Have heard of Johneys dumplings for a while so definitely wanted to try them. Because of covid we were told on arrival that all ordering had to be done online via a app. So we had problems with that. The app wasnt straight forward so...we were initially trying to order at a completely different restaurant. Not sure how that happened. Also there was a lot of staff around so this form of ordering really put me off. We ordered dumplings, tacos and gravy chips and the chips were the only enjoyable part really. The chicken in the tacos tasted fishy n we weren't able t0 finish them also the dumplings were too meaty and the vegetarian option wasn't nice either. Probably won't go backMore

Came across a news article mentioning how great was their dumplings, so I had to visit. First disappointment was that I couldn't mix different types of dumplings, e.g. beef + lamb. So, I ordered the lamb one. When it was here, 'WHY WAS IT DEEP...FRIED!' I had dumplings for decades, I was even fed by people with homemade dumplings whose hometowns had dumplings for their main meals a few times a week. Right, then I asked them if they had vinegar. No vinegar! I told them one of the proper ways to have dumplings was to have vinegar, other than chilli oil. They had a wide variety of their own beer which was a plus.More

Came here for a light lunch and sat outside on a glorious, sunny day. We had a mixture of steamed pork/prawn dumplings and pan fried pork/veg dumplings with a chilli and a aioli sauce - the latter was far tastier. Obviously we had a couple...of craft beers to wash them down. It was quieter than previous visits.More

The dough is super thick, so I'm not a fan of them steamed... but I do love the fried ones and also the BBQ pork buns are great!

Maybe I'm spoiled by the high quality dumplings I get in Auckland. I was told this was the best in Tauranga region. Generous portions, good price, however the dough was far too thick, the filling needed seasoning, any seasoning, there was none. The dipping sauce...choices were disappointing too. Great you have a range but no choice includes the soy sauce vinegerette of traditional dumpling places. I get this wasn't meant to be authentic but needs tweaking to make me return.More

What a busy busy night. Live music, drinks and food. The service was a bit slow but the staff were nice and the food was good, not amazing. The dumplings got cold very quickly. But overall a nice night out.

If you are vegetarian or a meat lover the dumpling here are amazing. Johnnys chilli sauce is the best ever. Often has entertainment on the weekend. Combine your dumplings with a craft beer and you have a match made in heaven.

A very relaxed venue with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. Right next to a big green grass park where kids can run around a kick a football while parents are relaxing
