We’ve been going to Snapper Rock since it first opened and it’s been one of our favourites.
But..wow it’s changed.
1. The prices. $41 mains, $25 entrees. No cheaper options like the past ( garlic bread etc ).
2. The menu. They’ve obviously heading to the ‘fine dining’ clientele. Kids would have a difficult job choosing something.
3. The staff. One of Snapper Rocks trademarks is friendly staff. No one is rude now, just ambivalent if you’re there or not. The one waitress tried her best but in the end everyone was abandoned.
4. The ambiance. There is none. No one seems to be enjoying themselves. It doesn’t help that the toilet roll holder has been ripped off the wall and lying on the floor. Tables that guests have long since departed left with the dishes they ate from. This is ok, but remember mains are $41 with a fine dining emphasis.
Guess I’m just disappointed. SR has been my favourite for so long, I just wanted it to keep being that. Unfortunately that’s not going to be the case

Ordered Beef & bacon burger with chips. It had a pattie and a strip of bacon as Manu says... but nothing else eg; tomato, beetroot, onion, pickles or cucumber other than Iceberg lettuce and Maya with warm chips. It was $26.50.
This was suppose to be a restaurant meal. I could of got a better burger meal from any take away bar for half the price.
Overall it was very disappointing.

Great atmosphere, oysters were excellent, cocktails were delicious, main course was very tasty.
Staff were very nice as was the manager. Highly recommend this place.

What a great place to Lunch !
A cheery welcome set the stage.
A friendly waiter made us feel at ease.
Good explanations of the bill of fare enabled good choices and the food was great.
What else could you ask for !!

The welcoming ambiance & the cotllectique coastal themed rooms and heavy timbers make this restaurant quite unique. The food was good and the service friendly.

Called in for a lunch brunch.
We liked the location and ambient interior
Settled on a shared lunch brunch and a few drinks
Would have returned for dinner however like most NZ restaurants we are finding the menu options limitd

Traveled out to Schnapper Rock for lunch today. Nick and the team were amazing and created an awesome experience, from the warm welcome, and attentive and friendly service to the great food (highly recommend the crispy paua wontons) yum

On a day trip up the coast from Whangarei I decided to stop for lunch at the very nicely appointed Schnappa Rock restaurant in Tutukaka. That unfortunately was the only black spot of my otherwise delightful trip. I ordered what I was told was fresh linefish - snapper. It came encased in a fatty carapace that was termed Beer Batter. Upon careful incision through the crispy outer skin one discovered about 1cm thick fat soaked spongy substance which yielded - with paleontological patience - what was probably fish - or once had been - at its centre. This was - in both texture and taste - basically indistinguishable from the surrounding batter, and has to - I am afraid - be in serious competition for the worst fish I have ever experienced. I left much of it uneaten - though not sufficient to escape a post prandial feeling of bloating that took a couple of energetic afternoon walks to work off. The chips and accompanying salad were nice fortunately. It escapes me why a restaurant can get away with such awful food - especially when otherwise blessed by a beautiful situation and access to abundant natural resources - particularly fish.

Very oily scrambled eggs and bacon. Coffee was good, was better on the 3rd visit. Lovely location, friendly staff.
