Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Used to be a great restaurant. Serving well cooked ,pub food . This time I went for Sunday lunch and had roast pork . A very disappointing meal , quite cold , piled up on plate so no idea what was there , and almost...completely tasteless . Other meals may be ok but Sunday lunch is a horror !More

Went on a Sat night, every table seemed to have three generations of family on it. Bar was fast and friendly, kitchen managed soo well to cope with the demand and food was faster than expected. Unfortunately quality wasn’t the best. Some was cold and...others mushy. Probably just the pace of work needed to meet the demand. Not unhappy, just a little unsatisfied afterwards.More

We arrived at 5.30pm as we thought we would beat the dinner rush but it wasn't to be. The bar service was average but the food service was just way too slow. While we were there numerous people complained that their food hadn't arrived. The...kitchen was obviously understaffed and stressed. Such a shame because when the food finally arrived it was good. We won't return for that reason.More

Could be great but wasn't. Too many kids (why weren't they in bed?). Food was average and drinks seemed a bit pricey. Felt like we were at Cobb N Co.

Visited here while on holiday. The food was so tasty and portions were very acceptable size. The most outstanding was the garlic bread. We have never tasted anything as good as that.... So so delicious. Service was very friendly too. Desserts were devine. Chocolate Torte...very rich. Great to share with someone. We will definitely return to this Irish Pub full of character when we are in the Hawkes Bay again.More

If you choose to have a drink here be sure you have deep pockets. $36 for 2 beers and a soft drink. Food was OK, atmosphere there was none.

It's the first time we've been here and we found the atmosphere and decor to be really good. Staff are friendly and there is a good selection to drink. Lots of variety if you are local,e.g. quiznight and monthly tripe and onion meals. Our meals...were great, schnitzel, beef and mushroom stew and prawn pasta. We were traveling so it was so nice to have it with salad and veges instead of chips. Another great thing is the choice of small or large meals. This reduces waste and caters to varying appetites. No holiday surcharge was good too. I wish we lived local as this would be our regular place to visit. Thank you.More

The food is hot, tasty and plentiful. There is plenty of avriety, the fish is fresh, the chips are great. Both salad and veg are available. It is a good pub meal. The service is prompt and friendly.

Went here for lunch on a Tuesday on a recent trip to Havelock North. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside under the umbrellas, it was lovely. Hubby had the beef burger, I had the beef and Guinness pie. Both came with chips,...and I had a salad with mine also. Both were very nice. There were a couple of pieces of beef in the pie that weren’t as tender as the rest, but overall it was very tasty and the chips were nice. Hubby liked his burger and chips. A nice touch to have the condiments (salt, pepper, tomato sauce, extra napkins) brought out with the food in a wooden holder. It was a nice way to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary!More

We have been going to this restaurant over the years and the standard doesn’t change. Things are different this year with social distancing etc. We were seated by our waitress and ordered drinks from our table. I had the ham steak with chips and salad...and my husband had the days special of pork belly and he had chips and salad too. Both were beautifully cooked, the salad was very flavoursome. Totally enjoyed the meal and the service was perfect too.More
