A great find, excellent food, great service

Cafe Hung Viet has a great atmosphere, the interior is warm and inviting with mellow coloured brick walls and stylish yet comfortable furniture. We were a table of five and ordered a range of tasty dishes to share which excelled our expectations. First we had crispy rice flour coated squid which was very tender and served with a very tasty dipping sauce as well as a plate of amazing coated prawns. The mains were all superb and came with an abundance of very fresh salad greens with julienned carrots, peppers, spring onions etc. We had a fantastic half duck that had been marinated in soy sauce,galangai, lemon grass and chilli, a large savoury pancake with prawn and pork belly and fish marinated in turmeric with noodles and green beans. No room for dessert this time but we will definitely be back for more Vetnamese delights next time we visit Devonport.

This is a small restaurant with seating inside and out on the footpath so it would pay to book. We had both the fresh and fried spring rolls to start and then shared three main dishes and fresh veg. This was enough for four and very tasty. Service was slow but not a long wait for food to come out.

Fresh and flavourful

Takes me back to Vietnam! Wonderful hospitality, quick service, lovely & attentive staff. We really enjoyed our shared plates, the superbly fresh salads complement the very authentically flavoured meat. We had shared plates - fresh spring rolls, chicken skewers, a couple of pork dishes... and then couldn’t say no to dessert! BYO license appreciated. A great night out.

Left wanting more.....

A bright but chilly July day in Devonport & at first found the restaurant very cold inside but the obliging staff soon sorted that problem. We were a party of 11 and everyone found the food "fresh, light, delicious" ... very much to their liking. I must have ordered the wrong thing - as my $26+ dish of fried pork slices in a broth, with side-noodles, fried spring roll & token salad leaves JUST WASN'T ENOUGH to fill me up! Delicious but insufficient. Whilst the rest of the party had finished, I had to order something else to eat, in order to go home satisfied! I will give them another try in a few months time. Worth a visit.

friendly service and good food

We are on a visit from Australia and was taken to this friendly restaurant by kiwi our friends who live locally . It was convenient to us following a movie at the delightful Vic cinema. The service was very friendly and the food was good . We enjoyed the share plates of spring rolls, pork buns, shaking beef, chicken skewers , vegetables and the pancake. Perfect amount for four of us.

Disappointing

As first-time visitors we tried three favourites from other Vietnamese restaurants: salt & pepper dill squid; fried spring rolls, and tiger prawn cutlets with green rice coating. The squid was tough and chewy. The prawn cutlets seemed to be coated in breakfast rice-bubbles and had been so inadequately peeled we had chunks of shell in each mouthful. The fried spring rolls were nice. Overall, very disappointing and expensive considering the very poor quality. We do not recommend it.

Terrible service

We did not get to eat the food here. The staff member first ignored us, then reluctantly seated us at a table. She then proceeded to talk loudly on the phone for the next 15 minutes. We waved to her that we would like to order, but once again were ignored. We walked out, should probably have walked out when we were first ignored. Won't be back.

Still as good as ever

Ha has a wonderful restaurant. The food is tasty and very authentic. We haven’t had her food for ages and it’s we’ll repeat it again. Especially love the crispy pancake. Reasonable price for takeaway and good quality food

Nice lunch in Devenport

A nice experience having lunch at an outdoor table on a lovely street in Davenport, a short ferry from Auckland. Typical Vietnamese dishes were very tasty and presented nicely.

Delicious food and great service

My partner & I ate their on Sat night following a recommendation by a neighbour. The food was great as was the service. Only slight negative was the wine selection, which was poor.

Vietnamese in Devonport

I love Vietnamese food. Especially pho. I was happy that I have found a Vietnamese restaurant at walking distance. Unfortunately everything we have ordered were tasteless. The service was good though.

Small dishes

Have been here a number of times since it opened. Quality good, but dishes are small and padded out with salad stuff. You will end up ordering more to satisfy, and the cost higher than anticipated. On my last and recent visit the lamb shoulder was half inedible gristle.
