The hotel is truly grand, from the history to the imperial decor. However, the food at the afternoon buffet is not a positive experience. It’s crowded with long lines, just to pick up ordinary food. Sashimi line offered tendon-y carp or smoked shark while the...sushi line offered masago or cooked shrimp. Hot food line offered greasy vegetables, oily salmon rinds, some dim sum, chewy braised short ribs, some buns, etc. Plates are small as are the cups, so multiple trips to the lines are necessary- which makes chatting with family challenging. Cost was around $23 USD. There’s so much good inexpensive food in Taipei, that our dollars and calories would surely have been better expended elsewhere .More

Inside the Grand Hotel in Taipei in front of the Golden Dragon Restaurant is a beautiful bronze dragon fountain spurting water from its mouth. While we did not eat here, I wanted to comment on this beautiful display. The initially was made as a front-gate...decoration for the the previous Shinto temple. The dragon is gilded with 24K gold and is a wonderful addition to the Grand Hotel. The dragon spits water from its mouth and notice that it only has three claws instead of the usual four.More

I tried the "Afternoon Tea" at the Grand Garden Restaurant and was dismayed to find that it did not resemble an "English Afternoon Tea" as advertised on the Grand Hotel website. It was more a mediocre Asian style buffet. The only item that resembled afternoon...tea was cute, tiny, but also mediocre, desserts. I did not see, and I was not offered tea, scones or savories. The food is all self-served, buffet style. I would rate between two and three stars for the food, but advertising as English tea cinched in. I would never have made a special trip and wasted time wating around for the tea time to start if I had realized it was just like any other mediocre buffet in a hotel restaurant in Asia (and honestly, those have all been better). If you just want an all you can eat buffet, this might be worth a try. If you love a true English tea, please keep looking.More

We had midnight snack there. I had sandwich and my husband had noodles. We were both pleased. Surprisingly good!

I was served a multi-course banquet as part of private dining. I do not doubt that the food was well-prepared, but it simply wasn't the palate or flavor profile I was seeking or particularly wanted. The abalone was better than that which I had had...in Queens, NYC. The stewed pork rib was probably my favorite. Tender and flavorful. Great facility, however. Looks amazing both inside and out.More

It is a very comfortable restaurant inside the five stars hotel. Everyone would love to dine there. The foods are mostly in average. Some might exceed your expectations. The restaurant offers various of foods, really large number of choices. However, there are insects flying around...the foods and some dishes might not well covered. I am worrying the food might get polluted. Anyway, the dinner buffet cost about $1100NTD for weekdays (approximately $35 USD). That's absolutely deserve a visit.More

I was very excited to visit the Grand Hotel, and it was worth the visit. But the afternoon tea at the Grand Garden was nothing to get excited about. It was nothing like a traditional "tea." Basically a buffet with a lot of average food.

Come to look at the hotel and drop by the restaurant for a meal. Food isn't bad, just what you would find in any average Chinese restaurant. Restaurant has a contemporary Chinese feel- sophisticated and not too stuffy. Worth a visit but not a detour.
