Inspired by the longstanding Asian culinary influences found throughout Baja California, Agave Azul restaurant features Chinese and Japanese cooking techniques and flavors alongside the bounty from the waters of the region that boast some of the best seafood in the world. The menu also highlights creative interpretations of classic dishes from Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe and offers specialty cocktails, beer, and wines including Mexican produced sake. Agave Azul offers sweeping views of the Mayakoba lagoon and lush scenery, making it a delightful choice for pre-dinner cocktails, appetizers or a full feast as evening arrives. On Monday's La Plaza at Agave Azul turns into "Sabores de Baja" a celebration of the iconic and unfussy cuisine of the Mexican peninsula and recreates an intimate evening out on the town in Baja. With welcome drinks in hand, guests stroll through a vibrant plaza of food stalls and shops before arriving at their table overlooking the lagoon.

We had a nice meal a few nights ago so decided to come back. Sat at the bar and watched Edgar produce works of art. The salmon nigiri was so refined and ceviche delicious. Sushi portions are generous and super flavorsome. Chef Jose ensures a great dining experience and all over what comes out of the kitchen. Will come back again…

Our concierge at the Fairmont Hotel highly recommended this restaurant as a must-try place to eat while visiting Mayakoba, and we were not disappointed. We came for my birthday dinner on Valentine's Day, and were regaled by the wonderful staff throughout our meal. Although every dish we tried was delicious, each successive choice seemed to be even better than the previously one! You must try the farm-grown totuava, which was impeccable, and is a special treat because the fish is now a protected species in the wild.
The beautiful setting oriented toward the cenote-fed waterway that meanders throughout the Mayakoba development created a perfect ambiance for an exquisite experience. At the end of our meal, we were greeted by a rousing staff singing Happy Birthday while delivering a cake with a huge sparkler shooting off as it was delivered!

Beautiful setting welcomes you overlooking the waterways. We were greeted by our cheerful and infectiously enthusiastic server. She had extremely helpful suggestions and everything she recommended was delicious. We had the edamame that was so unique and flavorful. The ceviche with striped bass and pork belly was such an interesting combination but was a flavor explosion. All 3 sushi rolls we tried were fresh and delicious. And the steak satay special was tender and great dipping sauces. The frozen yoghurt macarons were unexpected but a perfect way to end the meal. This was a great highlight of our dinners on our trip. If you staying on Mayakoba definitely check it out.

Great setting and atmosphere at this restaurant. However, the sushi is mediocre at best for anyone who had the good stuff in NYC and Tokyo. Service is very slow and not attentive (have to ask for various things multiple times). And it is extremely overpriced. We had a ceviche, edemame, 4 rolls and 5 pieces of sashimi for $300.

The first time we went to Mayakoba, my wife and I stayed at the Rosewood and to this day we have never had a better vacation. Our trip started with a tequila tasting night at Agave Azul (this was 6 years ago). The whole night was magical. Since then, we have come back to Mayakoba almost every year with the kids but we stay at the Fairmont since the kid love their kids club. Regardless we always go to Agave Azul for at least one dinner. This year, the food was great, but we were put off by the service.
We were welcomed as we always are and the staff is wonderful to give the kids a book to color. Oddly, our waiter sort of jumped on us to order drinks even though he saw that I had just sat down and didn't even have a chance to look at the drink menu. This happened again when he rushed to take our order. Typically this restaurant has a great flow to it where you are never rushed but never left waiting.
Once the food came, things were much better because the food is awesome. Granted you are eating a $40 sushi roll, so it really should be fabulous. While it is expensive, you are treated to a very flavorful meal that is hard to beat.
Unfortunately, this is the point where we lost our waiter. He seemed to have met a couple he enjoyed talking to who were sitting at the bar and we couldn't get his attention. We had bought two bottles of water which are not kept near the table so they sat half full while our glasses were completely empty. I would have loved a second drink, but that clearly was not going to happen. Someone cleared two of the four dishes, but we sat and waited for another 15 minutes before he decided to check on us again. At this point we just wanted the check. He asked if we wanted to see the menu, which we had, but 20 minutes ago. We got our check, took a DEEP breath, paid the ransom and called it a night.

One thing you can count on in Mexico at any price point is that food will have a lot of flavor, be presented with joy, and will surprise you by what a value it is. We had the unfortunate luck of eating here on our first night at Mayakoba and we almost checked out the next day. The idea of spending $200 US every night in the Mayakoba compound for what was the worst, most flavorless meal I've had in 15 years traveling in Mexico made us want to leave for tastier climes. Rubbery shrimp, dispirited service, and a wallet a lot lighter after the bill left a bad taste in our mouths.
We ate each night after at the restaurants in the Andaz next door and had much better experiences (for half the price) in every instance.

Agave Azul is in a beautiful setting and sipping your cocktail on the balcony puts you in a great frame of mind for their extraordinary seafood dishes. Our very favourite was the Scallop & Hiramasa tiradito. Every bite was an explosion of freshness and flavour. The rock shrimp were a cooked dish -- a tasty and filling snack before the sushi. So were the beef barbacoa rolls, although they were the weakest of the items we tried. We really loved the Tuna Duo which was beautifully presented and very tasty.
A beautiful setting, excellent food and some lovely cocktails that are geared to local ingredients. A delightful way to enjoy an evening out.

Service is attentive but rushed. Food is at best average. Tried the rock shrimp, it was fried properly but lacked in flavor. Had the sushi and nothing amazing.
The best parts were the hospitality & dessert. Dessert was excellent, unique presentation with the sponge cake.

We LOVE Agave Azul. We visited for the first time in 2015 and have returned many times. We had haven’t stayed at Rosewood during our past couple trips to Mexico but have gone here for dinner every trip as we stayed at neighboring resorts. The tuna duo is one of our favorite rolls (we live in Houston with great sushi and always say we miss agave azul!). Short rib was fantastic and so flavorful. Beautiful grounds and incredible service. It doesn’t get any better than the Rosewood!

Joel is an amazing sushi chef. We were at Tao in Vegas this month and Joel’s sushi is way better. Joel, Mikey, Alejandro and the rest of the staff always make our visits perfect. We were at Agave Azul 3 times during this trip. We miss it already!! Rock Shrimp is the best in the world!!

This is an amazing restaurant to have a romantic dinner. The view to the small lagoon is beautiful. The service is top class and the food is amazing! We love our sushi rolls and else appetizers. Since is a Tequila Bar, they have all kinds of tequilas to taste. Little bit pricey but same as all restaurants on the Mayakoba area. Can wait to be back!

Restaurant was extremely dark. Had to use phone flashlights to see food and for grandkids to color. So is not really family-friendly in our opinion. However the staff where very nice in getting the kids coloring books.
For us we got a sushi roll, ceviche, and drinks. Ceviche was very good but sushi roll was fair. It had slight fishy smell which leads me to question the freshness.

Some of the best sushi we’ve ever eaten. Perfect ambiance. Romantic, relaxing and exceptional service. A must if you stay on any of the Mayakoba properties. Make a reservation. It’s small so fills up most nights.

This place has a lovely setting on the canals at the rosewood. Somehow even in August the patio was very comfortable with a light breeze. The staff is wonderful, as are all Rosewood staff, and the food was very good. My children even loved the sushi.
