We enjoyed our dinner here and enjoyed the beautiful view. I had the suckling pig and it was delicious. It was serviced with purées which aren’t my favorite (total preference). My husband had the Ribeye (also serviced with a cold sweet potato purée that seemed out of place, maybe better warm) and enjoyed it as well but would have preferred a filet or different cut of meat. I would have liked some different options on the menu - again, preference. The food was fresh and had beautiful presentation. Service was good. There were only 2 tables and thought the service should have been a tad better based on how many people were in there. If you’re foodies, def check the menu before as most nights this is your only option for dinner unless you want room service.

We just returned from our five day anniversary trip at the Viceroy resort. We ate at La Marea twice. Both times our meals were outstanding. The atmosphere is absolutely gorgeous as it overlooks the pool and out to the beach. The lighting is beautiful, the dishes and glassware are beautiful and it just has a wonderful, romantic atmosphere. Carlos, our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, and gave great service. We enjoyed a few of the appetizers and main courses. Most of them were just a gastronomic delight. The stand outs for us were La Marea lime soup, the short ribs, and the ribeye poc chuc.
We honestly could not wait to go back to this resort and enjoy all the delicious food. You couldn’t ask for a better atmosphere to enjoy dinner than sitting at La Marea.

5 star all the way!!!
Antonio and his team did an incredible job guiding us through wasn’t just dinner, but a legit 5 star adventure & experience. Every single ingredient is there with intention. Each dish is made with love. Each flavor is well thought out.
Cannot recommend how this place wowed both us and our taste buds.
You Will not be disappointed. Savor each morsel as well as the time and the gorgeous setting! We are going back tomorrow & the next night for sure! We are blown away by the viceroy!

I made dinner reservations at La Marea, but I was not a guest of the resort.
I was staying in downtown Playa del Carmen and decided to book a dinner reservation based on the restaurant's ranking on La Liste 2023.
The restaurant is located deep inside the resort grounds. What that means for someone that arrives for dinner is a 10 minute walk, at least, through uneven cobblestone-like walkways without adequate lighting.
We had a lovely gentleman by the name of Antonio who walked us all the way to the restaurant with his flashlight lighting the way and pointing out several interesting points on the grounds like cenotes.
He assured us someone would be walking us back to the entrance when we were ready to leave.
When we finally arrived at La Marea, he attempted to engage the restaurant serve staff to greet us, none of which were eager to do so. After we walked up the stairs, the waitstaff seemed genuinely surprised to have "outside" guests arrive for dinner.
The location of the restaurant is lovely, and the open-air setting adds to the appeal. The one and only cocktail I ordered was okay. It was nothing spectacular although I thought a mezcal based Negroni with cafe de olla would have given me more of a surprise. We tried a couple of appetizers and we shared a main dish of suckling pig which was the best thing I tried all night. I skipped dessert in favor of one more cocktail at the downstairs bar, (which was practically empty). When I asked our waiter if that was possible, he hesitated and eventually answered it was, but I took the hesitance to be the real answer. I opted to skip the cocktail and asked for the check, which prompted a loud "how will you be paying" from our server. The credit card transaction took place on our table, which I felt was completely out of place.
The general manager, Eduardo, approached the table and asked for a review, which I politely declined to give.
EVERYONE in the waitstaff saw us get up from our table and go down the stairs and
NO ONE helped us back to the main entrance. We had to find our own way back.
If you are someone who searches far and wide for an exceptional meal, keep looking.
La Marea is not it.

We ate here twice during our stay. Excellent food and choices with personal yet professional service. Each course is delivered to your table and explained in detail - wonderful and a real treat. Only thing to be aware of is that wine is very expensive!

This 5-star review is for a truly 5-star restaurant and incredible dining experience. We were seeking to have 2 first-class dinners while in the Riviera Maya (the other experience was at Benazuza). We chose La Marea after researching it on Tripadvisor, Google and elsewhere, looking at photos and reading credible reviews.
La Marea did not fail to deliver on a perfect dining experience. The restaurant is located inside the Viceroy Riviera Maya hotel. It was really hard to find, but that made the experience all that more enjoyable. The Viceroy is the definition of a hidden gem. We were received in a palapa in the reception area of this beautiful property. It was night and the the hotel employee accompanied us through lighted pathways through the hotel’s grounds that are covered in lush foliage. The restaurant is located near the water’s edge and sits above the hotel’s lovely pool and overlooking the bar. The open air restaurant is very, very romantic and well-accoutered with comfortable seating, fine flatware and unique pottery.
The menu and wine menu are impressively large, with many Mexican influences. There were so many choices on the regular menu that we could hardly decide what we wanted; they also have a tasting menu, so to have the most diverse dining experience, we chose to have that.
I would like to say what great service we received from our waiter Sergio and all the other wait staff and hotel employees (they really make you feel like a VIP), and I would also like to praise Chef Carlos Zamora’s creative dishes: they all show the incredible quality of Mexican cuisine in the hands of an artist.
Just for fun, we had a coatimundi come into the restaurant from the surrounding trees while we were dining, which was just so amusing to see (I don’t think it was his first time).
If you want to celebrate a special occasion, or just want to celebrate life, please make a reservation and dine here!

This restaurant is incredible! I stayed at the Viceroy for 10 days and ate here every night. It was that good.
I'm always on the lookout for great moles, and this restaurant had four absolutely spectacular mole sauces on the menu that I tried. The pork belly was amazing, as well as the short ribs (incredible sauce) and the chicken with a spectacular dried fruit mole sauce. The scallops in a white mole sauce was also superb!
If you are in the area and want exceptionally gourmet Mexican dishes, come to La Marea at the Viceroy. It's a wonderful dining experience with great food and excellent service! The caramel and banana dessert is to die for!

Open for dinner at The Viceroy, a beautiful open-air space with truly 5-star dining and service including an amuse bouche, cocktails and exemplary locally sourced food prepared to the finest details and flavors. Truly romantic, upscale yet casual i.e. polo shirts and so forth are fine.

My husband and I stayed at the Viceroy for 4 nights and ate at La Marea 2/4 nights. The food and service were a 10/10. The staff are so friendly and take the time to explain the ingredients in the food and preparation. One day the chef came to find me on the beach after hearing that I like mole. That night the kitchen prepared a meal off the menu with mole. Everything was so fresh and delicious - I can’t wait to return!

I went to La Marea twice during my stay. Each night they had a different menu. The first evening we had a melted cheese dish that was divine. The second evening was the steak and seafood night. The steak was perfectly made and melted in your mouth. The staff's service was impeccable. This is the perfect place to have a special occasion or a very romantic dinner.

My husband and I ventured out from the Banyan Tree Mayakoba to celebrate a special anniversary dinner. From the moment we stepped out of our taxi to the arrival of our desserts, we could not have enjoyed a more special, gracious evening. The staff was so lovely and professional and the food was superb. The restaurant is so romantic. We tasted such unique and interesting flavors. The cocktails and wine selections perfectly complimented our meal. We are so happy we visited La Marea!
