We arrived suddenly, a sign on the side of the road was all the warning we got. We were with a local who was familiar with the Inn. An interesting little pub built by the previous owners from all sorts of materials scavenged off the beach. It started life as a bach but grew. The night we went was 'poetry... More

Driving towards Collingwood from Takaka and saw the sign, looked like a farm house and had to turn back to get in but well worth the stop. Great location and well set out, obviously a great place in the evening with band area set up and ready to go.There were no steamed mussels left so we shared a meal of... More

Well this place was a wee jem. The night we arrived it was quiz night and it was packed. Super fun night out. Great food and yes the mussels were great. No cell phone cover inside. Rustic and simple. What more could you ask for. (And we got 4th in the quiz )

Two fun evening spent here. With a pail of delicious, juicy mussels of course. Bonfire outdoors. One night was quiz night which was fun and although we were not locals felt very welcome.

We went to this place twice while staying nearby at Golden Bay. Food was very good and the atmosphere was special. Very casual, indoor/outdoor with an open fire going outside because the evening got a bit chilly. We were told it was a bit retro New Zealand. Whatever, we enjoyed it. Service was friendly. On some nights they have live... More

We stayed in the area for four nights and ate at the Mussel Inn on three of them. The home-brewed beer is excellent with a great variety of ales. The food is good, the surroundings rustic and the service first class. Regular music nights; we were lucky enough to be there on one of them (The Nukes from West Auckland,... More

Being a non-beer drinker, I'm probably not the best reviewer for this pub which obviously specialises in unusual beers, I went in the evening for a meal. The food was pretty good. Interestingly, there was fish with potatoes, not chips. And some nice salad. There were not a lot of customers and it felt a little empty for a pub.... More

We went here with family including 2 small children, and had a lovely lunch and experience. The children loved the big tyre swing and seeing the weka poking around the garden while we waited for our food. Some of us had the chowder and it was excellent with lovely crispy bread to accompany it. The mussels my husband had were... More

Nice place, friendly staff and good raw material, but what a deception to find that the stuff that gives name to the restaurant was available in two versions only: steamed and soup! Must say the steamed mussels were excellent, big and tasty, but we couldn't but imagine how they would taste with a sauce made with natural tomato, olive oil,... More
