Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Delicious cakes and really nice tea and coffee. Met a friend there who I hadn't seen in years, and in addition to the lovely main space, they also have private rooms upstairs where it's a bit quieter. Really good service and a nice overall experience.

Another TripAdvisor find - I don’t think I’ve been to a bakery / patisserie anywhere quite like this. Gokan have this down to an art form, everything they make looks beautiful and the staff are incredibly polite. We ate upstairs - a little formal and...in some respects perhaps dated but a pleasant experience all the same, the savoury omelette from the somewhat limited menu was actually very good. The only thing I was unsure about was that the staff seemed to have to be so subordinate they looked like they were walking on eggshells a little, especially when the boss in the suit spoke to them. Perhaps also they get a lot of very demanding clientele which forces them to be that way. Not a criticism of the staff, they are wonderful - I just worry they are managed very tightly and under a lot of discipline that it may not be a fun place to work though I did see a couple of smiles.More

There desserts were pretty. The decoration was also pretty with a nice feeling of Europe. My orders were a japanese peach in jelly and red tea "Benifuuki". Both were nice. The jelly came with a fresh japanese peach inside and a little scoop of peach...sorbet. The taste was not so sweet so if you love you dessert sweet, you might not like it but for me the taste was perfect. The tea was refreshing and that's all I know lol Anyway, good place for having your afternoon tea.More

So I think I have to write a public review to let people know. People who work here it's not nice.More

We found this restaurant from one of the travel books. Location. Extremely convenience since it is just 1-2 minutes from kitahama subway station. If you think it is quite difficult for you to roam around to find this restaurant, you can also find its kiosk...inside the food floor of Takashimaya shopping mall in Namba. They sell the same type of cakes, without great service, of course. Service. Extremely good service, even within Japan. The servers were very eager to help. You just have to ask to get help from any of them. Their ability to communicate in English may be limited, but you can try and most of the time they will understand. Food. Since this is the dessert restaurant, mainly serve cake, do not expect anything more. Just the variety of their cakes will blow you away. Plus the not-too-sweet taste will make you ask for more. Interior. Someone mentioned outdated decoration in some previous review. I, on the contrary, think this is classic. It gives you the retro and quiet atmosphere where you can enjoy a good cup of tea with some cakes in the middle of the busy city of Osaka. Just give it a try and you will not regret.More

The service was amazing we were helped by at least 3 people. The dessert was very good but in Japan standards I would say its average. The interior looked really really dated, certainly below average... Wouldn't go back.

Gokan cake shop is a 2 minute walk from Kitahama Station Exit 6, and boasts an array of freshly baked cakes/bread. The cakes are so all so pretty it was difficult for us to choose. We went there 3 times during our 8-day stay in...Osaka. I would recommend the melon cake as melon is in season now and it's so sweet. We also bought assorted sweets/cakes as souvenirs for our family and friends at the bakery.More

Upstairs in the Gokan Patisserie de Samourai there are elegant tea rooms where you can relax and choose wonderful desserts from a wide selection presented to you on a huge platter. Our desserts came with large, individual pots of delicious coffee and jugs of coffee...cream. Most of the desserts are Western style with one or two Japanese style. Prices are very reasonable. Downstairs, the shop has a huge selection of both Western and Japanese pastries to take home if you want to sample some more treats.More

The shop is located in a business and office area, just a few minutes walk from Exit 2 of Kitahama subway station. Contrary to outside, the shop's atmosphere is fabulous : great smell of newly baked bakery, plenty choices of bread and dessert, and soft...music. I tried their breakfast set and some desserts which were so awesome that I went their twice. Going up to 2nd floor for eating in is suggested, cozy and warm atmosphere.More

When I saw the picture of Japanese dessert on poster at Japanese restaurant or even I watched Japanese cartoon. I wished I had a chance to try this. Therefore, when I was in Osaka- where was famous for dessert, I could not miss this chance....I loved red bean, I loved matcha, I loved mochi. I loved them all. I loved their combination. They was softly sweet and very gorgeous. I will be back again and again.More

Hi, this question was sent to me because I've recently eaten at Gokan. I can't answer specifically but they have a large variety of Western desserts to eat in - I would expect a lot of those do not have walnuts. Most... More
