About

Havelock North's most popular bar! Loading Ramp is a bar/restaurant located in the heart of Havelock North. The design is based around the classic Kiwi Sheep Shearing Woolshed. The interior design contains old-school farming elements such as old 'wool-presses' and large wooden floorboards and is kept up to date with funky wallpaper and bright-bold upholstery. The kitchen has an a la carte menu which is updated regularly. Our mains and desserts are cooked and prepared gastro style. Loading Ramp becomes a late-night venue on saturday evenings with a local DJ from 10pm till 3am.

Cool Atmosphere, affordable, great menu. We had Fries and a few drinks, very cool decor. Chicken Ceaser Salad is quite good

Great gins

Called into the Ramp after work today. Had two of the best gins ever. Could really taste the gin. Brilliant.

Dinned there recently, didn't realise we would be sitting amongst the drinkers and we were the only ones "dining" there. The menu very basic, pub food, I asked if there was another menu as the photos on Trip Advisor and other places were now not indicative of what was being offered. Our waitress was lovely and our steak meal very good. Highly recommend the sticky date pudding. As a dinning experience, possibly chose somewhere else, as an after work drink and catch up a perfect place.

Not great unfortunately

Unfortunately the service was really slow and the food was cold (and we were told they watched it in the kitchen and it couldn’t be!) 🤔 We understand things are different at the moment, and while our waitress was doing her best, she was about the only one in the establishment making much of an effort. Some of the staff were very rude and swore at people in our group. They made us feel unwelcome, and in the current climate, I would have thought they’d be doing the absolute opposite of that. I wouldn’t recommend and won’t be back.

Came here for dinner with a friend over week ago. Got told to find a table after being asked for i.d, After over 15 minutes of sitting and waiting to see if we would be served, I had to approach the bar and ask for menus, you had three staff members standing behind the bar doing nothing, it wasnt busy, when i walked away with menus I heard the guy laugh and say oops i forgot they were even here. The waitress we got had to ask us to repeat what we were wanting to order several times, if your staff arent able to remember two meal and two drink orders id suggest they carry a docket book and pen with them to write it down or more staff training provided. I work in a restaurant myself and was very appalled at the lack of service we recieved whilst attempting to dine in your establishment. If it wasnt for the pure fact that we were hungry we would of gotten up and left. The food was average and part of the meal was cold, didnt bother complaining because i felt it wouldnt of had any notice taken to a complaint. Dont think ill be coming back to dine which is a shame as my other visits had been fine.

Bartender was rude

Upon entry of this establishment, my friends and I walked into the loading ramp to see one of the staff juggling glasses, the second he saw us he instantly ran over to us demanded to see our I.D, he made it his mission to go through every single precaution such as shining his torch, and scratching the I.D. However, this did not stop. Each time he came over to our table he asked to see them, I feel as if this was very unnecessary and we were being racially profiled. We ordered our food and although the establishment was quiet it took 45 minutes for 3 meals to come out. 2 of which were cold. I would not recommend dining at this establishment.

Superb meals, drinks and atmosphere.

So we went in for a test beer at lunch time to see whether it would be ok for dinner. The owner was behind the bar and was a really decent bloke. We booked and came back for dinner and drinks later to watch the rugby. The bar staff were excellent apart from the one taking selfies all night. The young bloke serving drinks was friendly always ready for the next round. The young girl successfully pulled her first pint and was always happy. The meals were very good. Excellent steak meal and platters. We will be back and can recommend this place to anyone looking for quality time and meals. Very reasonably priced. But best of all the staff were just good people.

Appalling Service

Bar owner/Manager was beyond rude. Wouldn’t let one of our group in because his ID was slightly faded. Despite his vaccine passport being the same Birth Name and DOB. Incredibly off putting and terrible impression of a business in these times. Would NOT recommend.

This was an appalling meal - took ages to take our orders and the meals took forever to arrive and one of our group of 4 had to watch us eat our dinner and then his meal arrived AND it wasn’t what he had asked for! Would not recommend eating here!!!

Get a kebab you will be more satisfied

Not a great experience, poor selection of lower alcoholic beers, menu small and when came to ordering nearly half the mains were not available on a Friday night!! Pizzas we got weren’t cooked correctly base was soft and under cooked, steaks were tough like ya granddad boots, tables weren’t even clean, not a great feed at all should of gone for a kebab. Only 3 bar staff made waiting time long when busy, big sweaty barman could be less intimidating and actually smile at his patrons, toilets are disgusting and you can smell the urine before even entering, a lot of intoxicated patrons in bar that should of not been served any more alcohol. Overall wouldn’t recommend or bother going back. Pretty crappy experience for the price

Very disappointing

I have been to this place a few times and have been ok with it. Food ok, this time staff not friendly, service not there, bar staff didnt know how to mix a drink which the instruction was on the wall, and staff not new to this place. Had to ask waiter to put drink in correct glass and not a beer glass, plus drink not shaken or stirred. For $15 this was not a good experience.

Won't be back

Extremely disappointed in the service and treatment we had at the Loading Ramp. Having picked up our 19 year old German daughter from the airport, we took her and our almost 18 year old daughter to have a quiet drink. My husband bought 2 ciders, 1 beer and an orange juice at the bar with us all standing behind him. He handed us the drinks, paid and then was asked if the girls had ID. Our daughter didn't have any ID on her. This we then learned was an issue!!! If we had been asked before at the door on arrival it wouldn't have been so bad, but he then hounded us for ID and needed proof that we were in fact her parents!! We were told EVERY child on the premise needed to prove they were with their parents. We asked for the manager, we were told we could quietly enjoy our drinks and leave. My husband then asked what if we wanted to stay for a meal. The reply was the same, we needed to leave!!!!! We were literally all quietly sitting at a table in the corner not causing a scene!! So am I now to take birth certificates, marriage certificates, passports to prove I gave birth to our daughter???? I have since googled all the laws about drinking legally and it states that parents are allowed under supervision to responsibly provide alcohol, however in this instance, our rights were questioned... We had paid good money for drinks that then tasted bitter and our experience was awful!!! We won't be back. DISGUSTED at the way in which it was done. Understand totally about licensing, but the manner in which it was carried out was unacceptable!

Terrible terrible terrible but ok food

Oh God what can I say... slow,understaffed and terrible management... we felt like an actual inconvenience being there and ordering meals... Thursday,fridays and Saturdays are busy I get that but not enough staff and it honestly looked like management didnt care and couldn't care less if we complained.wont be back ever and such a shame as food was ok.
