The food is cheap and comes out fast. It's not the best food and could be more flavorful but for the price and convenience I don't mind. I usually get the popcorn chicken bento box, which comes with a good amount of chicken and rice and some sides. The sides aren't that great, you get tofu, some pickled veggies and a fish ball. There is very limited seating and when its busy you are sitting very close to the other tables, so I suggest takeout if that makes you uncomfortable. I would go again and try other things on their menu as they have a lot of options available.

This is a small sit down (or take out) restaraunt. The place was full when we arrived and we were asked to leave our phone number so that they could call when a table was ready. Less than 10 minutes later we received a call... i have waited much longer at larger establishments. Our food came to the table quite quickly and everything was to our liking. The dishes were a little small but the prices were lower and I believe more than balanced out the portion sizes. For a party of 4 people our total with 20% tip was still under $78! Our children ate everything including the garnish! lol No complaints here about Papa Changs! Kids can be picky so this does say a lot about the food here. I am not sure where the bad reviews are coming from... the service was great when we were there, Perhaps as our party size was not too lage it was easier to accomodate us? As this is a small restaraunt I am not so sure that I would attempt to bring a large party here.

The food is amazing and I was surprised at the cheap prices. I would suggest getting takeout instead since there is not a lot of seating.

Our family went for lunch. They are child friendly, the service is quick, and the food is amazing. My husband lived in Taiwan for 2 years and says the food is truly authentic. Highly recommend. Debit/cash only.

My child has food allergies and was not allowed to eat food that was brought in that he could safely eat.
We were a big party of 10 people, it’s not like we were not ordering food from the restaurant but their actions of not letting a child eat his own food because of food allergies basically forced us to leave the restaurant.
The manager at the store, Jojo, was rude and unprofessional.
Do not go!

DO NOT GO TO PAPA CHANG’S at Markham Rd and 16th
Today, a group of 13 of us went to Papa Chang for lunch. I inquired about food ingredients for my child who has life threatening allergies to eggs, dairy, and nuts.
Waiter’s first response, “oh so many allergies ar”. Then it comes down to “we cannot guarantee there is no eggs in the food”.
My mommy brain had to come up with plan b, so I went to nearby restaurant and brought back something safe for my child to eat.
The waitress Jojo who later claims to be the acting manager of the restaurant pointed to a sign at the door that says “NO outside food is allowed” and told me I can’t bring food from outside.
Me: my child has food allergies and he cannot eat your food.
Jojo: you can’t bring outside food. if every customer brings food in we can’t do business.
Me: Not every customer, we have a party of 13 and one child has food allergies, he cannot eat your food, and he is hungry.
Jojo: this is the policy here.
Me: then can you promise there is no eggs in your food?
Jojo: we can’t promise. We cannot help you.
My child and I left Papa Chang’s.
Friends, if you have a baby, you could bring baby food to a restaurant. If you have physical accessibility needs, restaurant would be equipped with ramps or elevators.
A child with life threatening food allergies should be respected and accommodated. This is basic human rights.
Papa Chang’s is the worst restaurant I have encountered.

I am sure the posting by this aged and seasoned Baby-Boomer will evoke quite a few laughter among some of our millennial members for being so passé and antiquated? Since its opening in 2012, "PaPa Chang's" has become a popular and go-to place for younger generations in search of delicious, affordable and homey Taiwanese snacks and food. Sadly, it was only last week that I was made aware of its existence! Sigh!
As one who has savored a fair share of interesting, tasty and exotic food in my life time…..from Haute Cuisine in Michelin star rated gastronomic temples to finger-licking, funky and exotic delicacies in curb-side outfits, hawker stalls, food streets and hole-in-the-wall places around the world. The list of my culinary favorites is long and endless. However, way up on that list are good, authentic Taiwanese street food and snacks…..Tiny bowl of tasty Ta-a or Danzi noodles, Tofu topped with thousand year eggs, pork meat floss, oyster sauce and sesame oil, Crispy and chewy Oyster omelet, Multi-dimensional Braised beef soup noodles, Taiwanese red sausages etc….to name a few.
This evening, a few of us made the long track east to this highly anticipated destination. My first impression of this eatery was that, for the supposedly delicious food it offers and its huge popularity, this hole-in-the-wall sure is small and cramped?! At 6.00pm, the place was already packed with patrons waiting in the rain outside. Our phone number was taken by one of the staff to which they will call us once there are vacancies available. Thankfully, turn-over was brisk and our wait time was around 15 minutes. ( make sure your entire party is present or they will NOT sit you! )
From an interesting and varied menu that featured both authentic as well as fusion Japanese/Taiwanese specials, we picked a whole slew of mostly tapas size snacks and dishes.....including some funky, intriguing and exotic fare! These include:
- Taiwanese Red Sausages
- Rice topped with the iconic ‘ braised mince pork ‘, soy
marinated egg and pickled mustard greens on rice.
- Braised pig’s intestine oyster vermicelli soup.
- Meat floss egg pan cake wrap.
- Curry Beef with rice.
- Green onion pan cake.
- Skewer Chicken.
- Deep fried salted squid balls.
- Par boiled Taiwanese cabbage with minced pork sauce.
- Deep fried tofu with Taiwanese picked mustard greens.
- Marinated Beef Shank Sesame Flat Bread Wrap.
{ photos posted of above dishes are in sequential order }
Apart from the so-so Curry Beef, every other dishes we ordered were praise worthy and delightfully tasty and ‘different ‘. My favorite’s being:
- the flavorful, tender yet chewy braised pig’s intestine.
- the crispy skin, super moist and chewy fried squid balls.
Delightful seasoning and texture.
- the perfectly timed crispy skin and velvety smooth tofu,
with a surprisingly tasty dipping sauce.
- the funky skewer chicken that was coated with yet
another crispy and different batter coating. The trio
of wasabi/mayo/teriyaki sauce drizzled on top
was a delectable masterful touch!
- Scallion pancakes were super thin and light. Again, the
accompanying dipping sauce was delicious and different.
……and the praise can go on and on?!
With each of us dishing out less than $20 per person ( all inclusive of tax and tips ) and getting stuffed on the aforementioned 11 dishes. This place is indeed AFFORDABLE!
Since this time, our party of four only managed to cover less than 1/10th of the menu. That leaves us plenty of excuses for multiple re-visits!
Highly recommended……if one doesn’t mind the drive and wait!

If I can leave zero stars, I will leave zero stars. I usually never leave reviews for restaurants let alone a restaurant I haven't even eaten in. I just had the most mortifying and embarrassed experience in my life ever today and will not be coming to this restaurant ever again. I was going to meet my friend there for dinner today. I walked in as would any other restaurant, told the server I need a table for two. The guy never asked me or told me anything and pointed me to a table for two. I sat down since I was a bit early I looked at the menu and then started to look at my phone while I waited for my friend. Then the server looked at me and asked where my friend is, I told him she's coming. Only at that point he mentioned that they don't sit people down until the whole party is here. He never mentioned it when he sat me down. So as luck would have it my friend was late so I decided I would order first. The server won't even let me order!!! I said if my friend is not coming and I'm eating alone you will still give me the same table, which is true they do not have tables for one. The server I insisted not to take my order and said some illogical thing about if my friend comes it will take us longer to eat. There isn't any sign restricting how long you can stay and eat there at all. Sure enough a couple came through the door and they kicked me out of my table where I had already been sitting to give that table to that couple. I have never been treated worse ever at a restaurant. I ended up storming out and when my friend came we went somewhere else. Don't ever come here to eat if you want to be treated like a decent human being! You can get better customer service eating at a food court than eating here.

Been to Taiwan multiple times and I have great affection. Small (and pretty much full, get there early), authentic food and good selection. Even Japanese choices (did not try). Beef signature soup was nice, quality ingredients. good value, will be back.

We've came here a few times for dinner when I feel like popcorn chicken and Taiwanese food. It's always delicious at a good price point. Besides popcorn chicken, we also order the pork rice and the vege dish. Would recommend!

Taiwan food restaurant. Very limited seating so I recommend to arrive before 6:00pm.
Waitress recommend the popcorn chicken. Taiwan style noodles and a bento box.
Lots of take out so it is a good sign ! Will be back to try other dishes'

I went there with a friend who recommended it. I like Taiwanese food, I have been to Taipei 3x and have enjoyed a number of night markets there (and daytime food stands... with the exception of the stinky tofu I like Taiwanese food in general). The soup was ok. I guess I was expecting a lot more in terms of flavour. We ordered two appetizers to go with it... a plate of squid balls that was ok, and a plate of skewered chicken (breaded, with some special sauces dripped on them) that were Delicious. It is cheap, not fancy... go there with low expectations and work your way through the menu. I noticed though it was a weeknight, that it filled up by 7pm and there was a flow of folks ordering takeout as well. The entire time we dined, I noticed I was the only non-asian there - which in my books is a very good thing :) I think I would increase the rating when I discover more dishes I am really excited about. Will bring my asian wife next time, she'll pick off good things I am sure. Cheap eats. Relax, bring kids or a friend. Parking is ok... NW corner of 16th and hw48 (main street markham)

I came in for the taiwanese popcorn chicken that a friend had bought for me before. My order was ready in 5 minutes and the chicken was flavorful and incredibly moist and tender. I can't even describe what it tastes like- it's just a really delicious savory flavor. I gave some to some friends at work and everybody was crazy about it. Next time I will try some more of their dishes - definitely check it out if you have the opportunity
