Great coffee in the small town. It was a nice atmosphere in the cafe, plenty of magazines to read there was seating outside which on a nice day would be great. Easy to find on a corner in the middle of town.
Very disappointing, pork salad was swimming in soy sauce, pork was hard, beef salad, beef was burnt, all in all I would not recommend this place, staff were avoidant when suggestions for the menu were made, not possible for instance to just have a bread roll with...salad, coffee was all milk, sad because this was supposed to be a great Christmas gatheringMore
We are on a driving holiday and stopped in for lunch. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious.
Our choices were the roasted vegetable salad and the seafood chowder. Both were heartily approved of. Recommend this cafe if you are...in Oxford.More
It’s great to support local especially during times like these, but it’s a little disappointing when you are charged $6.50 for a coffee or a hot chocolate! We also sampled the carrot cake for a Mother’s Day treat and unfortunately was really underwhelming. It was...dense and quite dry. With this experience and pricing we would be unlikely to returnMore
We drove in to Oxford from our campground at Ashley Gorge for some shopping and stopped for lunch at Cafe51 on the recommendation of the campsite owner.
What a great find!
The menu is interesting, varied and fairly priced.
We sat outside and enjoyed watching...the world go by.
Food was so good, that e made a point of stopping on our way out of Oxford a couple f days later, to grab a take-away lunch to eat on our journey.More
We stopped in to this cafe during a road trip for the day from Christchurch. It was during the Christmas holidays, so possibly the only cafe open. Our experience was good - we first opted to sit outside, in the lovely garden, but the weather...was too breezy so we moved indoors. My companion chose Seafood Chowder and I had Poached Eggs with spinach, mushroom and tomato. Although the cafe was quite busy, our meals came in about 15 minutes and they were good. The chowder was thick and delicious with nice toast; the eggs were fine too. Good coffee here. Other meals coming out looked good - we saw generous servings and colourful dishes. Service is nice, but their admin takes a while - I had to wait while they tried to figure out how much to charge me - three times over. Otherwise it was fine. I would return here.More
Lovely old building converted into a restaurant, because of this there are intimate spaces throughout which I imagine could be reserved for a special event, despite it being a rather busy time, the waitresses were polite and apologetic even though the wait for food was...pretty minimal considering. The food was appetising and delicious. I’ve previously looked past this restaurant when on a day trip for lunch but will happily return next time we visit Oxford.More
So the frustration of finding spinach in my ‘slaw’ was heightened by the salty nature of the Cajun spice & overall there was not enough food on my plate to warrant the price. Disappointing after we had enjoyed this place in the past.
Somewhat disappointing experience. Decided to go up to Oxford for a Sunday drive and afternoon tea with friends. Arrived 3.30pm and told coffees would be served in a takeaway cup. If we are going to sit in a cafe it is more pleasant to enjoy...your coffee in a cup.
If we wanted a takeaway cup then we can go to McDonalds in Rangiora or Kaiapoi drive through.
Thought they were in a hurry to close at 4pm however I see on website they are open to 5pm. On top of that we got the cakes and biscuits in a paper bag.
This is not what Cafe dining is about.
We sat out side and had a Milkshake instead. Not what we went to enjoy.
Been there sometime back and service much better.
You need to get the meaning of Cafe dining right. How stupid to lose customers so easily. Never our choice next time.More
