On a short trip through the villages of Abruzzo, we had lunch in this restaurant attracted by the good reviews.
The place is very small (max 15-20 seats) and bare and does not have parking. You can get there by going up a few flights of stairs from the main road or from inside the Borgo di Calascio (but always on foot).
The cuisine is truly home-made with typical dishes with authentic flavours.
The service was fast, kind and accurate. The house wine is also good.
The prices charged are in line with those of other restaurants in the area, although perhaps they have been adjusted a little too high for the location.
However, if you want to eat well it is certainly a place to recommend.

Finding yourself among the most beautiful mountains of Abruzzo and perceiving the scent of your home cooking. The flavours, at Maria's, are genuine, fresh, without much manipulation and, precisely for this reason, they manage to enhance the goodness. Platters of cold cuts as they were only once made and cheeses with honey and expertly seasoned vegetables precede ravioli filled with good ricotta with the unmistakable flavor of freshness or lentils with egg quadrucci and roast lamb with new potatoes. All contained in an excellent price and in the beauty of the place in the shade of a century-old vine. Just one quick piece of advice is to improve the directions to the property.

Restaurant really small (about 20 seats) but really good. Eaten ravioli with tomato sauce (very tasty filling) and my husband tagliolini with tomato sauce. For second course we asked for starter of cold cuts and cheeses with grilled vegetables (it would be better not to burn them so much) and lentil soup (fabulous). The white wine from home is really good .We also took coffee and break 43 euros. Very honest prices and genuine food

We stayed over the weekend in Calascio, they recommended us to have dinner at this restaurant.
We had dinner on the first evening and having found typical local food of excellent quality, we decided to return the next day.
The ravioli and mixed meat platter are recommended
The owner is friendly and genuine in communicating with guests.
We hope it retains this line of pure neorealist trattoria

All very very good, the products feel like they are of quality!
Tried starter with cured meats and cheeses and mixed roast with salad! A truly pleasant discovery. If we return to Calascio we will definitely return! Rocca di Calascio an enchanted place!

We have been to Calascio twice since 2014 and have eaten here several times. It is hard to overstate how good the food is. It is simply prepared but it is always excellent, whether the heavenly light ravioli filled with local ricotta or the succulent lamb chops. You cannot go wrong eating here. You are always welcomed with a big smile. And the cost for what you get is stunningly low, especially when compared to the larger cities. If you don't speak Italian, learn enough to make a reservation by phone. The dining room is small (4 tables) and they are not always open. But you will be well rewarded for your patience in getting a seat.

During recent weekend, we went for trip to Abruzzo region. Closer to Calascio on the way to " Rocca Calascio" we stopped at this picturesque ristorante. We had wine from the region - Montepulciano. For starters we had lentils soup and bread w sausage. Main plate we tasted fettuccine w mushrooms and truffles and mixed barbeque
All was delicious. Finally , Pannacotta for dessert.

As a foodie, my experience @ Maria's place was AMAZING.
If your aim is to find a comfy and cozy place where you can have an homemade Special and perfect meal, your next problem is just to find the tiny door.
Nothing exotic, just go there for taste their ravioli and go back home happy and fulfilled of this familiar environment where the ricotta cheese is produced in the morning and the pasta is handmade in the exact moment.
I'll return there all time I'll be in that part of the Gran Sasso Mountain

Maria's is a tiny restaurant where you can eat typlically local food. The menu is absolutely limited, but Maria makes everything her self and the quality is excellent. Very cheap, good avlue for money

You must call ahead for a reservation at Ristorante da Maria. There are only four tables, and the waitress/hostess is now Maria's daughter. Locals in the area have enjoyed the delicious ravioli for two generations. Lentils are special in the area, so we had a lentil soup as our antipasto. Then came a heaping plate of ravioli. We then had delicious grilled lamb. The experience was like eating in someone's home!

We stayed for dinner at this restaurant and felt at home. Intimate atmosphere, simple and tasty dishes, the typical abundance of dinner at grandmother’s house, extreme kindness of the owner.
