About
Kayak Kafe beach bar is located on the oceanfront with a beautiful view of the passing boats. The beach bar restaurant is a great place to start your day with a hearty breakfast. There isn’t a better place for home cooked food with a ocean view. Whether you are looking for something light to eat after a morning walk along the beach, watch the boats go by during lunch, or sip on a cocktail and watch the sunset. Since the Ferry dock has moved to Tyrell Bay, folks will have to catch a No. 10 bus to the main town of Hillsborough. When alighting from the bus, as you walk to the road, you will see us, on the main street, almost opposite Ade's Dream Supermarket. In the evening we serve Filipino food from 5 - 9:30 pm. Dishes to savour indulge in our Chicken Chow Mein, where tender chicken and fresh noodles come together in a symphony of flavours. Our Chick Stir Fry is a masterpiece of texture and taste, while our Steam Buns are a soft, delightful treat filled with savoury goodness

If you want really delicious food and a gorgeous view from any table, you must visit Kayak Kafé. The menu is diverse and it's open 7 days a week. There's a nice selection of alcohol too. I had breakfast and lunch several times during my Carriacou stay. And...they have good coffee - maybe the only real coffee on the island? The owner, Sean, has an interesting story and runs Kayak Kafe with care. The waitresses and cooks - special shout out to Ms. Lydia - are part of the cafe's beauty, and you will experience all the charm that Carriacou has to offer here. A local gem indeed!

I can't say enough about Sally and her cafe. Our group stays for a week on Carriacou. She opened early and opened on 2 days she is normally closed to be sure our dive group had breakfast. Lunches and smoothies after diving were spectacular! To top it off, on the last night we were on island she cooked a lionfish dinner (we had speared them on our dives) with all the trimmings for us. She isn't normally open for dinner, just did this special for us. What a wonderful lady and wonderful restaurant. Please stop in for a meal, you won't be disappointed!

The place ticks all the Boxes; Good food, service, location, friendly, clean and all for a reasonable price
We have both gone Vegan and first trip to Carribean as such, although third time here in Carriacou, always visited the Kayak. Love the location in town, but once inside looking out onto the sandy bay, watching the boats, pelicans and crabs scuttle around whilst eating
We both had Vegi Burgers on second trip there, which were as good as it gets, great taste. First time I had Falafel and Cheryl had the Calaloo soup, the soup was tasty, the Falafel came with a really extremely nice salad and chutneys, tasted great, only negative was a little hard.
Very hard to find Vegi and Good Vegan food, so this was a bonus for us, and a must visit on the Island

I went here in 2018 and it was great, however I returned recently to a very disappointing visit.
The staff were still as friendly which is the only positive I can draw.
Me and my wife arrived about 11am for a late breakfast and ordered 2 drinks and 2 omelettes. The drinks arrived immediately however the food took over 50 minutes to arrive.
If a venue is busy I can understand delays but given the time and the fact that there was only 1 other couple in there this really wasn't good.
Plus when the food arrived, they were undercooked with sloppy egg inside and barely warm.

I am so sorry that you did not have a good return visit. I actually left the business in May znc zm nos in the process of closing down Kayak Kafe on Trip Advisor for the new Owner to open his own site. Again so sorry.

We walked 1.5 km down from our stay at Grandview Hotel arriving at 11:30, for one of the tables by the sea. A pleasant young waitress brought our menus, took our drink and meal order. We used the clean restroom returning to 2 smoothies(peanut butter and banana & coconut chocolate and banana) then enjoyed watching all the sea birds until our hot meals arrived. Delicious Mahi Mahi with salad and coleslaw (one with rice and the other with fries) garnished with ketchup and Italian salad dressing. The good food and the special setting made the bill( $44 US-Cash only) seem reasonable.
Many shared the same view noting the full tables on our departure before we started back up the hill to our quiet hotel.

This has got to be the most unassuming, hidden and easy-to-miss gem of Carriacou. Sally, the South African expat who owns this wonderful cafe, bakes her own bread, has spices and flavorings not seen elsewhere, makes her own jam, etc, She knows her food and has a great culinary talent. She can find vegetables on the island that everybody else says is unavailable. She even went to the trouble of opening up her restaurant in the evening to prepare a special meal for us. Never had lion fish and barracuda before but it was exquisite as well as her Carriacou Lime Pie. We ate there 3 times in 2 days ! Only decent place in "downtown" Carriacou. (Normally not open in the evening.) It's easy to miss on Main street but it's opposite Ade's Dream Guest House.

Kayak Beach Bar Restaurant is a great place to start your day with a hearty breakfast. There isn’t a better place for home cooking with a ocean view…
I would recommend Kayak Beach to everyone staying, sailing or visiting Carriacou to stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
The owner Sally and here staff will make sure all your needs are met. I will definitely be back!!
Thank you Sally for all your help!

I have enjoyed Kayak for over 10 years. Occasional serving hiccups but nothing major. However this time my visit was spoiled both by service and attitude. Coffee was cold, I had to ask for it to be heated up. Breakfast sausages were rancid. When I told staff, no offer was made to substitute alternative. I was also CHARGED for them! When the bill came, what should have been a $70 dollar bill was $106.60! Really??? Over 50% mark up. When I told the owner, the excuse was that they were using a calculator. Staff have been there many years, don't they know the prices yet? I was not offered any apology at any time by the owner, just excuses, and surly attitude from staff. What a sad state of affairs.

I am very sorry you had the bad experience with your breakfast, I do remember the sausages you commented on and left, they were also a different brand to what we have been used to using. Yes we should have taken them off the bill, for this I do apologise and will refund you or Rosemary, or we can give you a free breakfast when you come back. Just to let you know also that I have only been open for 8 years this January.

The Kayak Kafe is one of our favourite spots to enjoy a meal (or 2 or 3) when we are in Hillsborough.
The staff is welcoming, the food freshly prepared and locally sourced when possible including freshly baked bread, bakes, roti wraps and desserts.
My favourite it the Saltfish & Bake; husband enjoys the full English Breakfast (minus the beans add hash browns); the sorrel, soursop and mango juices are so good; Millionaire Shortbread with Grenada chocolate, Passionfruit Pudding and Carriacou Lime Pie are good choices for dessert; Diver Burger, Lambi Chowder are good choices for lunch or a light dinner.
Thank you for the warm welcome, good food and great view!

Ate here twice during our visit to Carriacou. Food was delicious, drinks are well prepared and ice cold, super clean and very cute outdoor seating.... One huge problem - they have a steady stream of raw sewage running out from under their deck into the Ocean. The stench almost made me vomit not to mention the huge brown/black pool of stuff in the ocean surf. Can’t do that again.

So sorry, you must have been here when the rains came. What happens is it is an open drain from further up the town which when we get rain it comes down from the hills. It is not sewage, problem is the gas station which I have complained about many times, the black/brown stuff is actually the oil/diesel/petrol from the gas station. Usually we go out with a bottle of bleach and that tends to kill the pew, this only happens once or twice a year. Again, so sorry you had to endure that and most of the time we are pong free.

Full disclosure, I am a major fan of this restaurant but had to make a point of commenting on the Coconut Lambi chowder I had last evening. It was unbelievable, if you are a connoisseur of all things lambi, as I openly admit I am, put this on your list. I started with her lambi fritters and closed with this ambrosias, her Coconut Lambi chowder. I don’t know how I missed it on previous visits, but trust me, it’s worth sampling, as is everything on their extensive menu.

Kayak Kafe is my 'go to' place in Hillsborough.
The menu has great vegetarian and vegan options. The vegetarian Roti is the best I have tried anywhere. The Spanish omelette and Callaloo soup are also both excellent.
The place itself is cute and breezy, offering a lovely sea view and respite from the hustle and bustle of town. Definitely the best place to eat in Hillsborough.

What lovely meals we have had in the Kayak Kafe in Hillsborough, Carriacou! Good menu with a wide range of food - the regular sandwiches etc but also Chinese / Philippino dishes. Particularly recommend the chicken chow mein. Peter looked after us really well, what a nice guy. And Shaun, the owner, was so welcoming. Amazing sunset views as well. Thanks to all the team - we will be back!

Great spot for breakfast with a wonderful view right beside the sea. I had medium breakfast with hash brown, which was home made and very tasty. My husband had the omelette which was also very nice. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Mouth-watering lunch in the open-air dining area. View to die for. Food was better than par. Drinks, particularly the punch is a must. The owner is a friendly UK with local roots, charming and welcoming.
