We ate at Sotavento a few times during our stay in Mayakoba because we were thrilled with the cuisine, service, and beautiful beach location. The manage Julian did an outstanding job accommodating dietary requirements and preferences. The grilled Salmon and lobster were divine and the avocado/mango gucamole was especially tasty - or as my mom said OTW (out of this world).

The warm host Julien greeted us and was delighted to make us a reservation to celebrate my birthday. Our attentive, kind waiter Humberto was friendly and brought us to the most beautiful spot right on the beach, in front of wonderful live band Astrosonic. Humberto helped make wonderful recommendations. He even modified my childrens' dinners, adding things, so that each was excited for the meal to come. We had the mixed green salad, which features local cactus, grapes and avocados, as well as fresh greens in a delicious honey vinaigrette. For our main dishes, we had the whole sea bass and chicken. Both are excellent and are made on the grill. The chicken is marinated for hours before grilling and served with a delicious coriander sauce. The local Sea Bass is wonderful and simple, served with fresh lemon and a scrumptious chili sauce. For dessert, Humberto brought my daughter back from the beach and coordinated with the band to sing happy birthday with my family to me. We went to this restaurant twice during our visit. We look forward to a time in the future when we can return. The exquisite view right on the ocean, the warm welcoming atmosphere, the delicious cuisine and the amazing music by Astrosonic (gifted vocalists and instrumentalists we were surprised to find at a resort) made this a wonderful experience.

Unbelievable meal- we had the ribeye and porterhouse. Our kids had the salmon and shrimp- we asked for no seasoning on the kids’ meals and it was no problem. The setting is gorgeous and a full moon night no less!! Alberto took amazing care of us❤️ Portions are huge and guaranteed you will not leave hungry!!

We gave this place a chance in August when it was still relatively new. Now, January, we came again. Almost everything about the dinner here was disappointing. Fish was not only boring and simple but bad. The most simple smallest bowl of rice (at 15 USD) didn’t help - And I don’t mind paying the high prices of the Mayakoba restaurant but in this one it’s insulting, nothing about the prices make sense. Wine by the glass is third of the amount anywhere else will pour you. Too much bright light ruins the ‘night at the beach’ atmosphere. Service is not pleasant.
I prefer the barbecue at the Rosewood beach restaurant by far.

This was the best experience we have ever had at a restaurant. We ate here 3 of the 4 nights of our stay because we loved it so much. The food is amazing, but the staff is also incredible. Julien, Alberto, and Gabe specifically helped make our experience unforgettable. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and so one night Chef Gaston and Chef Miguel made us the most outstanding curated meal, and specialized parts for our 14month daughter as well. The whole staff took care of her too and played with her while we dined which warmed our hearts to the fullest. They are thoughtful, professional, first class at everything they do, and the food is truly one of a kind. Don’t forget the amazing local and ambience as well! we will keep coming back here every chance we get. Thank you to the team for making our visit so special xox

The food and service are outstanding. Very easy to get a reservation. The chicken is VERY tasty and the octopus is excellent. Humus is next level, truffle fries are a home-run and the pineapple crumble is a great way to top off the meal. ASK for Alberto. He’s the best, very nice and knows the menu perfectly. He won’t steer you wrong and will tell you what he recommends and whether or not you are ordering too much food. The scenery on the beach is magnificent. The entire team is AMAZING and the best part is they’re grilling it all right there on the beach. If you’re staying at Andaz Mayakoba you must eat here because if you don’t you’re missing out.

My wife and our friends enjoyed Sotavento immensely. Lunch and dinner were both amazing and you can’t get any closer to the water. The shrimp Ceasar salad was a favorite in our group. Amazingly seasoned butterflied shrimp and creamy Ceasar dressing. Dinner had an excellent band available that was willing to take requests and even rocked out some Backstreet Boys. The half chicken dinner was unlike any chicken that I’ve had with crispy edges but tender meat and so many amazing seasonings. My wife ordered the “catch of the day” grouper that was equally impressive. *****

Had an epic view of Jupiter as we ate dinner with our toes in the sand. Our camarero Nieves was so kind to make our anniversary dinner memorable and recommended the perfect drinks to go with our entrees. Definitely the best dinner of our stay at Andaz Mayakoba.

Amazing food with amazing service with a beach front view. What do you need more. Humberto our server was the best! Food was served on time was tasty and fresh. We took 2 starters and a fish for main course. They also have a kids menu and our kids loved their food. Again very recommended.

We've been to the Andaz Mayakoba twice and Sotavento is always a highlight of our time there (we usually go at least 2 of the nights we are there!) The location on the beach is stunning and getting to watch the chefs prepare your food on the open grill and kitchen is such an experience!
The manager Julian is fantastic and it shows in how well functioning the restaurant is! He went above and beyond for us during our dining experience! Our servers during our visits this time were Alberto and Alex. They were both incredibly attentive, gave fantastic recommendations, and provided great service! Couldn't ask for better service!
The food is fresh and delicious, particularly the freshly grilled seafood! The cocktails pair perfect with the food and location. Try to go near sunset if you can, so you can enjoy both the day and night experience!

Amazing service by everyone at the restaurant. Both Ms. Ana and Mr. Daniel treated our family over multiple visits on an very special way making us feel at home. All of us (including our picky eater kids) loved the food and the overall experience of dining so close to the sea. Kudos to Andaz Mayakoba for having such great and dedicated people taking care of the guests!

This restaurant is great for a seafood focused dinner on the beach with excellent service and scenery. The wine list was also lovely. Geronimo, our server, was extremely attentive and pleasant. We would absolutely dine here again.

Outstanding drinks and meal (caprese, mussels, garlic shrimp, and lobster fetticine) at Sotavento on the beach! Humberto was an excellent server, and we really enjoyed having our toes in the sand (was a bit of a surprise that we took our shoes off as we entered the restaurant area) while eating a fantastic meal. The live band was nice with good mellow/laidback music, although louder than we like during dinner (would be good if they put schedule of when there was a live music there, as one member of our party has noise sensitivity). We will definitely be going back next time in Mayakoba.

The night we arrived was our 10th anniversary. My husband had called ahead and asked for the most romantic, special option for dinner that night. It rained that afternoon and when we arrived at 6pm for our reservation the tables were covered, lights were out and no one was there at the host stamd.
We made our way to the nearby restaurant and were told we would be seated there instead due to the weather. We were a bit disappointed but Julian the manager came over, gave us a complimentary bottle of wine and really turned the night around. We ordered off the Sotavento menu and had a nice meal. Julian went above and beyond to help us with dinner arrangements for the rest of our stay and asked us to come again to Sotavento for our final night and he would have a surprise for us. We did come back. The setting was perfect. He had a private cabana with our feet in the sand, tiki torches and a clear view to the ocean. There was a really good live band and the food and drinks were excellent. But what made it a experience to be remembered forever was the care and consideration from the people who made it happen. Nieves our server did an excellent job catering to our every need. And Julian arranged for a private serenade at the end of the night by the singer of the band that was so sweet and romantic. We had a dance on the beach to "I can't help falling in love". TRULY MAGICAL! We can't wait to come back...

Delicious food and excellent service! We loved sitting on the beach and seeing the sunset. We had Roberto as our server and he was always attentive and friendly! On Friday night they had live music and a family style set grill menu which was really fun! We got to try several of the seafood and grilled meat options. The seabass, chicken, and picaña were our favorites! Make a reservation in advance (even just the day before depending on how busy or not busy the resort is) to eat there.
