Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great place to eat lunch or dinner, excellent food choices. Lively bar area. Lots of beers on tap. Friendly staff.

We had a very nice breakfast here. Food was fresh and well prepared. Price was more than reasonable. The view and atmosphere of the restaurant was absolutely amazing. Our server was Maribe and she was fantastic, very prompt and accommodating. This will be our first...stop on our next trip to Denali.More

We had dinner here one night on our Alaska trip. Its definitely not a five star restaurant, nor do I think they want to be. They serve alcoholic beverages. Their food was good and large portions. We were all too full to try the dessert....There was a young man playing the guitar and singing….nice touch.More

Food was fine. Tasted good and lots of options. You don’t pay upfront so we had a ‘server’. We waited longer for her to give us the check than it took to eat. Then had to chase her down for change. Unacceptable for the cost...of the buffet.More

We had one of your 2 dinners here. Honestly, I was a little taken back. We were on an excursion and did not get back to 8:30pm, we could only order dinner off the normally menu until 9pm, there also was only bar service so...you had to sit at the bar to get your food. Once we received our food we asked if we could sit at a table just off the bar because I could not handle the way the employees talked and a set of very rude guest. We also had to agree to bring our dishes back to the bar. Which we were fine with. The staff every second word was either the f word or something vulgar. I swear like a sailor as well. But this was just disgusting and over the top. We were made fun of for not ordering alcohol. What if we were in AA? Very unprofessional. This hotel looked more classy than the way the employees acted. This is also owned by Holland American who normally has extremely amazing staff and high standards. My spouse ordered the burger and we both agreed that it is the best burger we had ever had. I actually wanted to come back for it the next night but I just could not put up with the staff again. They also had fried pickles with no batter. Just incredible. I had the salmon pasta which was really tasty. Really this place's food deserves a 5 star but the staff is a 1 Star. Really to bad.More

Karstens Breakfast buffet is good for travel food, but the serving set up is defeatist if you are left handed. It is served from only the righty side, with right handled serving bowls. A lefty has to walk backwards and reach across constantly the front...your body to serve yourself. This could be alleviated by having a two sided serving line. I suggested this to a supervisor and was told they were worried about the carpet. Good food and great if you are a righty.More

Excellent food and convenient location. Servers were a mixture of first timer seasonal workers and veterans, but the food was well prepared, the portions appropriate, and prices reasonable. Clearly the best dining experience we had while in Denali.

We stayed at the McKinley Chalet Resort. One of the few eating opportunities in easy walking distance was the Karstens Public House. I ate there several times, both for breakfast (buffet) and dinner. I had their fish and chips, hand dipped cod, for one of...the meals. Not bad. Since there are limited eating facilities, at the resort, they have you. Get reservations for a table, particularly if there are a large number in your group.More

We had a very early visit for the breakfast buffet on our way out of Denali and they didn't disappoint. Great food and great coffee before leaving Denali and heading back towards Anchorage.

This was a huge disappointment. Great atmosphere, but service was poor. We would have hung out here for a while, but they were out of the 2 beers my husband wanted to try (both brewed in Alaska, so..?) They made my drink incorrectly (sangria was...listed to have several types of fruit in it, but it didn't- and I know they had it because they put it in my daughter's lemonade). The menu we saw online included caribou burgers and some other things that were not offered. We sat for about 30 minutes before we ordered food, and we got our food before we got our drinks :/ Not sure if this was a server issue or a staffing issue or what, but we were not impressed.More

Overpriced buffet. You are better off going up the hill to the resort's Canyon Steakhouse for breakfast. Or...if you just want coffee, you can buy it from Karsten's market which is just inside the door you walk in. If you buy coffee to walk with...back to your room, wear gloves - very hot!More

Had a wonderful meal here. I had a shrimp/pasta dish and my husband had fish-n-chips. Food ware excellent. Service was prompt and very helpful. One side of the restaurant is open-air in the summer, bringing in pleasant breezes and music from the square.

We had a pretty mediocre experience, mostly due to the service. We ordered two appetizers and not only did they forget one they brought the apps out with our dinner. So we were starving by the time our food came out and didn’t really want...the appetizers once we had our meals. The atmosphere was cool, but there were a ton of tables directly in the very hot sun inside and we watched multiple people ask to be re-seated. The outdoor patio is nice, but on the day we went it was extremely windy so that wasn’t an option. The food was ok - nothing so memorable that I would recommend itMore

The food was over cooked and cold ( or stale) and tasted of very little. The staff knew it was bad but didn’t have anything to say. Better to eat off site away from the resort

Although they have an extensive menu, when I asked a question about one dish, if it had dairy in it, the waitress came back from the kitchen and told me that everything on their menu has dairy in it. When I asked if she could...help recommend something that they could provide that didn't have dairy, she couldn't help me at all. She also proceeded to inform me that mayonnaise has dairy in it because it is creamy. She told me that none of their salad dressings were dairy-free. It was strange - it was as if she really did not want to serve or help me at all. As if she was somehow offended that I had asked about dairy-free options. I had plain lettuce for dinner.More
