Unfortunately the price I quoted online was a third of the price they wanted to charge. Having emailed to pay the 50% deposit requested I was told the fee would be significantly higher. Communication was quick and easy but obviously the outcome was negative and...therefore won't be staying.More

We ate here for the period over Christmas. The food quality and choices were excellent - the kitchen clearly works at a very high standard, and is superior to many higher profile restaurants. The choices available were good, and included vegan options (important for some...of our party). Highky recommend.More

On a reunion with three other couples. Good time had by all . Disappointed last time as was in a small room . Room good this time although the floor boards are a bit too creaky..Beer is good. Staff are very good. Breakfast is best...and personally I would like this for evening meal as well. Chef is a little to creative for my palate. It would be great if there was a simple option like a steak fillet and nothing else except a side or two, otherwise it’s the children’s menu for me next timeMore

What an amazing stay at The Black Swan. From the time we arrived until the time we left we had fantastic time. We stayed in Room 15 which is a suite and is absolutely beautiful. The log burner in the room was a bonus especially...with the cold weather. Every member of staff were fabulous, friendly and extremely professional. The food and service was exceptional. This was our first visit and we can’t wait to return soon.More

What a fabulous place. Food was amazing and we took our well behaved Labradoodle. We had the roast beef Sunday dinner and it was the best we have ever had. Deserts were like off master chef. We were staying in the area and it was...a real treat. Definitely worth the money. Service was excellent too.More

Attractive, comfortable dining room, excellent service, good range of wines and beers and good menu although the starters were rather large. Unfortunately, the menu does not change otherwise we would have returned at least another twice during the week.

We spent 2 nights at this hotel with dinner and breakfast both days. The evening menu is small but still provides great options. Between the 2 of us over the 2 nights we managed to sample most things. My favourite was the pate with treacle...bread starter and the crab risotto main which was packed with seafood and was delicious. My husband loved the scotch egg starter and the pork chop. All the food was top quality and presented beautifully. Staff are friendly and professional and very hard working. The breakfast was also excellent. Hope to return and sample more of the amazing food.More

We were shown to a table in a small dining room (12 covers) and offered tap water straightaway but it took a while before they came to take our food orders. We had a haddock kedgeree scotch egg and a smoked salmon and cucumber tart...to start and a pork chop and the chicken schnitzel as main courses. All the food was delicious, but sadly left no room for desserts. With two apple juices and a large Pinot Grigio, the bill was £85. Service was good and well paced.More

Lovely meal beautifully presented and good attentive service throughout. Whilst portions were not large they were sufficient and we could only manage a starter and main course . Could not describe prices as cheap but we we do not mind paying for good quality ....RecommendedMore

We booked a table at the Black Swan in high expectation but were very disappointed indeed. Our ‘table’ was sited in the public bar, (not the dining room)…….right outside the toilets and adjacent to a doorway to an outside seating area….not good! We had to...contend with the constant waft of the smell of a pine disinfectant ‘toilet smell’ coming from from the adjacent toilets, chattering and raucous people outside coming through an adjacent permanently open door and a packed seating area full of noisy kids and unfriendly people. To add to our enjoyment, we also had a gaggle of chattering, gossiping noisy youngsters employed as waiters/bar staff clustered around a till a few feet away. The food, was poor…portion size ridiculously small and very expensive ….The vegetarian option we ordered consisted of 4 chunks of butternut squash a few slices of onion and assorted sparse vegetables dumped on a 6 inch flatbread……. at a cost of £18.50 we expected more……The roast beef lunch…..was extremely poor….again we were served a 6 inch ‘round’ arrangement consisting of a slab of raw beef fat with about 1 inch of uncooked meat attached….on top of this was a dessertspoonful of rich carrot and swede mash, a spoonful of finely shredded unknown green vegetable topped by a cold Yorkshire pudding that was so soaked in fat it was inedible……we complained to the waitress, who initially objected to our complaint about the quality and size of potions by saying….’what’s wrong with it…it’s good food’…..We insisted she take the dish back to the kitchen it was so bad ….when it was returned, with the addition of an extra couple of mm thick tiny slices of beef..to add insult to injury we found the the cutlery we were provided with was so blunt it would not cut the raw beef we were given…. There was also an unidentified spoonful of fatty brown stuff in the Yorkshire pudding that on tasting was fatty and inedible. We asked for a large glass of red wine and were given a small one and a coke. The final insult was the bill….£56.60 for what was, one of the worst dining experiences we have ever experienced….More
