Very quiet in Owaka, late April and we didn't know what to expect. But we had received a recommendation for this place and were glad we gave it a try. Warm welcome. We were told when we arrived that there would be a wait as several dinners were being prepared. In fact we quickly had a couple of beers on... More

We had two dinners at the Lumberjack in a recent visit to the Catlins. Both were delicious. Fresh ingredients and beautifully cooked. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Casual relaxed atmosphere. Will go again should we be in the area.

During our stay in Osaka we had 2 dinners here and enjoyed each one very much. It's a popular place, especial with some tour groups, so it was quite full both times we were there. The service was good and so was the food.

We were greeted so warmly by the waitress who on seeing my Taranaki t shirt was so excited. Its where she is from also. The delicious meal was served very quickly despite the restaurant having a few guests. The walls had very interesting historical photos of Owaka.

This restaurant was a total surprise to find in such a small town where normally one finds a fish & chip shop and a Chinese. Here there was a lovely decor of timber furniture and a couple of big lumberjack saws above the fireplace. We had not booked on a Saturday night but we did not have to wait long... More

Great food and superb service. Great decor, shame it was too warm for the huge fire to be lit, would like to have seen that! Menu not as in the sample menu in motel folder but still a good variety for evening dining. Mains ranged fro $27 to $32 dollars so sort of pricey but well worth it!! The butterfly... More

Being a small town we were limited as to where to eat. Either the Speights pub or the Lumber Jack cafe. We hadn't booked for dinner on the day we visited but we were lucky as they had a couple of free tables when we walked in, however it did fill up. Food was tasty & portion size was good.... More

We were a group of 5 who ate at Lumber Jack and had a mixed experience. Two of us ordered the pasta of the day (pumpkin ravioli) which tasted like it had come straight out of a tin and was very disappointing for $16. The other members of our group had fish and steak, which seemed much better - so... More

Was great to have a meal that did not involve deep fried. Each meal comes with seasonal vegetables or a salad plus creamy potato gratin. I had steak with mushroom sauce which was cooked perfectly medium rear. I also had hot boysenberries with vanilla ice cream. Very reasonably priced.

We were first to arrive and waitress was pleasant even tho she forgot our water glasses and my beer. Ordered the chicken breast with plum sauce and sliced potatoes and salad. Pudding was cheese cake chocolate and raspberry with cream and ice cream. Speights beer on the side.
