We had a quick dinner here recently & loved it. My vegetarian GF partner had lots of options & the staff were really helpful with her choices. I had the pork belly raman which was delicious & we're keen to go back to try other...options. Great spot!More

We as a family often struggle with our vegetarians, pescatarians and omnivores to find a restaurant that not only meets our specific eating requirements but also manages to be fabulous too.......best described as Japanese and Maori fusion with a strong emphasis on local produce, Izakai...more than met the brief. Warmly welcomed and the menu explained we set about choosing several dishes which arrived in a timely manner, looked fantastic and tasted even better all of which created a truely positive memorable evening. Not fine dining but also not very expensive I have no hesitation in recommending but caution you not to be put off by its slightly odd location of outside Bayfair shopping mall. Go, you will enjoy.More

The pork belly Ramen is super delicious! Two of us have the pork belly ramen. The pork belly is crispy. Definitely recommend!

Next level good! The lamb rump with boil up reduction was delicious and unique. The smoked eggplant underneath the lamb tasted like the smell of the Izakaya I visited whilst in Tokyo! So full of flavour.

This was a last minute decision to go out for something to eat and chose somewhere we’d never been. OMG, what a find. We didn’t book but were lucky to be seated by very friendly staff. The menu is small as is the drinks menu....What can I say, EVERYTHING we ordered was incredible. Not a single bad dish (6 in total I think). The paua and prawn dumplings are a must. $130 for two including drinks is good value. We will certainly be going back and spreading the word.More

We had tried Izakai when it had first opened and left having an OK meal but not rushing back. Last night we decided to give it another go and we are so glad we did. The host staff were very friendly and professional. From the...moment we walked in we knew it was going to be good. The food was nothing short of perfect! perfect portion sizes, balanced flavors and presented beautifully. We chose about 5 different dishes and left feeling full but not stuffed. It was nice to see top shelf utensils and glasses to perfectly suit the beverage. When I went to pay the bill, I actually believed that something had been missed off as it was so well priced. We paid $110 for two people including drinks which is fantastic value for the dishes we ordered. I left so impressed and couldn't believe it was the same restaurant we dined at last year and walked away unsatisfied. I cant wait to go back soon and experience it all again. I would have to say it was close to one of the best meals we have eaten in Tauranga. 10/5! Thank you.More

The food here was excellent. Atmosphere was also good and service impeccable. We eat out quite a lot and it was the best food we have had in a long time.

This fantastic restaurant is next to a shopping centre - but don't be concerned! The food is interesting and delicious and fantastic service. We had the avocado bread, ramen and pork and fish with miso. All delicious.

We have dined here a few times now. My husband and I had our date night here a couple of weeks ago and had the tasting menu. Our minds were blown to the point I actually stopped and thanked the chefs (which I dint often...do). The food was by far the nest I’d had in Tauranga for a very long time! Well on par with foods we’ve eaten in top restaurants. Will be back soon!More

Hi Dregtok, Initially the menu was dreamed up by our owners while travelling through Asia, starting with Pork and Watercress and going from there. Luckily we then found our fantastic Head Chef Andy who brought ideas on paper... More
