Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very good experience. Clean. Warm, nice staff, great food, handy to centre of town. A tad expensive for food, but then everywhere Seems to be ….it was very good food

Can’t miss the pub when coming into town from the south-west. We searched town for vegan/vegetarian food options and found nothing so ended up at Dawson’s. On the lunch menu was a vegetarian burger with a quinoa patty and fries with a vegan sauce. $27.00...My husband and I were hungry after hours of driving so got one each. Don’t waste your money! It wasn’t a burger but 1 slice of bread with a dry patty that crumbled, 2 slices of tinned beetroot, a lettuce leaf and a glob of sauce. A scattering of chips on the side. Felt ripped off for a disappointing meal. They should be embarrassed to charge $27 for that. Not recommend. Vegans/vegetarians find something else. Meat eaters might fair better.More

Lovely staff and nice atmosphere. Reasonable menu and the only place I found open on Anzac Day in the evening But……I ordered the chicken breast stuffed with cream cheese and spinach and when it arrived it looked great but it was not fully cooked. In...fact the centre was not even warm. Once I realised this I sent it back and they brought it out again after 10 minutes saying they had given it a blast . I tried again. The centre was still uncooked. I could tell that from the appearance and the texture when cutting it. I ate the edges only. They didn’t even ask again how it was and I left most of the chicken on the plate. That made the meal v expensive for just veg and gravy. If you go here I suggest you don’t order chicken The garlic bread starter arrived v quickly and was a large portion. I’m glad I ordered that as it helped fill me upMore

I ordered a chicken salad that was on the menu only to be told after having paid and sat down it wasn’t available. Nothing else similar was available on the menu, so I ordered the venison pie. I asked did it come with veggies and...was told yes they are in the pie. I expected some peas and carrots, but all I got was chopped potato. The dish came with mash so they obviously had excess potatoes to get rid of. The venison the also tough. I informed the waitress when she asked how was the meal. I said very disappointing. She said she would let the kitchen know. Anyway no offer to rectify the matter, so we left disappointed and felt ripped off. I would not eat here again. The menu consists of allot of deep fried food which I tried to avoid. If you eat here then be prepared to be disappointed.More

This was not a great experience, and a poor excuse for a restaurant. The service is poor. My meal was brought out twice incorrect, and the steak quite cold once the issue was sorted. The garlic bread was dripping with garlic butter. The place is...lacking atmosphere, quality service, and quality food.More

Overnighted in Reefton and the guys at Reefton Distilling suggested here as a dinner option. Was reasonably busy with a few tables being used, but plenty of room and no issues accommodating us (party of 2). A good range of beer and a few wines...and the food we found well presented and tasty and atmosphere welcoming. Sky sport rugby on the big screen was a bit of a bonus. Certainly would have no issues returning if we are ever passing through again.More

Knowing the town was busy on Easter Saturday we visited the Hotel At 2 in the afternoon and asked to book a table. Our details were taken and we were told that because it was busy a table would be ready at 8pm. When we...returned at 7.30 hoping to have a drink before, we were told, that our booking had been cancelled and that our booking shouldn’t have been taken. This caused a significant issue because everything else in Reefton basically closes late in the evening. Had to revert to a burger Very poor form.More

On our recent Reefton holiday we had three excellent dinners at Dawsons. We enjoyed our quiet table by the fire and the food was delicious. There were several gluten free options including a delicious ribeye steak and very tasty gf beef nachos, Our only complaint...was there seemed to be a shortage of staff to take orders and to collect payment at the till.More

Despite a very busy night we had excellent service and a very good meal here. Fish n chips very good, ribs excellent and burgers good too. Nice range of desserts, and good wine and beer options too.

We visited this place during a very busy weekend for Reefton. However we had booked (for 13) quite a few weeks earlier. When we arrived the bar was busy, and it took some time before we were attended to. As it happened there were only...11 of us, and although our table was reserved, we had to request chairs for 2 more people. On arrival it was lovely and warm, with a fire providing heat. After a wait we finally ordered our meals. These took quite a long time to materialize, but were ok when the came. We had ordered drinks before our meal, and at one point the waitress took away the empty glasses. No offer of second drinks, just an apparent assumption one was enough. After the meal our plates were cleared, and no one came near us. Four of our party left and the rest of us sat on. Eventually I went to the counter and told them we would like dessert. By the time we had our desserts the room was getting quite cool. It was obviously time to go home (about 9.30pm)! We didn't ask for coffees (and they weren't offered). Nice place, meals were ok but not startling, they were busy - but that should have been expected and perhaps more staff were required for the evening.More

One usually expects local hotels to be offering hearty foods. What was found here instead was a small selection of menu items, much of which was simple and not particularly tasty.

I was here for a week and found this place amazing. Extremely friendly service, the way you would expect down south. I had a couple of good Syrahs and the salt and pepper sauid, which was well made a good match. Worth a visit.

Reefton is not a thriving hot spot of night life by any means. So when we ventured out for dinner from our holiday rental at about 8PM, greeted by deserted streets and silence, we expected to be a bit disappointed by whatever we could find...for dinner. Instead, we were greeted by a very friendly bar man and an appealing menu. We had a few courses and enjoyed the meal and some decent house wine.More
