Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely rustic spot, lots of charm with open fire. Sadly the food was dreadful. I had their homemade lamb curry pie expecting a tasty, crusty pie. Instead I got a microwaved, soggy pastry pie with indeterminate filling (no lamb identifiable). Disappointing as it had been...recommended by our holiday home host. It's not difficult to get a pie right!! Not worth the trip.More

Disappointing as we were recommended to come and left feeling confused about why this place is popular. Our food was very basic & expensive for what it was, garlic bread seemed to have bipassed the garlic & nachos were mainly corn chips with little topping....Also wouldn’t recommend the mussel chowder. Service and drinks were good however we won’t recommend to others or return sorry. Value for money and dining satisfaction were really average.More

Wicked spot for a beer. Great outdoor seating and superb atmosphere at a local icon. The house brewed beer was great both in terms of variety and quality. Only downside is their garlic bread was the pits, bloody awful stuff, burnt and flavourless.

Had the mussel stew. Too many tomatoes and very little mussels. Dessert was mediocre too. When we were there about three years ago , the food seemed to be better. Hope it will get to the previous times soon.

We had a lovely meal. Kiwi pub style with lots of local beers on tap and great food. Travelling with 6 year old. Big open fire keeping us warm. Large wooden tables to spread out on and a killer 3 scoop ice cream sundae to...finish. Open in August. Would be a lot of fun in summer as the garden is large.More

The Mussel Inn is an excellent choice for coffee, beer, and local cuisine. Of course, as the name suggests, mussels, when in season, are the best! We went on a Quiz Night and had a blast! A local favorite, but a must stop for anyone...in the area. It's been in business for 30 years and is a quaint and fun place to stop. Lot of entertainment scheduled throughout the week as well. Definitely a highlight of my New Zealand trip!More

Just had steamed mussels and garlic bread at the MI. The mussels were plain steamed mussels with wedges of lemon and sprinkled with parsley. They tasted ok but very plain. The garlic bread was burnt but it tasted ok. The pale whale ale was nice....It felt a bit manky like a pub that has a lot of weekend drinking. I wouldn’t come back.More

We don't mind if you bring a dog in, if you keep it on a leash at your outside table.
