our apology and pay us a visit again.

We had a fabulous meal last night. The service was very friendly and helpful. The front of house man was really keen to ensure we enjoyed our meal at its best. The waiting staff were really friendly and attentive. We had bruschette, which was fresh and tasty and then an excellent seafood risotto with local mussels and a calzone pizza made to our own specific order, which was delicious. As was the pinot gricio wine.
Many thanks for a special evening and food experience we will be back.

What a fantastic find. a true taste of Italy. This was authentic Italian food and with generous portions. The questions about the menu was were answered concisely, my wife asked for a smaller portion and this was provided without any fuss. The service was excellent, and the staff were enthusiastic and attentive, without fuss. The patron came and ensured everything was in order. The tiramisu has to be tasted to be believed and is served in a novel fashion. Pizza was supreme with really tasty and lovely textured base and toppings. Really recommended and will visit again when in the area.

Found this by accident and are so pleased that we did! A wonderful restaurant with excellent staff who know their food. Daniel our server was so helpful with our choices, and added to the lovely atmosphere with his friendly and personable manner, taking genuine interest in us. The food was without exception first rate; from home made bread to simple tomato sauces packed with flavour to the best pizza we've ever had. Portions are generous so we even had a slice left to take home and enjoy the next day! We really feel that such individual enterprises deserve support and recognition. We certainly had an authentic taste of Napoli without having to fly there! We will definitely return the next time we are in Bournemouth and this time time leave room for dessert!

In Bournemouth for the weekend and so glad we came here. Literally in the best 3 pizzas I’ve eaten in my life, incredible dough and crust. The service was fantastic, they seemed to pre empt every question or need and it’s so nice to be served by the guys that own the restaurant and care so much about the food and your experience. Bravo.

We visited for the first time, the night before the Bournemouth triathlon.
It was busy but a great atmosphere and our reserved table was in a great place to people watch.
I’m coeliac and the waiter / manager spoke with great confidence and understanding about my menu options …which were wide and varied. My friend had the Pappardelle Al Funghi and I had a gf Penne version - both very tasty. For dessert, I had a Tiramisu Freddo … omg , simply heaven on a plate!
Highly recommended - shall certainly go again.

WOW, Just Wow!
We booked the room downstairs as we were a party of 15 for our son's 21st birthday. An excellent recommendation for not only us, but all the diners in the upstairs (and main) part of the restaurant!!!! All of our guests enjoyed amazing shared entrees, followed by starters and mains. Apart from the carbonara, I don't think any other mains were duplicated - so I can (but won't!) list all the varied and wonderful dishes that were consumed. Suffice to say, the menu, especially for a more intimate venue, was extensive and, apart from a couple, every single plate was returned empty to the kitchen. Those that weren't were returned to us at the end of the evening to consume at our leisure.
We were a lively bunch..... but NOTHING was too much trouble. The staff were all amazing, kind and courteous and I truly cannot thank everyone enough for making my son's birthday celebration such a memorable one.
Whilst I understand each individual's experience is different, I truly cannot understand any of the poor reviews, as the service and food we received was above and beyond pretty much anything we have experienced before.
We are not locals, but have connections to Bournemouth via family and the University, and most definitely will be returning (if they'll have us!).

This is an amazing hidden gem of a restaurant in the town centre. It’s genuinely the best Italian food I’ve had in England and there’s not a single menu item that isn’t delicious. The pizzas are divine and pasta is cooked to perfection. The service is warm and friendly and the atmosphere is very relaxed. There’s often groups of Italians eating which tells you how authentic the food is and the staff work so hard to ensure everyone has a good meal. We can’t wait to go again and we can’t wait to try more of the yummy food.

Celebrated my coeliac friends 40th, searched reviews for somewhere with a big range of Gluten free options and Vicolo exceeded our expectations, almost everything on the menu was available as a Gluten free option! The food was so tasty and the staff were amazing too, so friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend, this lovely restaurant.

Nice meal. Food excellent. Beautiful garlic bread , meatballs and crispy prawns to start. Seafood pasta and Diavolo pizza really authentic in terms of presentation and flavour! Lovely shot of limoncello too at the end. Service was good once we were seated, however I absolutely HATE IT when you walk in to a restaurant and aren’t acknowledged! Know they were busy but just a ‘won’t be a moment’ or even a smile and eye contact whilst we stood waiting to be seated wouldn’t have gone a miss. There’s no excuse- first impressions last!
