Lovely setting, tasty food, ok service but totally overpriced… £14 for a nibble starter (pathetic portions), £19 for fish, chips & mushy peas & £8 for a glass of wine! Hadn’t been there for a few years and won’t be going back at those prices…...such a shame!More

Lovely lunch looking out o er the sea. I had a crab sandwich and my husband had fish and chips- a sensible portion size of hake and chips that was filling but not too much. Friendly service and excellent food.

Had root vegetable soup today. It looked and tasted disgusting. Dark brown in colour, no seasoned stock, no croutons and no Parmesan. It did have one very long hair in it and a lot of sugar. It had been over heated in a microwave as...well, (really) it’s the second time we have been here and both times disappointed, we won’t go again!More

Not impressed, £19 for fish and chips in a canteen like atmosphere. No more to say, find out for yourselves.

Have had some really good fish based meals here. But recently ate of the Christmas menu. My expectations were based on my previous experience. The turkey main meal and the cheesecake dessert were very poor. The main course was served up in a bowl looking...like a dogs breakfast, looked like it had been plated up for ages and was well below my expectations for this restaurant. In fact it was one of the poorest meals I have had for a long time and at £35 a head was consequently not great value either.More

We have made several visits over the years and have never had anything other than excellent service and food. As we were accompanied by a little dog, this place has always been pet friendly even supplying a little snack. As the Hive is always busy...I booked in advance. The staff are highly enthusiastic and as efficient as ever. The beach restaurant was a great place to spend a windy afternoon eating, drinking and watching the churned up sea. Covid regs were well established and adhered to.More

Stopped off for a quick snack after a walk. Unfortunately the member of staff who was the first point of contact seemed rather miserable and made us feel we had upset his day, just by asking if they were serving outside. ( they were not...busy) They were, but from his behaviour, you'd had thought we had asked something unreasonable.. Then when we went to pay, again, he seemed annoyed that we wanted to pay.. the portions are very small and quite expensive. Great location and I'm sure he was just having a bad day, however that's not our fault.More

Have to agree with the other reviews, the fish at this beach side cafe was fantastic. - The ATLANTIC HAKE in tempura batter was light and generously thick and flaky, served with decent sized chips and the best mushy peas ever - much more texture...than in run of the mill establishments. - The BUTTERFLY MACKEREL fillets were also perfectly cooked and served on a tempting bed of vegetables. - Service was ebullient and friendly.More

We visited here for breakfast. The staff were really nice and friendly, everywhere was clean. The food came quite quickly and was piping hot, and a nice twist on the breakfast. Lovely location. Definitely worth a visit.
