Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nicki,Brad & Team, WOW what can we say about our experience with you, the food and service we received was truly amazing and we would not hesitate to recommend to others. The outdoor venue was truly stunning and all of the wedding guests were blown...away with the food and presentation. Brad very kindly made a special request wedding cake, so thank you so much. All the best for the future. RuMore

The iced coffee and chocolate were not iced..chocolate drink..only tasted of milk..sent back and they just stirred more chocolate powder into it..the powder was still floating on the top.. Eggs Benedict bread was basically 1 stale bread role warmed up.. 2 of us had that..we...mentioned it to the waiter who said he would pass it on, but nothing was done. Apparently fish was overcooked but tasted nice, even though my 1 friend didn't eat it. Then I paid for my meal and said we were not happy with the meals and she just said she was sorry to hear that.. A few days later we were accused for not paying for 1 of the meals, my friend was being harassed about this, So I called and told them we absolutely paid, infact at the end I was told there was just 1 wine left to be paid for, which I paid for.. I wont be pleased if I have to get my friends bank statements to prove this.. We are locals and used to go frequently but lately the quality and service has drastically gone down hill and we will be taking our custom elsewhere in future which is very sad.. good customer service is just not difficult.. I have frequented the Grape Escape on numerous occasions and I always enjoy it there. A friend and I wanted to get together for a pre-Christmas catch up yesterday so I booked a table, specifically asking if we could be on the veranda (in case...it rained). When I arrived, we had been booked to sit on the deck, not the veranda which wasn't a good start. We enjoyed a very nice meal and then asked to look at the dessert/drinks menu. A few minutes later a waitress arrived at our table saying we had to leave now as the table was booked for someone else! We were both quite shocked by this. No one had mentioned when I booked nor when we were seated at the table. When questioned all we got back was that the next people were there and we had to go. Not a great end to what was supposed to be a happy occasion. We were not impressed.More

Probably the best food we’ve had in a long time. We had the braised mushrooms and the pullled pork both absolutely gorgeous. We followed up with marshmallow mud cake and caramel cake with a lovely pot of hot English Breakfast tea. Amazing! Nice surroundings, great...service and a friendly but unobtrusive resident cat completed a perfect afternoon. I have one piece of feedback that may be viewed as negative but it isn’t and I’m conflicted about giving it because I hope they don’t do anything about it. Maybe the portions were just a bit too big? We both left feeling absolutely stuffed. But it was great food it was early in the day and maybe we’ll go for a nice long walk later. We cannot recommend this place highly enough. Loved it!More

I normally don't like to write a review. But I need to write this one. The cafe is actually has nice setting, but that's about it. I order Breaki but was average, bacon and sausage overcooked. The one thing that ruined my day was I...order this birthday cake a day before our booking and expecting a soft and a fluffy cake, but instead we have this hard and half frozen cake, all my friends looks each other and disbelieved, frozen cake?? Very disappointed, I thought my friends struggle to eat their cake. Disappointing as it was also overpriced. I wouldn't go back in a hurry.More

I am never disappointed in my visits to the grape escape cafe. Nikki and Dean (the owners and whom also work apart of the team at Grape Escape) go above and beyond to ensure the environment, food and people are enjoyed by all. Staff are...polite and happy, always fresh flowers from their garden on the tables. Food is fresh and full of flavour. It’s a lovely spot, location and layout. Lots of space for garden dining too!! Thank you Grape Escape team for providing Nelson/Tasman with a A+ cafe!More

We had such a lovely meal. On a rainy Nelson day. They had the heaters on inside and it was wonderfully toasty and warm. I had the gorgeous marinated seafood salad, my friend had the Caesar Salad with salmon which he thought was delicious and...my mother had the eggs Benedict which they served on their own homemade English muffins. Which were so delicious. Such a lovely cafe and great staff. We will definitely be back. And soon.More

I've been here too many times, only because there are so few options for a weekend lunch in the Nelson area. I'm always left disappointed, but after today, I've vowed never again. The food and service are consistently mediocre. Today's visit we had floury, tasteless...chips with out-of-the-squeeze-bottle aioli, and a lame 'seafood' chowder (I found one tiny piece of prawn meat) with sliced shop-bought sourdough half done in a toaster. The fact this place is so busy speaks volumes about the lack of options in Nelson; it's a lazy place that successfully trades on the fact it has tables out in a garden, there's nowhere else to go around here for lunch, and most people here don't seem to know the difference between quality food and the same old average fare. And it doesn't even have the virtue of being cheap.More

We called on our daily cafe hunt and found Grape Escape to be quite popular. The cabinet food on offer was different from most cafes as it included such tempting offings like cheesecakes and gorgeous cakes, The coffee and chai were very good, as was...the extremely delicious food. Sadly, the difference between giving this a 4 rating and a 5, is that we found the service practically "smileless," almost as if the staff weren't enjoying being there. A smile or two really does make a difference. Still, I do believe we'd return if we have the chance.More
