Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Was in last weekend on a Sunday around 11am and it was buzzing! They were pretty busy! There’s plenty of seating so that wasn’t an issue. They have a huge range of cabinet food.. probably the biggest I’ve seen! They had a few keto dishes which was different.. don’t know normally see this in a cafe. Their brunch menu isn’t very big.. they have the basics. I got the eggs bene with salmon and my partner got the low card breaky specials and I also got a Greek orange cake. The cake was 🤯!! It was amazing and I’m still thinking about it.. it was honestly so simple and delicious. The eggs bene was tasty, it came with a herby potato cake which was really nice. My partner loves his low carb breaky. We both actually so full we didn’t eat anything for the rest of the day until about 9pm when we got a bit peckish! I would recommend people to go here.

On a recent trip to Akaroa we stopped for lunch at thr Little River Café, where enjoyed lunch in this very busy café which is located at the end of the rail trail. Although very busy our meal arrived promptly. After we had eaten we spent some time in the shop and gallery attached. I highly recommend this café.

We regularly drop in to this cafe when visiting the Peninsula in our caravan. We popped in on Sunday for lunch over the Queen's Birthday weekend and the place was very busy. Many of the wait staff are young and the young girl on the till missed my coffee order even though I checked with her that she had two drinks on the docket. Our food duly arrived and my husband's coffee so when my didn't turn up I asked a tall curly-headed young man to check on progress. He promptly returned to advise that it had been missed and he said he would make it himself. And he did - within minutes. We were both impressed by his willingness to take responsibility and to make things right - and decided that one day soon he will be a very successful business owner somewhere. Some people just know what the right thing is to do...

We had spent a week in Akaroa on holiday and were departing early morning. As we entered the settlement of Little River we made a random decision to pause and have a look about. The info/train centre was visited first and this was a grand place with all the historical displays and items for sale. We then went for a coffee at the cafe. Well, what an interesting store or rather set of 3 stores in one continuous building! The selection of foods was better than anywhere we visited in Akaroa over the week, there was a vibrant humming atmosphere and then afterwards a lot of quality crafts, gifts, art works, etc to view and buy. I had a slice of cake from the cabinet and it was large as was the actual cake. "Excellent value", I remarked to a staff member. Little River is wonderful place to visit and I'm so glad we stopped.

What an unexpected gem. A modern, super friendly cafe offering the best salads I've had in a long time. Great variety of meals on offer. It was so good we purchased extra for dinner. (could you please come to Nelson) Having eaten an over priced and very average dinner the previous day in Akaroa, go no further than this cafe. Thanks to all the wonderful people working here and creating such a feast.
There is an excellent gallery attached....best we've ever visited.

In truth, we didn't only move for the cafe, but for a city-dweller like me, our move to Little River a year ago was considerably softened by knowing we had such a great local! Coffee is always good, and the citrus and date scones are excellent. Savoury muffin is always good, as is everything I've tried on the breakfast menu. The attached store is great for picking up grocery items, or an ice cream for the grandkids, and the attached gallery is one of my favourite places to browse and shop.

We stopped here on a very busy Sunday afternoon for lunch on our way to Akaroa. I stood in a queue for 10 minutes before I got to the counter to order. Not a problem in itself but was only asked by the woman at the counter for my vaccine pass once I got to her so potentially could have been standing beside unvaccinated people all that time.
I was even more surprised to see staff not wearing masks in the prep area. One of two guys at the coffee machine had his mask on his chin as did a woman in the prep area. There was another woman in this area with no mask in sight at all. Finally our food was delivered by a young boy probably around 12 with no mask. I know under 12's don't need to wear masks but surely they do when working with food.
All in all very disappointing.

First thing was sign on the door saying Face masks required in Cafe whilst inside as we are at red... Inside the Cafe most staff not wearing masks either at all or correctly...so what is the point??
Food was good, service a little disjointed, partners coffee arrived after all the ordered food was nearly eaten....

Negative = This was the worse service I have had in NZ for a very long time, all bought at a premium! For a country known for it's friendly people, this was really poor. From the apathetic staff at the till to the grumpy manager who, despite us have just spent close to $100 on lunch for 4 people, appeared to be only concerned that we had taken more than our allocated share of their paper napkins! I have to say it left me and the rest of the group a bit stunned. You may literally be the only option in the township, but I won't be back.
May I remind you of the meaning of hospitality, the industry that you are in...
Hospitality " the generous and friendly treatment of visitors and guests"
Plus points = a good selection of tasty, healthier food.

Although the brunch/lunch menu has a variety of options, the cabinet food gets me every time. A wide selection of freshly made colourful and tasty food make selection a challenge!
Well-made coffees and friendly staff ensure it’s a ‘must stop’ on the way to Akaroa.
Seating inside or out, under the trees in a peaceful garden setting, surrounded by local artists sculptures is a bonus.

We we’re looking forward to eating here as had heard good things. We both ordered bacon and eggs, mine poached and my daughter scrambled and I had mushrooms. We asked before ordering if we ordered a side of hash browns are they regular hash browns or home made and the young man serving said they were not home made so my daughter ordered them. Unfortunately they were homemade like a herby mash ball - not at all like a hashbrown and overwhelmingly herby. Toast wasn’t buttered nor were we given butter and the toast was dry and also impossible to cut as crusts were so tough. Bacon was good and eggs were good. Was $56 for two of us for breaky and we were disappointed overall.

Attached to the art gallery and local dairy, this is a VERY popular place, but many regard it as the only place. To my mind, its popularity is its downfall as the design of the place is not good. Patrons have to line up in the main thoroughfare but there are seats outside. I will stop if there aren't many people there, otherwise however good the food, I find it too crowded.

This cafe is very busy on the weekends. It has both indoor and outdoor covered seating. I had a scone and coffee and both were very good. There is a good slection of both cabinet and menu food. This cafe has a small food food shop attached as well as a gift shop.

The quality of this place makes up for the slightly high prices. The orange cake was amazing, only thing is that the slice was so big, it would be enough for 3 people and i wasn't able to finish it which was sad. I ordered tea and it was exactly right at a reasonable price.

Very disappointing. Outdoor tables smattered with bird poo. Lunch didn't include the usual small side salad so meal was very basic. Asked twice for our table to be wiped down but nothing happened. Will be bypassing next time
