This is a caravan, or perhaps more properly described as a food truck parked on the road in Waikawa. It’s run by two local ladies serving essentially good quality fish and chips and some burgers. Their shop (which is a more conventional building) also sells...ice creams, lollies, fruit and the like. But it’s the fish and chip venture that brings people into what passes for a settlement. Really the only other thing here is the museum. We had blue cod and chips and that was great. Ate them sitting in the car as there was a bit of a biting wind at the time, and others were in the old bus shelter where there was a table to assist diners. Overall a good experience.More

Fantastic fresh fish with a nice light batter (we had the blue cod). My son had a plain burger which looked great, but it may be worth noting a 10 year oldest definition of plain does not include lettuce or beetroot - really that's his...problem. Chips were good but the portions weren't big.More

We were staying in an Airbnb next door and wandered over to get lunch from this quirky little caravan. Great service and friendly owner who was on her own but was managing many orders with good humour. Our meals were perfectly cooked and delicious, we...had a hamburger, whitebait sandwich and blue cod, nothing better with a wine in plastic glasses, outside in the sunshine overlooking the harbour. Will definitely go again next trip.More

Neat place to stop for lunch. We found them on tripadvisor and made it point to stop in. They were out of bluefish as most places in New Zealand have been. She gave us another choice that was great. Is it small, Yep. Limited seating,...yep. worth a look, yep. I would recommend trying to stop in.More

My wife and I stayed in Waikawa for three nights because my wife was a guest artist at the Edge of the World Art Exhibition being held there. The chips were very good and the blue cod was cooked to perfection in excellent batter. I've...caught and eaten a lot of blue cod over many years, but I don't remember eating any cod that tasted better than what we were served from this cute caravan.More

Went there for the first time last year, and now we always stop at Blue Code Blues for a fish and chips and real fruit ice cream. (The curry roll is also superb😉) Great food and service!!!

We bought fish and chips, battered mussels and ice cream here. Not necessarily cheap, but everything was really tasty.

Stopped for lunch- couldn’t go past the whitebait fritter which was a great choice. Gianormous whitebait fritter so big it had to be folded into half to fit between 2 slices of fresh white bread, full of whitebait. The chips we shared were great too....The tourists at the next picnic table thought their blue cod and chips were great too. Love the gift shop behind the caravan- our granddaughter loved the wee owl dress we bought her, made by the owner. Well worth stopping. Great museum a few metres down the road.More

This well known fish and chips kiosk is located along the Catlins coast road and offers a nice snack or lunch during certain days in the week. The place is a kind of picknick area with some shelter.
