Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We ordered battered fish and chips. When I cut through the batter I discovered perfectly cut chunks of tuna which had come from the Tuna Factory down the road. Not a pleasant experience.

There are not many restaurants in that little historic town. The best and most friendly is the Whale Tale. It was recommended to me by my hosts from the Levuka Homestay. Try their traditional offers. I had fried fish fresh from the sea in front with taro a spinach like local green vegetable in cocoscreme sauce and aubergines accompanied by filling cassava fritters with onions. The kind owner Helen was a treasure trove of Information about seafood cooked Fiji style.

Great people as all Fijians are, low level product do not waste your money Very poor island and no infrastructure - no seats no sunbeds or sun chairs (that are actually usable) Lunch was sub standard

What can I say ... one word delicious! Yes, well priced local food with a western twisted. The food is reasonably priced and the staff are wonderfully friendly.

The food is basic, but well prepared. Things do take a while to arrive - but relax, you are in Fiji! Their smoothies are to die for, and the fish could not be fresher. I was surprised that tuna can be white - it is almost purple when raw, in New Zealand. The chips are great too. Ratatouille is more like a stir fry with tomato and garlic sauce, but it is very tasty!

Lovely sailing experience on an old schooner.Staff were friendly but not always good in explaining the booking or transport.but we got there anyway.Breakfast on board was disappointing although the fruit was excellent.sailed to a small deserted island and did some snorkeling.very disappointing .we hoped this would be pristine...but not so...not advised for good coral and sealife.lunch was average ,normal food...the sailing was actually the fun part.there must be better snorkeling trips available?

I was walking by and felt drawn in by the natural island atmosphere. The staff and owner (mother Elena and daughters) were Fijian and really lovely. Really professionally run but also simply down to earth. Evening meals great ... I always had the fish and casava chips ... local food ... so yummy and filling! Lunch time you can also get great value sandwiches. Elena and her extended family run a great place. Thanks again! Ben W

Thanks to Helen and Mele, and other staff, for making us feel welcome in Levuka. There's a wide range of food here - the omelettes are great - and the scones look awesome. Don't come here and expect New York service - Levuka is very relaxed, and the Whale's Tale is great place to chill out and watch the community around you. It's on the pricy side, but worth it for the atmosphere. We had dinner here too - good.

Very affordable food, more like a takeaway, can allow for drinks from outside. Very decent Fijian food, affordable Recommend if there's no open diner around however it's very cheap food, both traditional Fijian, Indian n Chinese food. Affordable food when all restaurants are both within.

I have travelled to Levuka several times and have eaten at the Whale's Tale...Their variety is extensive and the quality of meals excellent. Have had curries, chinese, fish dishes and have always loved every bite. The ladies who run the Whale's Tale are friendly, eager to please and each meal is served beautifully. Thank you Whale's Tale for a terrific cuisine experience..!!! Lesley Ellis

Outside the restaurant it looks like a hole in the old, unpainted and tired wooden wall and it is! The food is prepared by the owning lady and with her niece. The restaurant has no alcohol licence but BYO (there is a supermarket two doors away on the same side which sell chilled wine and beer). We were a party of five including regulars and all had different dishes all very tasty and at a fantastic low price. Highly recommended

We ate here two nights in a row last month and enjoyed it immensely both times. I guess the stand out meal was the fish in coconut cream but everything we tried was good. It has a great atmosphere and the staff are friendly.

Service and cuisine are unformal and you just feel like home... Tasty and generous plates such as fidjian curry and sweet/sour chicken. Great chat with the owner, a must do in Levuka!
