My husband and I are from Calgary always look forward to our getaways to Banff. An important part of our getaway is to have dinner at Hello Sunshine. We love the food and have gone a few times by now. We have had the same items most of the time but tonight was different. When our excellent waiter, Rob, came to take our order, we were ready to order our usuals but Rob proceeded to tell us about his favorite dishes. He talked about them with such passion that we completely changed our order and had many of his recommendations. We are so glad we went with his suggestions as they were all delicious. We had new experiences thanks to our waiter’s knowledge of the menu and obvious enthusiasm. We will be back and continue to explore the menu.

As locals that live in town, this is one of our top happy hour deals. Most weeks we'll come here for $10 ramen and $6 pints/sake after work (Fri-Sun, 5-6pm) . It's always great service, and sometimes we even come back later that night (9pm-close) for more late night happy hour drinks.

The interior of this restaurant is so cool, we loved the art projected onto the tiles. We where helped to choose the dishes we liked, we weren’t familiar with some and both servers took the time to explain how the food was prepared, put together and presented. We tried local beers, which again where staff recommended. It was great to talk to staff who knew about the food and drink, rather than just reading the menu.
We had several different types of sushi, including a mouthwatering spicy tuna maki and a sweet potato hand roll that was good good we reordered more!
If you wanted to impress a date or have a celebration, book a fireplace table.

Had a really disappointing time tonight. We were reserved a table at 8:30 but ended up not being given one until 9:30. After finally being seated we were told the kitchen was closing soon so we had to rush our food order. As compensation our server came out with a free shot but then got told we were given the wrong shot so took it away from us and replaced it with a beer and something shot which was terrible. When the food finally arrived it was great but very small portions for what we paid and now the kitchen was closed there was no opportunity to get more food. I know it was a busy night but you could have treated us better than that

this venue has provided me with one of the worst experiences we have ever had in banff. things started off rough as when we walked in the host(manager?) was rolling their eyes at another group of guests. upon greeting us she was not friendly and was dismissive of our group. after we were seated we were promptly greeted by a young bartender who acted like he wanted to be literally anywhere but his job. the food was overpriced & we sent back our mushroom dish and were never offered a replacement. he only returned to our table once after that (to bring us our bill), we sat with empty drinks for over 45 minutes. we had to wave him down to order dessert and he rolled his eyes and sighed loudly as he came over. the only redeeming part of our experience was dessert, the miso mile high pie was great! overall, not worth the price for the lack of service.

We had a nice meal here after seeing positive reviews on TA. The restaurant is popular and was busy at 6:00 PM on a Friday. The music was a little loud but otherwise the ambience was good. Our server explained the menu and we ordered a mixture of appetizers, rolls and sashimi. The dishes were delivered sequentially, which was nice. The food came fairly quickly and we enjoyed most of them a lot.
We've had better sushi in other cities but Hello Sunshine was certainly decent. It's not cheap sushi but considering it's location in a touristy resort town, the price was actually not unreasonable.
We'd recommend it for sushi in Banff but book ahead as it will likely be busy. Worth a try for sure!

The days of eating elk burgers and wood-fired pizzas in the mountains are thankfully behind us as there are now options like this excellent sushi restaurant. Sure it is not going to be the same as being in Vancouver, but the small-ish selection was sufficiently broad to provide options and everything that we had was excellently prepared and fresh. We were particularly pleased with our server's recommendation to try to Madai, which was excellent as nigiri.
The start to the meal was somewhat interesting, with a "cheeseburger gyoza". This is quite an odd dish, with ground beef-filled gyoza connected by a rice disk with shredded lettuce and what tastes like a ketchup and mustard sauce. It definitely did taste like a cheeseburger and we enjoyed it, but it wouldn't be for somebody looking for anything authentic!
Our server (Papson?) was exceptional! Many thanks for the good service and recommendations.

Tried this new spot out on a whim tonight and I’m glad we did! The menu seemed limiting at first but our waiter Spencer did a great job outlining the “tapas” style menu they had and got us excited about pretty much everything on the menu.
The ambiance was great, with great lighting, fire places, and good music. The food was really tasty as well and was prepared really quickly.
Only complaint is the serving size. It was quite small, but I also know that’s what you get with a hip/modern style eatery.
Overall good experience and Spencer gets another shoutout for treating us well.

The food was very delicious but it was a little pricy for the portions and the service wasn’t very speedy. We had to spend a long time ordering and waiting to place orders, and constantly asking for more water. The bills needed to be re sorted because things went on different bills when we were very clear in the beginning when ordering about splits

Yesterday we dined for an early dinner after a day of hiking and had an excellent experience. The servers and staff were very helpful and we were extremely happy that they were able to accommodate our allergies with no problems. We tried a selection of items off the menu and everything was so delicious. The quality of the food was also noticeable and appreciated! There was a great selection of warm and cold items and we had a fun time ordering a variety of dishes for my husband and I to share. The space felt very clean and the restaurant was following all the government’s rules that are currently in place. We snagged a spot outside by the fire though which was super cute! We will be returning in the future for sure. I can’t wait to go back! One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Banff!

We has a lovely time tonight at Hello Sunshine, helped by Sarah, who was ever attentive and had fantastic suggestions. We tried almost everything she recommended and had a deliciously memorable meal. Hello Sunshine also had many vegan options for one of our group members, and their drinks menu is incredibly comprehensive. Overall, would recommend!

Excellent food and restaurant design. Service was superb, even when the server had a few tables at hand. Rapson had excellent recommendations and menu knowledge always ready to answer a question or give a precise recommendation. 10/10 would recommend to friends and to make sure to enjoy a meal when in town. Dishes were artistic and delicious with good portion sizes.

Something new in Banff to keep coming back for. We loved everything we ordered 1) Spicy Tuna Tartare 2) Pork skewers 3) Butcher Steak and 4) Rainbow pressed sushi. Our favorite was the pork skewers. We were expecting tiny yakitori sticks often found in other Japanese restos but this one was huge. Tender, flavourful and tangy but not too much.
The vibe of the place - modern, a bit loud and fast paced service with servers navigating the odd and non linear layout of the dining room. We were seated at one of the two round communal tables facing a fire pit.
Shout out to our server Rapson who is from Hongkong. He made all the right recommendations from the menu. Can’t wait to come back to try the rest.

Awesome meal and the service is phenomenal. Rapson was very attentive and food came out hot, with great presentation and super delicious. Quick service although it was super busy. Highly recommend the Wagyu beef and the ramen ❤️. Everything was good. Definitely we’ll comeback

The food here is incredible - prepare for small plates, arriving as they are ready (tapas style). Highly recommend the snow crab hand roll, crispy rice with mushroom ragu and the kobachu squash. There are options for vegans and gluten free. Our server was Alex and he offered great information and recommendations. Service and food was impeccable!
