The setting is great, the ambience good too. The service was really poor and I felt for some of the young servers, they just looked lost. One table had the wrong food, we had cold food delivered. Tried talking to the head of service after...a 2nd failed attempt to bring us hot food (that wasn't), but a bizarre (and somewhat irrational response)! All-in-all, as much as I'd like to see the place on a good day, I won't be jumping to go back. They just didn't have a good day at the office and didn't know what to do if any issues. Can't say whether chef having a bad day, service team having a bad day, or all of the above. Wasn't even saved by the food on our visit. Never been before, plenty of other places in the area to try!More

Lovely setting for lunch, nice outside area, good drinks menu & well prepared G&T’s. Food menu was a bit limited that day but main courses and desserts enjoyed by whole table. Friendly & attentive service from Giovanni!

Booked a table for 4. Good, busy atmosphere inside. Food really fresh, nicely cooked and well presented, and really friendly, efficient service (contrary to some of the reviews on here). Battered fish and steak were excellent. Good range of local beers and ales. Slightly higher...prices than some other pubs nearby but don't mind paying a bit more for quality. Will definitely visit again.More

We visited here for a drink in the afternoon with a view to booking a table for a meal the following evening. Upon entering the place the staff were all stood together and it was all very disorganized and quite uncomfortable for us. Anyway we...asked if we could have a table for a drink and we were quite abruptly told yes but only in the garden, not inside even though all the tables were unoccupied. I then asked about availability for a table the following evening and again in an abrupt manner we were told no, without even asking a time or checking the latest availability. We felt as though we weren't welcome and left without having a drink. I checked on the online booking system and tables were available at 17.45 which would have been perfect for us. Terrible experience with awful staff This is now the Wild Hare Hotel.More

Friendly and helpful staff, if a tad disorganised, nice environment, confusing parking rules but what lets it down is the steep prices.

The food was very good but the service was poor and we were charged for another tables drinks - we were sat outside - I did not read the bill until we got back to our hotel and then contacted the restaurant and had to...send pictures of the bill to them to prove it. I di get my money back and yes I should have checked my bill before leaving but I had not go my glasses with me so could not. i asked for a glass of water which I never received - it is a shame as we went in May 2021 and it was superb service and staff were in May but staff were different in July and not as good.More

Very poor experience all round. My friend arrived 10 minutes ahead of me and was told he wouldn't be served a drink until I arrived, so he was left sitting at a table absolutely fuming! Some bizarre rule about not serving men on their own,...at least that's what he was told. When it came to ordering our 2nd round of drinks it took a good 20 to 25 minutes to get served. We had the distinct impression we were being ignored rather than overlooked. Will not be visiting this establishment again.More

We waited patiently in a queue to order for the garden. Just as it was our turn to order, the 2 staff went behind the bar inside and deliberately ignored us while they talked amongst themselves. We won't be revisiting!

We recently visited The Wild Hare whilst on Holiday in Tintern. We had tried to book for an evening but could not get in. We managed to visit one Monday lunch time. We were seated outside in the beautiful garden. The pub, the grounds and...the rooms all looked beautiful and were very clean and well kept. The restaurant was not very busy but we did have to wait a long time to order and for our meals to arrive. I believe that they were trying out a new system and an influx of customers made it difficult. Staff seemed pretty flustered and no apologies were made about the wait. Having said that, it was a beautiful day and we were on holiday so we didn't mind too much. The menu was good, with vegan options for me clearly marked. They also had a vegan special on too. The food when it did arrive was very nice. I had the butternut squash curry and a side of tandorri spiced leeks. The leeks were the star of the show - delicious. My friend had the plant based burger which she said was very good. She also had truffle fries which were luke warm but still very good. The price of the food is more expensive than other places in the village. Whilst normally I would say that it was justified due to the beautiful setting, the wait did let it down slightly, hence the 4 star review. That being said, I would return as the food was very nice.More
