We have been here many times over the years, we have always received good service from the staff and the menu, which has been very good is now even better, we especially liked the idea of using locally sourced foods. We had the pistou olives and feta whilst perusing the menu, for starter I had the fish cake followed by the salmon fillet, my lady had the goats cheese and sea bass main course all delightfully presented and very tasty, for dessert we had Pavlova and poached pear, both excellent. The restaurant has a very smart but relaxed ambiance with a nouveau arte influenced decor, an excellent setting to enjoy a superb meal.

My friend and I had lunch here today, taking advantage of the 'Eat Out To Help Out' scheme the Cumberland Hotel is still operating on early week days. We were very impressed with the precautions taken, plenty of hand sanitizers and our temperatures were taken and mobile numbers recorded. The food was excellent, we had a starter and a main course each but had no room for a dessert. Wine is expensive. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxed and the service attentive but unobtrusive. The only niggle we had was the seating - in 'bucket' type soft chairs which we found too low for the height of the table and giving no support. When we mentioned this to a member of staff the seats were changed for ordinary upholstered dining chairs which were very comfortable and far more suitable.

Had dinner here as part of a DB&B package. Food great and service good too ~ great ambience. Drinks had to be paid for separately every round and as we were on BB&D we were not allowed to see the A La Carte menu ~ it was top secret ! That was very annoying. At £ 30 p.p. It was not great value. Not one to return to on a regular basis.

I was looking forward to our afternoon tea but left thinking I cannot recommend it. The first surly waiter just said "you have the amuse bouche tea" and plonked down 2 walnut size cauliflower cheeses which to be honest I didnt think was appropriate for the tea. The presentation of the tea was good but the quality of the cakes very poor the butter tasted greasy and what was supposed to be dorset cream had absolutely no taste just soft and bland as were the scones no taste at all. The cups and saucers could have been a bit finer but you cant have everything. As the plates were tiny approx.15 cm square it was a juggling act to keep everything on the plate. I am just so pleased that I didnt pay full price and took advantage of an offer and certainly will not be going back or recommending to anyone else The lady in charge was absolutely brilliant so helpful, made eye contact and cheerful as was the waiter who brought us the teapots. Not impressed at all.

Lovely decor, good staff. Party of 6. Three ordered the burger but somehow the waiter put it through as filet steak. He tried to blame us for the error. We had to wait an hour to get our food by which time the others finished eating. The head waiter was very apologetic and offered to take drinks and dessert off the bill. Thank you.

Visited the Ventana Grand Cafe today along with 2 friends. Our first meal out together in such a long time and it really was lovely. The staff we exceptionally helpful and we’re very attentive, nothing was too much trouble. The food was nicely presented, very tasty and such a calm atmosphere within the room. The decor throughout the hotel is very stylish and interesting, my friend commented that it felt like we were on a cruise ship! Although the weather was a bit cloudy today the space by the pool would be a very enjoyable spot to eat when the sun is shining. Would definitely recommend.

We're glad to hear that the pea and mint soup, fish and chips were all delicious and received a 5/5 rating.. Your camembert cheese starter also sounds super delicious! Superb as always, I've looked forward to returning here for 2 years and it does not disappoint. One of my favourite restaurants and not just in Bournemouth. Inventive use of good produce and presented immaculately. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, the duck breast especially - absolutely nailed how to serve a quality bit of duck. Quiet as it is at the moment there was still a sense of ambience in the cosy dining room, service excellent as ever and reasonably priced to boot. A visit won't disappoint, highly recommended.

My partner and myself were strolling along the front when we stumbled across the Ventana grand cafe and thought we’d have a spot of lunch. The sign said all welcome. Now I’m quite a large guy and I have a full body tattoo and my partner has many too. This shouldn’t even be a part of any review but on this occasion it’s where our experience begins. As soon as we arrived the guy holding reception (div in a cheap blue suit and glasses) began looking us up and down like we had no business being there. After asking if we’d booked a table (nearly every table was empty) we were finally seated. No one came near us again so after 15 minutes I had to go and ask for drinks. The menu said that the pink gin (£10 a glass) came with a botanic mixer. We were told we could have soda water or coke. Then finally we were graced with ordering food. My partner ordered the £19 ceaser salad. When it came it was as dry as a bone so she requested a little more dressing. What came out was a small bowl of Mayo from a squeezy bottle like you’d get from Asda. On departure I said goodbye to the div in glasses and a cheap blue suit and he simply looked away like I wasn’t even there. Who do you people think you are. You’re in Bournemouth not st. Tropez. Never again and if I did, it would only be to drown the div in glasses and his cheap blue suit in your little puddle you call a swimming pool. Pretentious and rude. If you’re not perfect looking, don’t bother……. You’re not good enough

Thank you for you kind compliments with your lovely words describing a member of staff, very eloquently written. *sarcasm* Your review, is abusive and threatening. Lovely image as well. Your review says more about you than it says about us. Just for the record we welcome everyone, and if st. Tropez is not your style, then it is not your style. We all have our own personal preferences.

We visited the Cumberland yesterday for a Cream Tea courtesy of our grandson and his wife. The setting is very nice and the food and service was excellent. The way the food is presented is delightful starting with an Amuse and then a lovely stand of sandwiches, scones, jam, cream and butter and then on the top a nice selection of miniature cakes which includes a little trifle type dish. We are going to try a main meal another time.

Joined some family on a short break from the Midlands (we live in Southampton) for lunch. Delighted with the eat out to help out extension of 50%off until the end of November!!! Food was fabulous, my mum adored her 6 fresh oysters that cost £7, my warm goats cheese Salad was the best I’ve had in a long time and the rest of the party loved the fish pie and pork belly. Glorious views over Bournemouth and delighted to meet Valentina with her fabulous and friendly service! Considering driving the 35 miles to enjoy another meal!

We eat here every time we stay at the Cumberland. The food is really excellent, quite a small menu but everything is always beautifully served and delicious. From the ‘amuse bouche’ to the puddings (panecotta = to die for) it’s all gorgeous. Great ambience, and lovely waiting staff. In particular Niles, Angela and Chiara who made us very welcome and reserved our favourite table every night.

We had afternoon tea, and the selection and quality of the spread was excellent, service on par as well as safety measures due to covid, staff wearing masks and constant cleaning. In the evening we had dinner and wanted to order almost every item on the menu, locally sourced too which was great. Couldnt fault it, many thanks to all staff for a great stay.

This is the second time we have had afternoon tea at the Ventana Grand Cafe, and the standard was excellent on both occasions. Attentive staff and excellent food. In fact we think this is the best afternoon tea in Bournemouth or Poole and have sampled most.

I would have given this restaurant five stars on the food, presentation and service alone, but the room temperature was so cold, that I not only had to sit wearing my coat, but my partner, in his shirt, ended up having a portable heater brought to our table by our excellent waiter, because the manager refused to turn the heating up! I can honestly say that in my 50 + years of restaurant dining, I have never had the displeasure of being very cold throughout a meal in any restaurant, even abroad! I am assuming that the current energy crisis has resulted in management turning the heating down and despite my dress being a warm, wooly mini jumper-dress, the room temperature certainly spoiled what would otherwise have been a very good dining experience. Our waiter, Pedro, was first class. Unbelievably polite, professional and attentive without being pushy at all. Likewise, our food (we both had fillet steak) was perfectly cooked and presented. If we knew the room might not be so cold, we would definitely be booking to go again very soon, but have both decided to wait until the weather warms up!
