Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The barramundi fish is the freshest fish ever. Really recommend trying it. The sauce is top notch. Very friendly staff and the chef cooks the best fish and really showcase how fresh the fish is. @sciona_food

My husband and I had lunch at this wonderful location. He had thai style barramundi spring rolls and I had sizzling garlic prawns for entree. The prawns really did sizzle. For main course I had one piece of barramundi with chips and salad and my husband had 2 pieces of baked barramundi with chips and salad. The food was delious served by friendly, efficient staff.

We called up on a Tuesday and although they aren’t normally open on Monday or Tuesday, they said we could come for lunch as they had a tour group in. So it’s worth calling up even if they are closed that day just in case! Barramundi was delicious and the service couldn’t have been more friendly. They took us in to see the pet barramundi in the tanks which our baby loved. Gluten free options and a good kids menu too.

We didn't do a tour, but we went for lunch which was pleasant but the prices were a little high for a lunch menu, and we walked away spending as much as we would on a dinner. The portion of Barramundi for our main was 1 small piece, but saying that it's fine if you don't eat much. I would recommend just buying the full Barramundi, as you get a whole fish for the same price. Lovely location though..very relaxing, and we enjoyed watching the fish swim around in the front pond :)

For $12, there is a tour that runs twice a day to see the farm. Make sure to book for this as they don’t take walk-ins. The farm tour was so much fun, seeing the tiniest barramundi to those that can be eaten. The farm then sells them to the restaurant; true farm to table. The restaurant is fantastic, I had the combo meal of barra bites and salt and pepper calamari - the serving size is generous. Bookings essential if you want an outdoor table, ask for a table by the ramp if you want to watch people feeding the koi.

Talk about a place that provides a total package. You can go on a extremely informative tour of the barramundi farm here. We had the pleasure of having the owner give us the tour of the place. We found him very warm, friendly and full of interesting information. He passed the tour onto another of his staff after a while you also was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. After the tour you can eat at there restaurant that offers a wide range of meals which we found to be delicious. Highly recommended you stop by and see this place.

you will never know if you never have a go. This restaurant with a kitsch sounding name was highlighted on Trip Advisor...so we thought we would give it a go. Soooo pleased we did. Amazing food prepared with love and attention. Could not have been fresher as the source was in the huts next door. We enjoyed garlic prawns to open then my wife's Thai style Fried whole barramundi was a winner for her. I had the large sized Barra , salad and chips...excellent. Ate on the large balcony on a very pleasant day. Was a very quiet meal !!! Highly recommended and we will definitely visit again.

The cuisine at Cookabarra is not 5-star but the fish is absolutely delicious. And why wouldn’t it be - they’re farmed on site. Straight from the pond (not tank) to the skillet, then onto your plate; you can’t get any fresher than that. If you have time go on the tour (11am and 2pm, $10pp). You’ll learn about fish lifecycle and behaviour, farm economics, sustainable acqua-farming practices and much, much more. They’ve even got hydroponic veggies. Totally worth it.

Great restaurant. Awesome meals. Lovely peaceful location. Very fresh seafood and very tasty Barra. Staff very attentive. They provide fish food for the kids to feed the koi, which is a fun touch. We would recommend this place to anyone!

What a refreshing experience! Sitting on a wide open verandah, surrounded by a moat full of Japanese carp & overlooking gardens eating an array of delicious Barramundi chosen from the array of other Australian dishes. This is a Barramundi Farm so the fish is as fresh as & cooked beautifully. I've been twice now & both times the dishes have been delicious. Plenty of parking too & even 2 Disabled parking spots, although the signs need upgrading. I highly recommend this restaurant especially for visitors to the area.

The surroundings were perfect a moat with fish swimming. The food took a little time to arrive but was well presented and really nice to eat. We didn't want a large meal so ordered the Kids lunch, it was still plenty to eat and the coffee was very nice too.

Support sustainable local farming and enjoy the freshest barramundi you are ever likely to eat. Beautifully tranquil setting with great food and friendly hosts. Do take part in the tour before or after lunch which will truly make you appreciate buying local and the difference in taste when you eat straight from the water or garden as opposed from restaurants where produce has to travel distances to your table.

Wonderful lunch with friends on the wide, open, breezy & COVID friendly deck. Entree of Garlic Prawns were beautiful, as was the main course of The Combi - luscious Barra pieces coated in the lightest of batter, as were the Squid rings, with a superb home made tartare sauce & the best chips ever! Coffee could be improved upon, but overall a lovely & enjoyable lunch. Will be back for sure.

The entrees we had were ok nothing great. We had osters kilpatrick, too much of a tomato taste, thai fish cakes were good, the barramundi spring rolls pretty bland. The mains were divine! Barramundi poached in seafood broth, excellent. The combo calamari and cocktail barramundi was delicious, the green thai curry barramundi was lovely. Big serves. Desserts were not great, homemade tiramisu tasted bland, dry and not palatable. The home made creme brulee had no flavour either. The barramundi was fantastic food but the entrees and desserts were not as good as Ive had before. Worth a visit.

why did we wait so long to go this place.... all of our family have been there and kept advising us to try it out. thank goodness we did on our trip to nelson bay last month. such a hidden gem. the garden setting is lovely and the restaurant has a fish pond surrounding the deck which feels very calm. we enjoyed the tour and learnt so much about sustainable fish production. we enjoyed a fabulous lunch of prawn/ginger dumplings and the asian style barramundi whole fish. sensational
