Good but not exceptional

Our first time at this restaurant although it has been here for a while now, taking over the premises from the excellent Misada. Tandori is part of a franchise operation, and they spent a great deal of money on revamping the premises before opening. The restaurant now presents very well, good, clean decor, excellent table presentation and looks more expensive than it actually is. Menu good, food was good, roti rather burnt and we probably should have sent it back, but only real grumble was with the service which we felt was average at best; not slow but not friendly either, in fact our table of 4 got the distinct impression we were a nuisance in wanting a quick chat before ordering; and they were not especially busy... In all, okay, but a little underwhelming, especially with the range of very good ethnic restaurants in the North-West at present.

Hi Richard. Thank you for coming to Tandoori, Your feedback is important to us, Tandoori bar and eatery is our only restaurant , We are not part of a franchise or chain, We take great pride in our service and in our few years here we have built great friendships and support in the local community so its rather disappointing that you felt that way , The front staff maybe did want to take your order quickly due to lot of takeaways at that time so your food wasn't delayed, I can only presume We cook in a coal Tandoor so some side of naans do cook crispier, We would have made you another one if only you had asked.again. We take your comments on board and strive to get better, Thanks,Tandoori

Delicious food with awesome service in the area. Always recommend this place for authentic Indian cuisine! Real indian taste Desi style butter chicken which you can’t get anywhere else in New Zealand. Even chef(friend) of another Indian restaurant told to give a really good review after dinner. Cheers

Fantastic food and service!

Fantastic food and service! Really warm welcome and enjoyed our entire dinner including samosas, butter chicken , Indo Chinese Chicken and garlic naan. Especially the staff were extremely attentive! We experienced great service, great food, and a great price! Whiskey selection and support choosing the right after dinner drink rounded out a perfect meal. Look forward to returning!

Curry levels too high

We use this restaurant a lot for takeaways. Tonight we ordered our usual but unfortunately the medium was far too hot for us. Worse than other times. Would seriously consider going to one of the other Indian takeaways In the area. A pity as we have patronised Tandoori for 2.5 years since we have lived in Huapai.

Big disappointing shame

Shame i have to give 2 stars as food is pretty ok, but after the rude and disrespectful behavior i got from the lady who i think owns it with her husband (who is awesome) i could of easily given it a 1. If you are happy to eat 3 grains of "complimentary" rice with your $20 main you will be ok but for gods sake dont dare ask where the second small portion of "complimentary" rice is with your second $21.50 main because you will have a fight on your hands. I learnt the hard way unfortunately.

Arrived quite late on a Monday night. What a welcome and superb service. No rush or pressure. I think perhaps a starter had been reheated as a wee bit chewy but other than that just brilliant. Thank you!

A long wait for food!

Just had a takeout tonight for ease after a long hard week. Put the order in at 7.05pm was told 25 mins... went at 7.30pm to collect. Had to wait a further 25mins for our order. Although they did apologize they just offered my husband a water and a poppadom whilst he waited. No compensation offered. The curry was just average. You had our number, if the order is going to be that late you should call us...

We are really sorry that we didn't call you to say that it will be late. The Biryani does take a bit of time to make, however its not an excuse as around that time a lot of takeaways and walkin Customers showed up. A Top Class Restaurant & Experience

We ate at Tandoori Bar and Eatery in Huapai on Sunday evening on the recommendation of a friend. The restaurant itself was tastefully decorated and we felt immediately at home as we were welcomed at the door by the owners. We started with Onion Bhaji and Murg Malai Kebab which was exceptional. We asked the owner to recommend some mains. We were not disappointed with Kadahi Chicken, Dhal Tadka and a new Beef dish that we cant see on the Menu. If you like Beef ask for it. It was more of a Malay style. Quite dry but the flavours were incredible. All washed down with ice cold Kingfisher beer and Kulfi. Great service and a relaxed atmosphere makes this a 5 star restaurant. The best Indian food we have had in years. Despite having to drive from the North Shore this will become our go to Indian Restaurant. Just Fabulous!!!!

Eat in rather than take out!

We have had many, many takeaways from this restaurant but for a change we decided to eat in the restaurant. We had a fantastic meal, amazing flavours esp the fish curry that was recommended to us by the owner(i'm so sorry we didn't ask her name). She also recommended a great sparkling rose that I hadn't had before and it was great which I will definitely be having again. We highly recommend taking the time to eat in here as, as well as the great food, great service and friendly atmosphere it is also very well priced

Dinner and dog!

Some of the best Indian food I’ve had in New Zealand. Entrees amazing. Curries amazing. Really nice owners. Their adopted ex-racing Greyhound Oscar was there and he is so sweet! We will definitely go back!

Very nice food, not the main street taste, but a lot of hart and soul in it. Highly recommended. Also Sunil and Ashmita are so lovely makes everyone feel special. Thank you guys!
