Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was my second visit to this restaurant. I called up ahead to check if the restaurant was open for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, and if I can get the vegetarian pizza which I had enjoyed a few months earlier. The answer to both...questions was ‘yes’, so I arrived for lunch with my wife, en route from Karamea to Christchurch. The vegetarian pizza was as delightful as before. Paula was happy to make whatever adjustments needed to the ingredients. The fries were not piping hot when served, so not as good as the pizza. I will be happy to visit again, and to recommend this to anyone visiting Reefton or passing through.More

Finally a good experience! My experience with Alfresco eatery did not start well. Mr Google said it was open for lunch, so I drove 30 km from Grey Valley to have a decent lunch. “We don’t serve lunch,” I was told. But I was staying...overnight at Reefton so I came back in the evening for dinner, and a colleague too joined me. We had vegetarian pizza, which was delicious- accompanied by fries- which were good but perhaps un-needed.More

Dinner the night we arrived in Reefton. We walked past earlier trying to find out what time it opened. Could find nothing that let us know, so took pot luck that it would be open when we were ready for dinner. Shared a pizza. It...was nice and tasty, but took ages to come out. The sticky date pudding was ok (not the best I've had). Staff were friendly and it was warm.More

I had just arrived in Reefton on a Tuesday evening an wanted a quick bite to eat. The first place I came to was Alfresco’s. Not only did a quick pizza fit the bill perfectly, but there was a small but excellent range of flavours...and ingredients well done on a light and crispy base. All topped off with a surprisingly good range of house wine. What lifted the meal from good to great was the quiet enthusiasm my hostess had for providing a welcoming experience in the exceptional location of Reefton. It set the scene for a unexpectedly good visitMore

We found the pizza to be a very reasonable price, and delicious, dined outside, decor was nice, everything was clean and nice.

Friendly West Coast service, however basic food which is overpriced for the quality of food that is there. We had pizza that were from frozen bases that could be purchased from the supermarket.

I did fine early but enjoyed the quiet ambience of the indoor outdoor flow so refreshing. I ate deep fried camembert as an entree and John Dory fish for a maIn. Both were delicious and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The wine is...a very generous serve.More

Wandered right along Broadway looking for a rstaurant on a Saturday evening and came to Alfresco. 6 Adults and a 2 year old. My wife and I had been here a few years ago and had a totally stisfying experience. So we recommended this place...to the rest of our party. This turned out to be a big mistake. Shown to our table on the outdoor patio we were literally blown away every time the wind blew as the plastic curtains designed to protect us from the elements were torn and unable to be secured to the poles. The waitress, after presenting the drinks menu then advised us to help ourselves to the chiller in the bar area, useful when they were run off their feet by customers but there was only one other couple present. Their range of non-alcoholic soft drinks cosisted of Coke or Lemonade. So far so good. Food was ordered then we proceeded to wait over 45 minutes for poorly prepared and presented meals to turn up. All of us were envious of the 2 year olds fish and chips. The fish I had was crumbed Hoki from the supermarket, the cardboard pizza bases were virtually inedible and the fish basket was unbelievably poor. It was a delight to leave.More

Pleasantly surprised by a really good meal for a very reasonable price here! There only seemed to be a couple of members of staff working when we ate here (doing everything from taking orders to cooking and serving) but despite being busy they were very...friendly and the service was quick. Nice setting and chilled out (if slightly cheesy) Hawaiian-style live music. Small but good selection of beers.More

DO NOT eat here. Not sure if ownership has recently changed, but the food is terrible and disgusting. We ordered a pizza, a salad and a steak sandwich and we couldn’t eat any of it. We went to the supermarket and got a snack for...dinner instead. Food plus 2 beers was over $60. Pizza was worse than a frozen pizza and not even hot.More

Terrible asked for a gluten free meal it was like I spoke a foreign language . Waitress appeared and said off the whole menu I could have chicken salad . It arrived and was awful. Asked for lemon in a beer and they had none....Toilets were filthy. My friend had pizza with shriveled up mushrooms. Took forever to get a meal what a disgrace of a placeMore

My dad lives in Reefton and we live in Taupo! I called Alfrescos to ask if they would mind delivering fish and chips to my dad for his 75th birthday! Paula was so kind and extremely helpful and delivered fish and chips to my dad,...which he thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you so much. Highly recommend this place. Amanda, Willie and Zac.More

Aside from the appalling food, this place needs to get decent music especially over xmas and new year - same music on repeat for the past decade every single year - 1970s electric guitar. Yawn. Remember to take earplugs if you stay anywhere near this place.

This is the worst place I have ever eaten in NZ - even worse than the mince on toast on the Cook Strait ferry back in the early 80s. There is clearly no chef at Al Fresco. This place is run by the kitchen hands....Their only "cooking" skill appears to be turning on the oven and reheating precooked, precrumbed frozen fish or opening a tin of watery bean mix to tip on cold corn chips for Nachos. Then there is the curry....reheated gravy with tiny bits of rubbery meat sprinkled with packet curry powder. It's bad enough these guys are masquerading as a restaurant - they have the cheek to charge fine dining prices! Reheated frozen fish and chips was $25.50, watery, flavourless small bowl of nachos was $19.00 and the gravy mix with curry seasoning was $20. We left without dessert for fear it would be a Sara Lee special - and sadly I'm not even joking about that. This is the last time I go out for a meal without checking the reviews first...big, big mistake.More
