Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are a few cafes in Reefton, we took a look at them all. Reckon this place is the pick, a great find in a little place like Reefton. Home made sausage rolls - very good. Custard slice made with marscapone - very smooth. Recommend.

Quick coffee stop and we picked the right place. My latte was great but the macchiato was the best, and the custard square/slice was excellent according to my husband. Nice service and outdoor seating, bring your own cup and you get discount.

The young new owner was very friendly and keen to help. Even though she was busy, it was a very pleasant experience, and the food and coffee was excellent. It is certainly my preferred stop on my travels across the Southern Alps ! !

Sadly our second visit to this cafe was an entirely different one from our first and we wonder if there are new owners? Limited selection, offered to toast the pre made sandwiches in the cabinet for my young daughter but no option for a simple...ham and cheese toastie or similar. Lady in charge greeted us brusquely and was sarcastic when I checked if they were open as there was no one inside behind the counter. After our lunch the same lady was sucking on a cigarette outside the cafe which looked very unprofessional. No staff wearing masks. Wont be visiting next time we’re coming through, there are friendlier options.More

This is a little gem in Reefton. Great value for money. The food was delicious and very filling. The hot chocolate was hot, something you don't always get at other establishments. The service nice and friendly. A great place to stop for lunch.

Small selection of interesting lunch options, someone there clearly has a Californian cafe menu book from the mid-2000s. Tasty enough, but awful service. The young lady could not have been less interested in serving us or anyone else. There’s a batter option in Reefton up...the street on the same side. Go there instead.More

I always stop at Reef Cottage Cafe when passing through Reefton (and sometimes deviate just to come here). Guaranteed warm welcome and super fresh and imaginative food and choice of warm inside by the open fire or outside to watch the goings-on in the town....Highly recommendMore

That review fromm a grumpy Dunedin couple is from 2015, 6 years old. It should be removed as it is the exact opposite of my experience last week in the Cosy Cottage Cafe Reefton. Warm and inviting, Beautiful wooden interior with fire going. Excellent food...and coffee. Two of the most friendly and delightful ladies you would have the pleasure to meet. It will be featured on my Blog. russellsramble.comMore

We have just spent three nights in Reefton and had breakfast at the Reef Cottage Cafe every morning - I am coeliac and really appreciated the delicious gluten free French toast which I had every morning as I enjoyed it so much the first day...- it was beautifully presented with lots of yummy seasonal fruit. My husband had traditional bacon, eggs, tomato, hash brown etc and it also was delicious with a generous serving of bacon. This food was followed with excellent coffee all served by smiling, helpful staffMore
