This is the second time I have hosted a dinner for 36 people at this restaurant. Everything went smoothly with great food, good service and pleasant ambience.

What a great restaurant! We went for my wife's birthday dinner. There is plenty of parking directly in front. The ambience is perfect - enough light, a proper bar, adequate table spacing for private conversation. It has a casual, family feel, with a wide range...of clientele including several "regulars". The service is attentive and very friendly without being intrusive. And the food was fresh and flavourful, and not too salty. We had the specials - salmon lasagne and spinach cannelloni - and they were excellent. The drinks from the bar were very good - not weak or watered down with extra ice. The prices are mid-range - good value for what you get. Overall, a lovely dinner. We will be back.More

Visited family in Auckland and wanted to say farewell and thank you with a dinner before winging my way back to the UK. Family have been to Piatti before as live in Torbay and recommended it knowing I would like it as being unpretentious, the...food and service being the highlights not a flashy and fancy venue that inflates the bill and makes you question whether worth it. Piatti was a refreshing change. The food was great, service was good and always available when you needed it. Great value as well. Overall 10/10 on all counts. Pity so far away!More

Living a few months every year in Europe, we can highly recommend this lovely local restaurant. We’ve been here many times and enjoy it on every occasion. It doesn’t pretend to be a restaurant in Italy, it’s a little kiwi local. Unpretentious and busy on...certain nights. A big tick to the tasty meat balls with fresh pappardelle, certainly as good as any we’ve had in Naples, Amalfi, Rome, Verano, Bergamo, and the many towns we stay in each year. Mushroom Risotto excellent. The Tiramisu and Limoncello cheese cake are other favorites. So a fabulous local restaurant with prices on a par with most Auckland restaurants. We love it and as soon as we get back from Europe again this year, we’ll dine at our little local. It has its own charm for sure. Muchas gracias Piatti see you soonMore

Having enjoyed the real thing over 4 weeks in Italy a few years ago, we have been on the hunt for the same here at home, especially somewhere we could call our local. The hunt continues. We've given up trying to find truly affordable because...that's just not possible in NZ now. But at any price it seems we can't find truly memorable Italian food here. We were a couple, in our 70s, out to enjoy a birthday together. Piatti is nice, as other people say. Pleasant staff, pleasant atmosphere, nice easy location, edible food, and not ridiculously expensive. The three-cheese garlic bread was delicious. Likewise the Spiedini Balsamico. Tasty and tender and just the right size for the one who chose it. The vege side plate was a disappointment, not for size or content. It comprised a few fresh green beans, some slices of carrot and celery, and a few pieces of broccoli. Gently sauteed, in butter I think. And it was blah!! All for the the lack of just a touch of magic via perhaps some garlic and maybe balsamic and a bit of pepper. It could have been so easily transformed. For the Mare e Monte, we requested parpadelle instead of linguine, and the request was granted with alacrity - well done. And the boat-shaped dish was much bigger than it first appeared to be, so the quantity was generous - much better than some more expensive Italian restaurants in NZ. The pasta was excellent and perfectly cooked. The mushrooms and prawns were ample too. So it was a satisfying dish, and filling, but not outstanding. In Italy we found a much more light-fingered approach to the sauces, so that even the creamy mushroom sauces were lighter, and in some cases the pasta might be dressed with little more than a drizzle of olive oil (the very best) and a herb or two, maybe a touch of the balsamic. And it seems to work magic because you just want to keep eating it. We seem to be often just a little heavy-handed here in NZ. It's almost impossible to screw up Afogatto, and theirs was as good as any. The sorbetto was very good too, like many others. And I fully understand why they charge me $11 corkage for bringing my own wine. The drinks are an important part of their profit - I get that. I don't bring my own wine to save money. I bring it to get what I want - not just in terms of the specific wine itself, but before I come I decant the wine back and forth many times to get it a healthy dose of oxygen, which can turn an inexpensive Primitivo from Puglia into a deliciously smooth and flavourful drink way beyond it's cost. And that is, of course, not at all practical for a restaurant to do. So I appreciate being able to BYO and am happy to pay the corkage. But two x 1.5 litre carafes of that same lovely Primitivo at a delightful little restaurant in Goia del Colle in 2019 did cost somewhat less in total than that corkage fee. The two front-of-house staff worked hard and were very good. So don't get me wrong. Piatti Italiani is almost as good as we've found in New Zealand so far, and better than many. But it hasn't left me craving for my next visit. And it hasn't made me want to bring my Italian friend there when he comes to NZ next. The fare was reasonable. A grand total of $110 for a pleasant evening, a fullsome meal, and good service is not too bad for NZ today. We've paid much more for less. But the magic was still not there. It probably deserves more than 3 stars, but I can't bring myself to give it 4. And I so wanted to.More

This is our favourite restaurant near Browns Bay and we have been frequenting it for a number of years. The food is amazing with a very good menu. The atmosphere is friendly, efficient and happy, with John as a wonderful welcoming host. While in the...Level 3 + (or whatever it is supposed to be) we have had a couple of click and collect meals which have been delicious. I usually choose a pasta, my husband a Scalloppine dish. Last night I chose the Salmon and Asparagus Lasagna for the first time and it was absolutely superb. The very best Lasagna that I have had. My husband chose the Fungi Beef Scalloppine which he thoroughly enjoyed. We also had a Chocolate/Orange Cheesecake and a Limoncello Cheesecake, also delicious. I can't speak highly enough of this Restaurant and delicious food.More

A very pleasant experience. What lovely change to be served by a young man who did not feel the need to say "awesome, cool, or not a problem" even once during the time he served us. He had a lovely way about him, which added...to a very enjoyable evening. Both my husband and I enjoyed our meals, he had the pork dish, I had the spaghetti. Both quite adequate in size, I ordered a salad which I didn’t really need. The wine was really good and went well with both our meals. Sadly we didn’t get to sample the deserts as we were too full! Would definitely return to try out the other dishes on the menu.More

We enjoyed the relaxed and quiet atmosphere which allowed us time to talk with our friends who came with us. The service was good and carried out in a relaxed manner. The food we ordered was well priced and enjoyed by all. We did feel...if we had the option of more parmesan and or more pepper if would of enhanced our pasta. Also whilst the salad was good the balsamic dressing we received could have been better. All in all it was a pleasant relaxing evening with good food. Our friends and ourselves enjoy the quality wine and purchase we go to BYO restaurants to drink same. The restaurants corkage of $9.00 dollars a bottle is the most we have been charged in our local area which was a negative to a good evening. We realise this is a restaurant by restaurant decision but when we can eat similar food at similar prices and pay between zero and $5.00 per bottle at other local restaurants we wonder if we will return.More

Tried Piatti restaurant in Waiake for first time last night and was impressed. Started with warm, homemade ciabatta bread with olives and dips - yummy! Husband had fish of the day (terakihi) and I had nonna’s pasta bake. Both delicious. Too full for dessert though...tempted by special of day, chocolate pudding😊. Licensed and byo, not too noisy and good parking outside. We’ll be going back!More
