Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We recently attended a function here in the upstairs area adjacent to a deck where around 70 people were in attendance. Obviously there is not enough seating in this area to cater for a large group so the plan was to seat the over-flow on...the deck. However, because of the extremely hot day, this plan was severely hampered by the lack of shelter from the hot sun. There was only a flimsy shade which did not offer any relief so no-one was able to sit outside in comfort causing a very large number to cram in the adjacent area. I suggest management look at this oversight and ensure that in future, enough shelter is provided for functions in such circumstances.More

We stopped here with another family, so four adults and 7 children in total. Staff were friendly and helpful, no one recoiled in horror at the sight (and sound) of the kids. We were able to sit outside in the sunshine, and ordered easily with...reasonable prices. The food arrived really quickly, with all 11 meals prepared at the same time! And it tasted delicious!! Beautifully cooked fish, with great portion sizes. Would definitely recommend for a casual pub lunch :)More

We stopped here for lunch while visiting Mahia Peninsula. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Pool tables available and a lovely outdoor area. The food was only average pub grub but it filled the gap.

Had a fish and chips basket. The fish was delicious. Lovely light batter. Good sized portion making it good value. Mahia is well worth a visit

Food was really average and pverpriced. I got the fish and chips meal. Chips were good, coleslaw was out of a packet, and the fish was dry and really overcooked to the point that the batter had turned dark brown. The people I was with...had the burgers. Chicken burger was awful - rubbery and like it had been deep fried from frozen. Beef burger was average. Both had the plain packet coleslaw. It was a real shame - the place is well-located right in the heart of Mahia, and has huge potential, but just does not seem like the owners really care about the customers. Not impressed and not worth the money we all paid.More

The weather turned on us so instead of enjoying another sunny day on the beautiful Mahia beach our family and friends headed over to the Sunset Point Sports Bar for a few drinks and a hot meal. The staff there were extremely gracious and helpful,...and ours meals were lovely.More

The poor reviews have us wondering what those people did to get such "poor service". We went for each night we were in Mahia and were always greeted with a smile, staff happy to chat, locals also happy to chat, and the food was very...good. It's a country pub so don't expect big city presentation - we prefer the country pub anyway - no pretensions! We enjoyed a beer each day, a bottle of wine with our meals, and the choice of dishes. I had the fish and chip meal on night one, the lambs fry on night two (cooked well - not dry), and the all day brekky on the last night. All good. The only dish we had some doubt about was the scallops - wrapped in bacon seemed to detract from the scallop taste - but nevertheless good to eat. Staff were very good and we enjoyed chatting to them. Only one problem with the place - Friday night Karaoke! We left before that so can't comment - but whenever we've been at karaoke there's always somebody who can't sing continually getting up - so we didn't take the risk!! Overall we'd highly recommend and we hope to be back at Mahia at least a couple of times a year and we'll be wandering into the pub on a regular basisMore

We got takeaway fish and chips for lunch from the Sunset Point pub on a recent trip to Mahia. Very nice tasting fish. Hubby had a burger as well which he liked. I also got a spring roll which was very nice. Good serving size....Friendly lady at the till. Would definitely go back if we're back in the area again.More

This is the second experience I've had in this area as a visitor, of being ignored at the counter. The lady was being "busy" with another staff member but rushed to serve the locals who arrived after me. I was left standing there and nearly...walked out. Is this how they treat visitors or tourists? Finally got served with an overpriced drink for a bar of this type. I chose the roast because I felt like some veges. It was a huge meal at a good price, but food was overcooked and average, although the meat was tender. I left most of it. I would not go back as there wasn't a friendly face or welcome.More
