When first coming to piku, the atmosphere isn't the best the music doesn't match the theme of the restaurant. The second time, tried going for their mains, had the green tea lamb, and was disappointed in the small portion size for the price it was selling for. The waitstaff are attentive and polite, and the food there is presented beautifully and tastes amazing. When going to Piku, recommend going for the sharing plates, such as; Kumara fries, Crispy pork fried rice, Wagyu Meatballs, and their Platters. And their puddings starting with my favorite Macadamia tart, panna cotta, and the brownie were all good.

Great meal, the food is tasty, varied and great for sharing or to have your own meal. We all really enjoyed the food, when a drink was forgotten and brought at the end of the meal, they didn't charge for it. So service great too. Would recommend to all, and as its always busy, that speaks for itself too.

Took my Mum there for lunch on her 80th Birthday. We had the shared plate. Was amazing. Mums comment was: I saw the crispy meat pieces and was worried that it would be hard and dry. It was anything but. So nice and tender. We then ordered dessert and when it came out the waitstaff stuck a candle into the panna cotta and lit it for my Mums Birthday. So thoughtful. Staff where amazing throughout. Will definitely be back for more amazing food.

I had been told by someone the waitresses suggest 3 dishes per person which is too much. Our waitress also recommended 2-3 dishes per person (3 of us and we ordered 5 dishes). Even this was too much. 4 dishes would have been perfect. The recommended 6-9 is ridiculous up-selling and a waste of food. Our waitress was not friendly and clearly didn't want to be there but lovely food.

I’ve been twice to this restaurant which is ALWAYS busy and you need to book a reservation or arrive pre 12pm and sit in their outdoor courtyard. The restaurant has a modern funky Asian appearance and is very clean and tidy. The first time we visited approx 2yr ago we had an amazing time. The food was fantastic, the cocktails great, the service slightly cold but professional and prompt. We recommend Piku to a lot of people. We visited a second time this month and while it’s still very popular the food isn’t nearly as good as it was. Most dishes have chilli though this isn’t specified in the menu, the pork boa was very very fatty and had a lot of chilli, the pork yakatori wasn’t nearly as fatty and was a decent dish without being amazing, the prawn spring role was fresh though lacked much prawn. The best dish was the karage chicken which was perfectly cooked though having smaller pieces would have made the eating experience easier. Overall it just seemed to lack the flavours we had the first time around.

The restaurant was drafty and quite cold. The staff were very busy but they weren't attentive. We ordered our food and drinks and waited for quite a long time. A table that was seated after us had their drinks served before us. Finally our food arrived and our drinks shortly afterwards. BAO buns were over sauced. The sushi was OK. Went to order more food only to be told that they had run out of two chicken dishes which was what I wanted to order I can't eat meat so we paid & just left ....still hungry and disappointed. Will not return.

Lovely staff. Amazing tapas experience. There was a great gluten free range which included most of the regular menu. In terms of tapas, we didn’t feel as though we were limited with the sharing experience being gluten free. The cocktails were good. I would recommend the visit for dinner.

Dinner with my wife. We ordered the sharing platter for $60 with edamame beans, fish balls, kara aged chicken, pork cats and spicy tuna roll. It was just the right amount for us and every dish was delicious. Tried some warm Sake with this which was ok but will pass next time for a wine and Cognac instead.

My wife and I visited Hawkes Bay over the weekend and dined at Piku with family who are regulars there, we shared number of small dishes and each were outstanding, deserts were next level, the service was brilliant and the restaurant itself has a nice fresh modern layout. Only slight criticism was the $20 surcharge which wasn't explained and wasn't noticed until the next morning, it is apparently to offset credit card payment which is a bit confusing as we paid by debit card. That aside we can't wait for our next trip to the Bay to explore more of the amazing menu.

Great food - we went out eh courtyard on a Saturday night (couldn’t get a restaurant reservation) and shared a couple of share plates for starter and then onto the main. The sashimi was fresh and the clean, and the wagyu meat balls were excellent - just thought it a little odd that they were described to us a share plates (and we did), but came with 5 pieces? Seems an odd number to use for share plates. But not too difficult for us to solve, and the taste made up for it! Mains of the lamb rump & beef cheeks were also excellent. Service was attentive and the drinks list quite extensive.

This restaurant was a win from start to finish. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, happy to answer questions and make recommendations. Every dish was well presented and the flavours perfect. Great atmosphere - it was almost a full house on a Wednesday night which I think highlights just how good they are. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Havelock North.

WOW WOW WOW x 100 The restaurant is located in the hub of Havelock North shops and is mouth wateringly delicious Japanese food. The layout is modern, simplistic, funky and perfect for the style of food. The service is prompt and can’t be faulted. The food is amazing - it’s so good we’re going to visit a 2nd time during our short stay in Hawkes Bay. The pricing is about what you would expect - we paid $120 for 3 people to have lunch and one drink each. The best items we had were the karagage chicken and the pulled pork bao. So looking forward to going again and I strongly suggest you book to not avoid disappointment

We have eaten at Piku a few times and our most recent visit did not disappoint either. We hadn't booked but they had a table despite it being busy, I would recommend booking though. Our waitress suggested how many plates to order and it was then a difficult choice to choose! The standout dishes for us were the Tempura Chicken in "Knock Out" sauce, the beef cheeks with Shitake mushrooms, and the Sashimi platter. Everything was packed with flavour and perfectly cooked.

Being forwarded about the popularity we made a reservation. Service was prompt to get seated but then they seemed a little stretched so it was hard to get their attention. Our food arrived after we had watched others who had ordered after us receive their food. Overall, the food looked great but apart from different textures, the dishes had a sameness of taste. I consider the pricing on the high side.
