We went for a cheeky afternoon cocktail on a very wet and blustery day at this fabulous bar and restaurant and ended up staying for 2 hours, left for 2 hours, then came back for supper. Rick (the Do-er) was extremely accommodating for our little family. A master of his craft. He took care of us, our little girl, squeezed us in for dinner (without making us feel rushed or indeed squeezed) and ensured we had everything we needed to assist in making our experience as enjoyable as possible. The cocktails were yummy and not at all overpriced for what they were. The lunch smorgasbord we had was incredibly tasty and very reasonably priced too. Dinner was delightful. I can thoroughly recommend the oysters! The gin cured salmon was fresh and full of flavour and the monkfish with beetroot risotto was so yummy (all three of us had this, including our 3 year old daughter) that all plates were licked clean. My partner and I shared a cheese board, again full of flavour and all cheeses were served at their appropriate temperature to ensure maximum flavour. In my opinion, you get what you pay for. We paid for a yummy supper and a fabulous host in an attractive location. The bar staff were on point and the cocktails were divine. My only criticism would be the waiting staff could have been a little more attentive and shown a greater attention to detail, for example - empty plates and glasses were slow to be cleared, we had to ask for more refreshments and condiments on an ongoing basis....But pleasant enough to speak to and helpful when asked. Overall, lovely afternoon/evening and will come back next time we are in Bournemouth. Thanks Rick for looking after us.

We did not have a reservation but were found a table on the ground floor. A very attractive restaurant with the top floor being circular and the ground floor echoing the same fluid movement. The menu was interesting without being too large. Reasonably priced, a starter for £10, main course £10plus a dessert for £10. My husband had a burger and I had fish & chips and it was the best fish I had eaten in a very long time. Service very attentive without being too much. Our only criticism was the volume of the Latin American music which made conversation almost impossible. Thank you to the staff who made it a very pleasant evening.

Clean and modern designed restaurant with a warm 360 degree view of it’s surroundings. The food was visually appetising and very delicious. Prices vary, and can be expensive, yet matches the quality of the food and professional service. Welcoming experience and tasty dishes. Would visit again and recommend.

This was our first time eating at NEO and we were not blown away unfortunately. We went into the restaurant in the morning to book a table for that evening and we were told there was only an early reservation or a later reservation left so we chose the later (21:15), however, between us being seated at the back of the restaurant and the rest of the diners at the forefront, there were quite a few empty tables which meant we were out of the atmosphere. Whilst making the booking I told the lady I was vegetarian (not vegan, I still enjoy dairy) and she did go to the kitchen a couple of times to ask the chef if the ‘vegetarian’ alternatives on the main menu were exclusive of gelatine and animal rennet, which the main wasn’t, so they helpfully said they could make the risotto minus the Parmesan. However fast forward to the evening, I was served a fish appetiser which I had to question if it was vegetarian (luckily before eating) so it was taken away, then brought back again because it was fish and not meat!?! (Pescatarians eat fish not vegetarians) and then finally brought a vegan option. We got through the other courses which were OK, however again on desert, after seeing what was brought out I again asked if it was vegetarian and it was not - the panna cotta on the chocolate plate had gelatine in. I wasn’t offered an alternative so I gave it to my partner instead. My partner felt his desert had been frozen for too long and didn’t have the smoothness it should have and my chocolate tart was more on the bitter side. My partner was a chef so he did feel the food could’ve been a little better at £90 a head. I also feel there should have been a moral obligation to check I was receiving ALL vegetarian food, especially since we made the booking in person and explained I didn’t eat gelatine or animal rennet (in Parmesan) and was told that the main menu options were vegetarian (rather than having to go vegan which I don’t enjoy as much)... 2020 surely it should be key to meet customers dietary needs now, especially if pre-discussed? So I’m this respect the service was disappointing. Apart from this, the waiters / waitresses were all friendly, and inside the venue is lovely. I had a few mocktails which were also good.

Dear Natalie M, Thank you for posting your feedback and although your experience was not perfect I am really pleased that you enjoyed many elements of your evening. I am sorry that the set New Years Eve menu did not suit your particular vegetarian requirements and we can learn from your experience and endeavour to take more time in establishing exact dietary requirements in the future. New Years Eve is a very busy night for us and that is why your table was located at the rear of the Restaurant. Most of our diners made reservations some time ago and requested tables near the window. I am pleased that you found the team to be friendly and you liked the venue and the mocktails. May I take this opportunity to wish I wish you a very Happy New Year and we hope that you will visit us again some time and enjoy our A La Carte menu, Kind regards Patricia

Heard great things about Neo, so decided to treat my mother to lunch here. Upon arrival at the restaurant, there was another customer in front of us, so we were asked to take a seat whilst the gentleman seated them. However, there was other staff available at this time so unsure why we needed to wait. Whilst we were waiting we saw the antibacterial gels on a tray, but all with their lids off, so customers would need to pick up the bottle to use any. We were then shown to our table, and given a table by the window which had fantastic views out to Bournemouth seafront. My mother then asked the waitress weather the monkfish has skin on it, but the waitress did not know and said she would find out, she came back and said all fish dishes have the skin on it, except the fish and chips, though we could not see anywhere on the menu the fish and chips being advertised as a choice? We ordered drinks and our food order at the same time, as it was lunch time we went straight for mains. We then enjoyed the view and chatted. However, we were all looking at our watches and realised we had been in the restaurant for over 50 minutes and there was still no sign of any food, no waiting staff had been back to our table to see if we wanted any more drinks. The restaurant was fairly quiet by this point as our reservation was for 2pm one of the last sittings for lunch. Most other customers were having desserts and coffees by this point. Eventually our food turned up, and it was presented lovely. I would give 5* for presentation and also our food was piping hot which was fantastic. However, I had moules and after they were placed down, and the waiters had walked away, I realise I hadn’t been given a spoon, so I then needed to find the attention of waiting staff. I just think for a 5* restaurant the waiting staff didn’t seem very on the ball. The service really let the food down. The food was delicious but sadly no waiting staff returned to check if everything was ok, nor to ask if we wanted any more drinks even though most of our glasses were empty. We also noticed the air conditioning was also turned off, considering it was over 30 degrees outside and the building is a glass building, we were very uncomfortable and stuffy whilst eating. This sadly put us off from ordering desserts afterwards, which else we would have had. We asked for the bill and this was brought over, but then again we were looking around. Eventually a staff member came over but he didn’t ask how was our mail and just took the card payment. He didn’t even say thank you, just handed me the card receipt and walked off. I just think the attitude of the waiting staff is terrible at this restaurant, their lack of customer service skills for a restaurant of this grade. It’s a shame as it’s the service that lets this restaurant down, as the food was 5*. I actually begrudged paying the 10% discretionary service charge that is automatically added to your bill, as personally I don’t feel any of the waiting staff in this restaurant deserved any tip on their service at today visit.

We have visited this restaurant every August for the last 3 years and can not believe how poor the service and food has become. 2 out of 7 meals where not ordered and by the time we received them the others had finished and we waited another 10/15 minutes, we were told they were on the house (brilliant, thank you) then to be told actually they were coming out of our waiters wages. We asked to speak to the manager as we did not agree with this, he was new and very apologetic and probably did not receive the correct amount of training and we were told by the manager it will in fact be taken from his wages. We expressed how disappointed we were with the food and with the service as drinks took way to long to arrive also. We were celebrating a 30th birthday and we ordered a whole lobster as one of our meals which was ridiculously small and did not come with the claws where you’d find a lot of meat so £40 on a lobster that looked like a big prawn. Our Monkfish was a terrible cut with a big muscle type thing throughout and when we did speak with the manager regarding it all he said were getting a free plate of food what more do we want? He was very aggressive leaning on the chair towards us and I think it’s appalling that the poor waiter has to pay out of his wages. Completely unacceptable, terrible experience, forgotten about towards middle and end and will never been returning or recommending this restaurant like we used to.

Dear Sarah, Thank you for your feedback, I am not sure what actually happened on this occasion as everything sounds so far apart from our usual excellent food and service. I want to reassure you that mistakes are NOT taken from waiters wages - I wonder if an attempt at a joke was possibly misunderstood? Popular restaurant that my wife and I visited before seeing Michael Ball & Alfie Boe at the BIC. They were very busy and the speed of service suffered as a result, although they ensured we were able to make the start time at the BIC. We chose 2 courses (main and dessert) from the fixed price menu; good value at £20 per person. My wife had the NEO fish & chips and I chose the pheasant kiev which was unfortunately not available so they replaced it with pork belly, which I accepted and went for. We both chose the apple crumble for dessert and a bottle of pinot grigio at £22. My wife's fish & chips was very good but my pork belly was edible but dry and overcooked. The dessert was lovely. I would not want to put anyone off trying NEO and we would give it another chance when next attending an event at the BIC or Pavilion but, given the reviews we read before booking we expected to be rating it at 4 or even 5. Overall I was a little disappointed.

I have to say I was very disappointed. Last time we came in November everything was wonderful so we wanted to take my mum as a treat. Firstly I did not feel safe in terms of covid, the waiting staff got very close, hand sanitising wasn’t encouraged and the tables felt quite close. Secondly, the service wasn’t great. We all ordered cocktails (three) but only 2 arrived and over the course of the evening I was left without cutlery a few times. Thirdly, our main was very disappointing. I had the duck salad. It was so chewy I had to ask for a steak knife (which took a while to arrive) and the salad I could have whipped up myself. Lastly to top it all off, we were waiting patiently for the bill, and instead of coming over and asking us if we wanted coffee, we were told the table was needed back. However we hadn't had the opportunity to pay! I was very aware when we booked that you needed the table back, however the staff should aid this by speeding things along. I understand things have been difficult due to covid which is why we wanted to support local restaurants. Overall we spent £210 for three people, I did not leave feeling like a had a) a good evening or b) value for money. I think we’ll think twice before returning. I attempted to contact the restaurant after but after 2 weeks no response

The good part of the evening was the staff, who were welcoming, efficient and very friendly, if not wholly sympathetic on two counts. When we arrived, I asked if the near-deafening music in the bar would also be heard in the restaurant upstairs. I was assured not. Regrettably untrue, and we ended the evening with our heads thrumming. We both started with tempura prawns. The batter was not strictly tempura, but pleasant enough. This was followed for me by monkfish on risotto. The fish was a tiny portion, about four mouthfuls. It had the smell of near-stale fish, and had clearly been out of the water for some time. The risotto was overcooked and a mush of indescribably foul flavour. I was very surprised. Had I mistakenly produced this at home, I would have binned it. Soon after the waiter had removed my full plate, the manager appeared. We explained the problem. He asked if we wanted something else. As my wife had had a similarly bad meal, which was left largely uneaten, we decided to call it a day. We already had the measure of the chef’s cooking abilities, so there was no point in staying to be punished further. No deduction was made from our bill. I paid over £100 for 8 prawns between us, a few mouthfuls of fish and a bottle of Picpoul. Exorbitant by any standard. Before leaving, I went to avail myself of the bathroom. I opened the door to face a floor awash with urine. Utterly disgusting. I think we’ll give this place a miss from now on.

We thought we’d treat our dad to a special lunch using the Eat out to help out scheme yesterday. We had a lovely table reserved upstairs for the 5 of us, however the service and food was disappointing. I had to chase and ask the waitress for our mains as we waited more than half hr for our food to arrive. We ordered the chateaubriand steak for 2 (medium to well done). The steak arrived dry and the accompanying sauce had a skin on it which looked like the meal had been sitting under the hot lights/ lamps to keep the food warm for too long. The portion itself was disappointing and barely enough for 2 people (and we were 2 women) My other sister ordered a ribeye (cooked medium) it arrived well done on the sides and rare in the middle. The staff did not even check if we needed anymore drinks or check in on us with our meal, we had to prompt them for any service at all times. We found the quality of the food and service slow, poor and expensive for what was served. We would not be coming back here in a rush.

Having visited this restaurant once before we were pleased to be told they could accommodate the 6 of us as walk-in customers due to a cancellation. The food was very good however the service left a lot to be desired. We appreciated that in the current situation allowances needed to be made but the taking of our order took ages, our drinks were not refreshed for over an hour and two drinks never arrived and had to be cancelled due to our 3hours parking running out. The eat out government incentive had to be requested as not automatically taken off the bill and when we asked for the 10% service charge to be removed from our £300 bill, as we didn’t feel we had received good service, we were made to feel that we were being ungrateful as they had done us a massive favour giving us a table when in fact we were filling a cancellation. The guy who served us was very confrontational and accusatory and demanded reasons for our not paying the ‘optional’ service charge, even though we told him we were running out of time on parking, until a member of our group made it clear it was not open to discussion. As all tables had been pre-booked and ours was a cancellation they should have been fully aware of the amount of covers they would be doing that evening and staffed accordingly. I would like to think that we were just unfortunate but we witnessed another table complaining that they had waited an hour for their bill and another get furious for being forgotten in the corner. Such a shame as the food was good, particularly the mains, and the views from the restaurant are very pleasant but we will feel uncomfortable about returning.

We visited this restaurant in August, after reading the reviews we were very excited for our little break away after lockdown. We had booked for lunch and dinner as the restaurant was participating in the eat out to help out scheme and restaurants in the area were fully booked so we had no other alternative. On our lunch trip we were served with our starter which was lovely but then we had to wait over an hour for our main, we did notice that customers who had arrived after us were getting their meals before ours, when we queried this with a member of staff, he spoke to the manager who then came over and apologised and offered us complimentary drinks, he made this very clear that these drinks were on the house. Eventually our main arrived which was lovely, we ate and enjoyed the food, only the following day did I realise that I had been charged for our drinks that were suppose to be complimentary, I went and queried this with the restaurant and was told that a refund would be processed, I explained that I was returning back to London so could not come back at a later date so they took my contact details but unfortunately to date no one has been in contact nor have I received my refund. If I could rate the food I would give it 5 stars but the service was beyond poor. I would recommend going to Brassarie Blanc as the dining experience was much more enjoyable.

Dear K574WJjennifer Really surprised that it has taken over two months for you to decide to write this negative review. The easiest way to resolve this would have been to contact us directly rather than post an angry review. Had the bill been checked when issued this would not have happened and It is disappointing that you have chosen to write this review after all this time. I am really sorry that you did not enjoy your experience and I accept that if the drinks were offered as complimentary they should have been. There was obviously an error in posting to the bill. What I don't understand is why you did not receive the refund when you returned to the Restaurant. If you contact our General Manager this can easily be resolved.

I want to start this review saying that I’m sorry to leave this complain, but unfortunately I had a horrible experience and I want everyone to know about it. I visited the restaurant on Sunday evening with some friends to celebrate my birthday and I brought a cake with me. The staff were all amazing and took good care of us, and I really enjoyed my evening. The weather that night was very bad and we where walking so I kindly asked to leave the leftover half of the cake in restaurant to pick it up the following day (Monday). When I went there on Monday to take my cake back I was told that the head chef chucked it away. His excuse was that "nobody left a label on it so I didn't know who it belonged to and felt entitled to get rig of it''. I simply couldn't believe it. I was so mad that I had to leave the restaurant almost in tears to not make a hell of a scene in front of other customers. I wasn’t upset because of actual value of the cake (expensively custom made for me) gone to waist, but because of the way I was treated. Only on the way out someone bothered to say “sorry darling“. But my question remains, how on Earth do you throw something away without even wondering why it’s there? Or without checking if it belongs to someone?

Quite disappointed by this place. The majority was lovely but a few things let this place down. Firstly the member of staff was rude when we initially walked in, holding his hand up to my face to stop me talking. From this point it seemed very snobbish. We got seated at the back of the restaurant which just seemed to feel like the forgotten part of the restaurant compares to the gorgeous front overlooking the sea. The table was completely bare, not a thing on it which was just odd, not sure if this was due to Covid but it didn’t create the nice and luxury feeling you would expect from a place like Neo. Our waiter was lovely but It did feel very rushed. For starter scallops were amazing but the beef carpaccio was flavourless. For mains the rack of lamb was cooked to perfection but completely overpriced. The seabass was again cooked amazing but the garnish had an overwhelming taste of lemon which ruined the dish. There’s no doubt that this restaurant does do amazing food. For two starters, two mains, a small glass of wine and a rum and coke it was £99, the standard and service we received was worth no where near that. I was made to feel uncomfortable from the start which along with the okay food made the night highly disappointing. When asked to recommend a place I always ask myself would I go again and the answer here is there’s no way I’d go back.

Went to Neo on a Saturday evening for a birthday dinner. This place has been recommended. Started with with Tempura prawns, which were tasteless greasy and something you to expect out of a cheap Chinese takeaway. For the main we went for the large sharing stake, we asked for the steak to be medium to rare and the steak arrived blue. I complained to a manager ba ba I think his name was. he was extremely extremely apologetic and attentive but alas the evening was ruined and the food was well below the standard I would expect for the prices being charged. I would never return to this restaurant in my opinion it is overpriced and the food is of poor quality mainly I think down to the kitchen staff who obviously don’t care what they’re throwing out which is expensive tasteless food. We W were refunded 50% but in hindsight I wish I hadn’t paid a penny as this was an expensive evening for what was a very poor meal.
